Two hour fossil hunting trips and dinosaur walks to local Beaches on the South West coast of the Isle of Wight. Trips run all year round and everyday in the school holidays. Private trips, public trips, school trips, special occasion trips and specialist trips available. Suitable for all ages.
Organised a two hour trip with the 'Fossil Man' on a beautifully sunny day on a dropping tide. My wife is not the keenest on digging about with stones but at the end of the trip she was a convert.
I have been interested in fossils all my life and am 61 years of age and there is a pun in there somewhere.
The day started with crystal hunting amongst the pebbles, an introduction to the strata and geological history of the island and finished with dinosaur footprints. It was interesting on many levels and our guide was a Fountain of new knowledge with topics that were new to me. Brilliant few hours and for my wife to be convinced as well was a bonus. Highly recommended and came away with some new fossils for my collection.

Had a memorable and enjoyable afternoon out with Black Rock Charters. Went out past the Needles for some spectacular views. Rob was a patient instructor for someone who hadn't fished for forty years and was good company without being over chatty. Our party caught a...MoreThank you for your generous review. So glad you enjoyed fishing on board Alaminta and so glad the rainbow I ordered for your return to Yarmouth harbour was waiting

Absolutely fabulous place to visit. Our first one but it came highly recommended. Absolutely lovely place and the animals and birds so well looked after - you can tell the staff really live the creatures. Never seen such unusual monkeys- really stunning and very reactive to people. Owls beautiful. The meerkats funny and the talk really good. Great to be able to hold the cornsnake. Staff so friendly and willing to help and answer questions. Lovely setting and all the enclosures so beautiful.
They are really trying to save so many beautiful creatures and need support to do so. Do visit - 7 day return visits

I reserved a fossil hunting trip for myself, my wife and four grandchildren. This was confirmed via email by Dinosaur Expeditions for 4:30 on Monday 21st August.
We were in the car park as arranged at 4:10. There was no sign of anyone from dinosaur expeditions. There was a guide with a Dinosaur Isle T shirt on who left with his group at 4:15 but nobody from Dinosaur Expeditions. When there was no sign of anyone who seemed to be from your company by 4:30 my family walked down to the beach to check if there was anyone there while I waited in the car park until 4:40. During this time I attempted to phone both contact numbers but I could not get a signal on my mobile (Vodafone). By 4:50 we gave up, there seemed to be nobody from Dinosaur Expeditions or any people apparently waiting. The grandchildren were very disappointed that nobody showed up. If there was anybody from Dinosaur Expeditions it certainly was not obvious and there did not seem to be any other people waiting. As the whole day had been planned to meet at this car park at 4:30 the whole day was thoroughly spoiled.
To be fair when I complained about this incident I did get a message from a director saying;
'I am very sorry for the disappointment caused to you and your family, which is entirely our fault' and offering another trip,
But I did not get this email until our holiday was over.

Bringing to life the fascinating history of Railways on the Isle of Wight, this Visit England accredited, award winning attraction is a true journey into nostalgia. Beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages provide a view of the Island's unspoilt countryside. Your ticket includes unlimited day travel and access the NEW Train Story Discovery Centre. With the assistance of the Heritage Lottery Fund this £1.2 Million project opened in April 2014. Packed with interactive activities and fascinating displays, journey through the Island's very own Train Story. For details of the days trains run and timetable you can save money by booking online in advance.
We started our journey on time and it was a pleasant trip through the country side. We had the impression that the mince pie would be served on-route, but carriages did not have a corridor so we realised we were wrong. We had to get off the train and join a very long queue which most of us on our trip did not think it worth the effort.
Health and safety. The windows on the train were jammed and did not open. When we reached our destination we could NOT open the doors to get out, they too had jammed. My worry is- What if there had been a crash of some kind with no exit??

Former retreat for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert (circa 1845) still retains a large collection of the royal couple's possessions, art work and photographs. Also home to the Swiss Cottage for Victoria's children, and the private beach and bathing machine.
We came once before when it was raining, and today in the Sunshine was much more enjoyable. It’s a good place to spend several hours, lots of different areas to walk, the beach area is lovely and you can have a nice cuppa once you get there before the walk back. The house is huge, lots to see and Gardens are pretty.
Dogs on leads are allowed in most places except the Swiss Cottage, actual beach and inside the house.
It’s quite pricey to go in, but as I said, lots to see.

The Isle of Wight Military and Heritage Museum is operated by and for a registered charity . The charity uses any excess income from that museum to support ex service personal . It is firmly under the control of a board of trustees with a professional management team in place . This will secure the museum as a living memorial to the sacrifices that ordinary people are , all to often , called upon to make when diplomacy fails and armed conflict breaks out . It brings together items of historical interest and is largely staffed by volunteers who are typically ex service people who regularly give guided tours and talks . It has a cafe and the fully licensed Mess Bar in a former barracks building . The museum is not just a store of artifacts, it aims to be a hub for ex-service personnel to meet , share their knowledge and experience and access services tailored to their needs. The museum also provides volunteer posts for others in need . Any surplus income and donations from the museum go towards furthering these aims.
Visited this attraction with members of the EWPG camera group. It is run by volunteers who are all very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the items that have been displayed. Most of the items are on a permanent loan, and very good mix of the decades. The displays have a brief description of what the items are. There is a street that is the personal collection of 1 of the members which shows all the goods that would have been on sale at the time of the 2nd world war and beyond. There a number of different tanks and other military vehicles to look at. The volunteers are busy painstaking restoring a Bembridge Anti aircraft gun, which will eventually be displayed at Bembridge Fort.
Once you have been round the museum you can refresh yourself in the Churchill cafe which serves a range of light snacks.
