North Rhine-Westphalia (German: Nordrhein-Westfalen, pronounced [ˈnɔʁtʁaɪ̯n vɛstˈfaːlən] ( listen), commonly shortened to NRW) is the most populous state of Germany, with a population of approximately 18 million, and the fourth largest by area. Its capital is Düsseldorf; the largest city is Cologne. This giant Gothic Cathedral, which until its completion in 1880 had been under construction for over 500 years, is perhaps Germany's most famous religious structure and includes two huge towers that serve as the defining symbol of Cologne's skyline.
To be honest I am not religious in any way, but even so I can't help but admire the planning and work that went into this superb building over hundreds of years. Externally it is one of the most impressive buildings in the world, but internally it is even more impressive. Well worth a visit.

Hello folks, I recently visited a magic show here in Aachen and was in awe. Christian the magician dazzled me and the others with his quick wit, his incredible memory with numbers and his sleight of hand magic tricks. His connection to the audience was...MoreThank you very much :-)

Herzlichen Dank!!!

well when I first moved here people told me how good the place is, but really you have to see by yourself. Don't expect a traditional zoo though! It is like a small zoo with no entrance fee (completely funded by donations). You get to see small animals like goats, Guinea pigs, rabbits but also bears, buffalos, deer and wolfs. A good place for a walk or jogging. Kids can touch and play with goats and have a plying area, it also has a cafe and restaurant.

Spent a few hours looking around this place on a Sunday in Germany, easy to find and easy (and free) to access. If you don't mind the steps you'll get some amazing views and the scale of the engineering is jaw dropping.

I visited the museum exactly on the day of Global Climate Conference. The exposition starts already in the underground station, right before the museum entrance. This time photos from massive German coal mines where displayed. Purely from the visual perspective the photos where magnificent, but obviously coal is not most environmentally friendly way to heat our houses or produce electricity.
Mr. Adenauer's Mercedes and his train are on display. Several audio and video installations, as well as books, describe his time in German government.
Unfortunately due to reconstruction main part of the museum was closed. Still it was interesting to learn about Germany as the country of societies (Verein). There are more than 600000 of them in Germany.
I also enjoyed a nice display of German automobile history with yet one more government "pullman" Mercedes.
The museum is completely free of charge. There is a nice cafeteria on the 1st floor of the museum. Free WiFi is offered throughout the museum. You can reach the place by U66/67. Takes about 7-8 minutes from Bonn central station. I walked along the river. Walk from Bonn central station to the museum lasts around 1-1.5h.
I definitely enjoyed my several hours there.
99% of the signs are in German. Several reviewers already said they would've liked to see English explanations as well, till now it's not done. Nevertheless it's worth the visit.

Wonderful market on Saturdays (and Wednesdays I believe). Ask for a choice of cheese offered by some stands for an amount of your choosing. Hopefully some delightful surprise is included.
Ecological displays and sweets fight for your interest. You can grab a bite from the stands as well.
An experience not to miss.

This huge vessel has lots of history and was important to the area for many years: there are plenty of boards with info as you walk towards the entrance. It was dark inside on all the levels, where we walked around and enjoyed the photo exhibition of natural history, and the rotating planet earth at the top of the vessel. Interesting and unusual.
