The district referred to as Fourways (which is a collection of suburbs, including the traditional suburb of Fourways) is the fastest-developing commercial and residential hub in northern Sandton, north of Johannesburg, South Africa. The main access routes to Fourways are off the N1 at R511 William Nicol Drive, or alternatively along R564 Witkoppen Road. It is located mostly in Region E of the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality. It is roughly as far as one can go in the city before metropolitan Johannesburg dissolves into rolling hills, gamefarms and the capital Pretoria, 55 kilometres to the northeast. Hartebeespoort Dam and the Magaliesburg Mountains lie half an hour to the north-west. It is bordered by Bryanston to the east and south and Randburg to the west.

Due recommandation of our host we visited Liliesleaf Farm on our last day of our 2nd roundtrip through SA. The premisis is well maintained and the exhibit is very interesting. A short movie tells you the story & history of the farm. After visiting we learned more about SA history again. Things we did not know before or were not aware they ever happened. Pitty time went too short, we had to leave for the airport.

This tragic museum, opened in 2002, honors the Sowetan schoolchildren slain in a police massacre in 1976.
Students protested about having to be taught in Afrikaans. Police thought shooting 600+ school kids was an appropriate response when they felt threatened. Madness.
It was not busy, but very sobering. You owe it to those kids to visit, if its only for a few minutes.

Previously know as the Johannesburg Civic Theater, this is a group of 4 Theaters situated in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. This theater stages both Broadway musicals and local productions. The main pedestrian entrance is at 163 Civic Boulevard, opposite the Metro Centre offices.
I had the good fortune of seeing "King Kong, the Musical" in the Nelson Mandela Theater. It's the only theater in the world named after N.M. The revival of South Africa's first black musical from the 1959's was quite enjoyable. The acting and singing was the very best of South African talent. (The character "King Kong" was portrayed by the singer and dancer Andile Gumbe, who played "Simba" in the Broadway show of the Lion King). My orchestra seat was only US $24! Acoustics, stage setting, and audience Seating was great. The artistic energy of the performers left a smile on your face.

Was here for the Jewellex Jewelry Show 2017. The show was great. I had a good time. Overall facility a little outdated. But a good place to held a convention.

Reliable Shuttles and Transfers is a Johannesburg based private shuttle service that sees our drivers take you safely to and from your destination of choice. We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With our competitive pricing, friendly service and high regard for your safety we can guarantee your satisfaction.
We just recently used Reliable Shuttles from Bakubang, Pilansberg to Johannesburg. To our surprise Jack and Glynn arrived to transport us in person and our journey could not have been better! So much so, that we booked a follow up ride from JHB to the airport for our trip home to Canada. We had a fabulous journey, the price was right, and to add to the fun, Jack and I reminisced about the good old 70's. A great couple who made us feel completely safe and secure throughout our journeys. Jack even went the extra mile by taking us through my old neighbourhood so that my Canadian family could get a glimpse of where I was raised. Kudos, kudos, kudos to Reliable... we highly recommend their services!!

The 1976 photograph of slain thirteen-year old Hector Pieterson, carried by a friend while his grieving sister runs alongside, is a chilling reminder that South African was changed thereafter.
Paying tribute to the victims of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, and particularly to 14-year old Hector Pieterson, who became the international symbol of Apartheid oppression and youth resistance, this memorial is a powerful indictment of man's inexcusable cruelty.
The memorial itself is a paved area with benches for reflection, an inscribed stone and simple water, and small granite blocks in the museum courtyard that pay tribute to the 350 children who died during this violent time. Simple, but powerful.

(Open by appointment only.) The stories that lived (and still live) within the walls of the Lindfield Victorian House Museum tell a tale of Johannesburg during an era that, more than any other, shaped urban Johannesburg as we know it today. A tale of the day-to-day family life and fashion trends, masters and servants, elegance, high culture, high teas, social etiquette and intellectual achievements. The spirit of this amazing era lives on in the museum and visitors not only learn its cultural history, but also experience the ambiance of a bygone world.
When gold was discovered in Johannesburg, people from all over Europe came here to try and find their fortune. The wives, homesick for their countries of birth, recreated their cultures in their homes. Katherine, the host, dressed as a chambermaid, has a wealth of knowledge and treasures from the Victorian age - late 1800's, which blows the mind. What a truly remarkable experience! Every surface, every part of the house has an historical object to amaze and educate you. Authentically furnished and decorated rooms give you insight into the way people used to live, and the nursery/playroom is a creepy delight, with dolls and toys and a mind boggling dolls house with miniature... everything (!) from the era. Wow! Katherine has lived in the house for 50 years and has no help due to the fragility of all the treasures, hence the dust, but it adds to the character of the place. She worries about what would happen to this heritage site when she is too old to care for it and we truly hope some organization will identify it as worthy of a trust to preserve it for future generations. It needs to remain a museum, as it gives a rare insight into a part of history we don't know much about these days. Step into a forgotten and fascinating era. A worthwhile visit!

The Nelson Mandela square is adjacent to the Sandton Mall and has restaurants on its three sides with the fourth providing entrance to the mall and featuring the imposing bronze statue of Nelson Mandela and some water Fountains. A nice hangout as you have ample dine choices. I like to visit when I can. Come thinking of it is one of the safest places in Johannesburg to be, in an otherwise unsafe city.
