We first went to the avenue for the sunset. Beautiful lighting for pictures and amazing sunset behind the baobab trees. There were a few other tourists, but not many. We also went to the avenue the next morning on our way to Kirindy Forest. This is the time to go if you want to have the avenue for yourself, of course, with the exception of the locals which makes the place so picturesque. This place is magical!

Tsingy Rouge was a beautiful experience since it was our first tsingy in Madagascar. From Diego Suarez it is quite a while, around 3h. Since the roads are terrible, car rental is impossible and if you find one, it is not worth the risk. The tsingy was beautiful, something different and interesting how it was created but it was a bit small, meaning it took around half an hour to walk and see it all. The rest we spend in the car. Therefore, I would recommend to combine the trip - leave early morning from Diego Suarez, visit Tsingy Rouge and continue to the Ankarana park which has big gray tsingy and stay a night or two and continue to Nosy Be or wherever else you like...

We were warned that the road into Mantadia was "bumpy." So it was not as bad as expected! It is well worth the effort to get to the end of the road. We saw the Indri quite well here, and enjoyed a good, long walk in pristine rainforest.

Distinguished by a canyon and beautiful, rolling plains, the Parc National de Isalo is an attractive reserve of Madagascar's land and wildlife.
This is a lovely place for a hike, preferably all day. The pools are beautiful, and the hills are remarkable. It can be hot, so bring plenty water, but enjoy!

An early morning tour at the reserve started with breakfast, which I brought, since I overshopped in the food department the day before. After a while our guide joined us taking us past the community laundry place, which is a small Reservoir used by the locals. Cattle are free ranging and once in a while, you run into a friendly Zebu or two.
The Park is fairly small and it's easy to get to the to the forest area walking past the shoreline. Our guide helped me navigate through the more difficult areas in order to get close to the lemurs. There were lemurs everywhere to observe, in the trees and sometimes on the ground and plenty of chameleons. The lemurs even the mothers with infants came very close to us. It was a great place for photo-ops and observing the lemurs in their natural environment. Our guide spoke english and was full of information about the lemurs, chameleons, plants and the history of the park.
It was a great beginning of a day.

Up close and personal...these lemurs are in the wild but fed daily so they aren't scared of people... 2 hours of fun when in Madagascar. Also, saw some chameleons and tortoises while we were there...Nice guide, very helpful with explanations and questions

The Antsokay arboretum is a botanic garden with a collection of over 900 plant species from the southwest of Madagascar, 90% are endemic to the region and 80% have medicinal properties. Among these many succulent species are recognized as endangered.Visit also include opportunity to see creatures you can see no where else in the world. Not just chameleons, boas, tenrecs or birds but also other endemics such as the mouse lemurs which are the main night visit attraction of the arboretum.
This is a must if you are interested in the flora of Madagascar. Everything is labeled and there are the most unusual plants on the planet

Boat rides are an awesome way to gave a glance at the canal but you should try staying for a couple of days. Great lodges like hotel palmarium, villages worth visiting, lemurs evwrywhere an even the Aye Aye which is the Gremlin itself ! Access is not so easy but totally worth the effort !

Fortunately, it was dry when we visited Ranomafana, even though it was the start of the rainy season. The hike we took was quite easy, and we saw several types of geckos (including the Satanic Leaf-tailed Gecko!), a Ring-tailed Moongoose, and several species of lemurs. All but one of our group of 10 opted out of the strenuous climb to see two other types of Bamboo Lemurs. The one who did go, do not seem all that impressed. Most of the lemur sightings are high in the trees - good for viewing, but not for photos. The night walks were great - lots of chameleon and a few night lemurs.
Beware of the spice sellers at the end of the trail. Although the prices are good, especially for vanilla beans, the beans were not sealed well and were moldy for the time I got them home!
