A stunning setting amongst mature Gardens around a delightful old building. Promptly seated and given menus and water, but did wait a while for table service. Once that got underway there was no undue delay in getting drinks and meals, and the staff were friendly and helpful. A great place to while away an hour or so and sample the delights on offer. Recommended.

We are the closest winery/restaurant to the popular Richmond town center just a 5 mins away. Our our food is fresh and vibrant, changing with the seasons and showcasing local flavours. We use only free range meats & sustainable seafoods & support local growers and producers. The Nelson region has some of the best seafood, vegetables, cheese makers and olive oils in the country. We cater to everybody with gluten free, dairy free, vegan & healthy options available. All of our menus are expertly matched with Waimea Estates award winning wine range for the ultimate taste sensations!
Lovely outdoor area but with unrealised potential.
The greeting and following service could not be faulted
(And this from one who frequently complains about lack of staff training & service!).
The meal (Pork Belly with apple and celery slaw) was nicely presented and
yummy. Cutlery was spotless and a decent size napkin was provided.
All in all, a very pleasant experience.

Situated in the heart of Richmond, Nelson, The Stables Restaurant & Tavern is located in an historic brick building with a close connection to the early days of Nelson. We pride ourselves on being your relaxed, friendly 'local' restaurant and tavern so why not call in for a meal or to enjoy a relaxing drink with family and friends. We'd love to see you!
There is nothing special about this restaurant and tavern in the heart of Richmond. It is a fairly typical Kiwi pub and fairly typical pub food. The waiter was friendly and busy, the wine list is ordinary, and the food was good (the chicken salad) and strictly average (the pork ribs).Avoid the ribs (not long enough being braised and an overly sugary sauce) and you will probably be all right.

The Sprig & Fern Milton St was voted Best Bar in NZ in 2012 and Best Bar in Nelson in 2013. The success of the craft beer tavern, owned by S&F Head Brewer Tracy Banner, has been down to the staff and the people who call the Milton St "Sprig" their local. The atmosphere is very welcoming, just like a big living room but without a loud TV to interfere with the chatting. All the S&F craft beers are on tap and carefully selected regional wines from NZ. A very popular range of food is available which is delivered piping hot to your table. Our style is very much English pub meets Kiwi tavern. If you are staying in Nelson and you enjoy excellent craft beer and company you have to make your way over to the Milton St Sprig & Fern tavern.
The tap beer on selection is great...we loved every beer we tried...not a whole lot on the food menu but everything was excellent...we had the pizza, mussels, and lamb nuggets...the location near the beach is another plus...great spot!

My wife and I visit this long-standing favourite several times each year and have NEVER been disappointed. A $5 corkage for BYOW is fantastic as is the 2 or 3 course set menu.
($30 and $35 respectively) Good old fashioned service and cuisine that are sure to please both your palette and your wallet,.

Good location with a lovely outside decking area to see in the sun. Stopped for lunch but the cheesecake tempted me too much. A lovely baked cinnamon and pecan cheesecake. Beautiful taste and good texture. Could have been a bit stiffer. Think it must be made with gelatine. Still one of the best cakes I’ve had in the Nelson area.
Staff also very polite.

My husband, two teenagers and myself went to Fossil Ridge for lunch. The food was very tasty and good value for money. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we couldn't sit outside as the day was a bit cold. Would recommend going here for a relaxed lunch.

A lovely café just off the main road, friendly and helpful service. Noisy with it being so busy. Fresh cabinet food to eat in or take away. Lovely freshly roasted coffee, food is nice but everything seafood I've tried in pie's, coquettes etc Ive not been able to taste nor find much. Great burgers!

I entered the empty restaurant and actually had to ask if it was open. I was greeted with a warm smile and an affirmative. Most the restaurants in the area were not which was a little strange because it was during their operating hours.
I ordered the tikka fried rice. I've never heard of it before but it sounded nice and it was.
The waitress noticed that I was not drinking my ice water on a cold day and offered me hot water. I've never been offered hot water but it was pleasant to have something to warm me up while I waited.
The meal was very tasty and gluten free.
Good service, good food.
