This restaurant was a pleasant surprise to find whilst travelling to Darwin. The menu offered a wide selection of food choices. Our order was prompt, well cooked and very tasty. The restaurant was well patronised and I think would be very busy as the week got on. Well recommended if you are visiting Katherine.

Attached to a petrol station next to the Riverview Caravan Park, the Barra Café is a great place to eat. Here's a few reasons: Good variety on the menu, including a Thai curry; very reasonable prices; massive murals on all walls - look for the hidden butterflies; and it is BYO with no corkage. Try the local Barramundi. From the outside it looks like a truck stop - but take the plunge and visit. We went twice!

We frequented this place a few times waiting for our car to be repaired. We watched the AFL grand final which had extra staff working. The lady at the front door was one of most lovely and friendliest people I have ever met. One of us had a singlet on which prohibited entry so she went and got a shirt so we could all go in.
The menu isn't large but the meals are fantastic. The oysters Kilpatrick were amazing. The schnitzels and palmo's are a great size. There is a vegies and salad bar. I am somewhat of a salad dodger however the roasted vegies are worth getting on their own which is an option.
Family friendly with a playground and sometimes live entertainment, you wont be disappointed.

We ordered coffees and breakfasts. The coffees all staggered their way out over a 10 minute period. I received my meal well before the others and was half finished when they received theirs. The other two patrons then received their meals which were meant to be exactly the same but they were totally different sizes. Seems the chicken was left off the one meal so it was returned to have the chicken included. When it came back the meals were still inconsistently different sizes. IT TOOK 30 MINUTES FOR THE MEALS TO ARRIVE. When the waiter bought the meal back he said, 'sorry about that MAN'. This venue could learn a lot from European service Delivery.

This establishment is listed on this website http://www.visitkatherine.com.au/pages/eating-out/

Katherine is a relatively small town and there are few restaurants and cafe's.
Great little cafe, service was good. Polite & informative staff, loved the old nostalgia on the walls. Reminds me of when i was a cinematographer using the the old reels for theatre.
Best of all was the food, very good & filling breakfast.
Would highly reccomend.

The service was excellent with wait staff being punctual and polite.
The food however was disappointing... paying $35+ for a medium rare scotch fillet only to find a $5 clearance steak from the supermarket appear on my plate. The meat was dry and had the tenderness of fresh military boot.
I'm surprised they can still fill a restaurant with the food they serve.. however there only saving grace is that there is no other decent Restaurants in town.
I would not recommend people paying good money for this food if you're craving a steak. Go to the butchers and cook your own.
Once again though the wait staff were delightful.

Marksie's Stockmans Camp Tucker Night was such a great dining experience, he went into such dept explaining the origins of the food and the native and indigenous influence so we learnt a lot as well as laughing all night! I love that be supports local producers and farmers. The food was delicious and it's set in such a great open and casual environment. This will definitely be a dining experience you will remember! Big Fig Bistro is a seasonal restaurant open for dinner Tuesdays to Sundays during the dry season April to September. It is situated under a large Fig Tree. All Seating is outside. It is in the grounds of the Big4 Holiday Park in Katherine, Northern Territory.
I am a local and haven't been to the Big Fig since last year. The atmosphere is beautiful, with lovely Gardens and fairy lights through out. Service was excellent and food very tasty. Very family friendly so be prepared for squealing, giggly kids playing tag. Prices very reasonable for NT standards. Will go back.

Nestled in the natural bush high above the ancient waterways of the Katherine River system, Cicada Lodge is the latest tourism venture of the Jawoyn people and the ideal base from which to explore this remote and stunning region. The Lodge is located inside Nitmiluk National Park, home to Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge. This deep gorge carved through ancient sandstone by the Katherine River, draws thousands of visitors to the Nitmiluk National Park each year. This diverse and spectacular landscape is also a cultural landscape, where the Jawoyn people continue to live and work while sharing their culture with visitors to their country. Nitmiluk is the Jawoyn name for Katherine Gorge. It is pronounced Nit-me-look, and literally means Cicada Place. The name was given by Nabilil, an important figure of the Jawoyn Creation Time. As he travelled through the country he came to the Gorge where he hears the song of the Cicada, “Nit, Nit, Nit!, and so the name was given.
We stayed two nights on the Green Season special. The room was spectacular- lots of space, super comfy bed and a lovely outlook through natural bush and out to the Gorge. The welcome drinks by the pool were lovely and the canapés were delicious.
The style is very 'Eco Lodge' - luxury NT style. It is within easy walking distance of the visitor centre and the lodge staff were happy to help book a Gorge cruise. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
My only complaint was the wifi didn't work on the first day - and as Telstra is the only phone company with reception it meant we had no contact with the outside world.
We will definitely stay again!
