Built on a narrow, rocky ridge, Antananarivo occupies a strategic point at the center of the island of Madagascar. Two forts watch over the city from the east and southwest, while within the city limits lay royal palaces, embassies, some fifty churches and a mosque. The city's most distinguishing feature may be the burnt out remains of the Rova, or Queen's Palace, situated on a prominent hill. Its steep alleys and stairways make Antananarivo a challenging but rewarding city to explore on foot.

The KUDéTA is a trendy ethnic chic decor restaurant for casual and elegant people. Our cuisine is genuinely global mixed with malagasy exotic flavours and spices. The menu makes imaginative use of local ingredients according to the seasons. You'll also discover our extensive wine list to please the most sophisticated palate and match with our food.
Located on downtown Antananarivo customer base the evening I was there was mainly tourists and expatriates. Inexpensive but good cocktails (Mojitos for about $3), nice selection of wines. Initial starter of Foie Gras sampler very good. Main dishes, lamb, pork, cordon bleu safe but nothing extraordinary. At times difficult to catch the attention of the service staff..

In a cozy atmosphere "" The Restaurant "La Varangue" is open from breakfast to dinner to enjoy in a unique kitchen "World flavors and fragrance of our island" concocted by the chef.
We enjoyed our dinner here immensely. Our group of five ordered a variety of food and our favorites were the duck with cranberry sauce, pan-fried Zebu fillet and the saffron risotto. The vegetarian platter was a nice compilation of five small dishes and certainly quite filling. The famous chocolate explosion dessert was a little bitter (very dark chocolate) for our tastes but the presentation was a lot of fun. True to its French cuisine inspiration, they offered nibbles of delicious foie gras and a homemade rum infusion as an apperitif. Be sure to try it!
Ambiance was very fun and eclectic with brass antiques adorning the walls, and we really felt like we were in a small fine dining restaurant in France. Service was also very attentive and professional. One thing to note - a 10% “service charge” is included in the final bill but this is not a tip for the wait staff. The charge seems to benefit the owner so best leave an additional tip on the table if you were happy with the service.
We knew of the excellent reputation of the restaurant but what surprised us most was the incredible value. All meat dishes were less than 10€, desserts around 6€, a glass of delicious Bourdeaux was also 6€. And they accepted credit cards without an additional surcharge so do splurge!

Probably the best restaurant we visited in Tana. Short, easy-to-understand menu, but with a nice variation of dishes. Food quality was excellent and the presentation was great. First time I had a carpaccio in Africa, and lived to tell the tale... Steaks, pizzas, sushi(!), burgers, salads and great desserts.
Great wines too, both in bottles and pichets. Credit cards accepted, great service from attentive young waiters who speak both French and English.
We'd definitely recommend this place, and we'd definitely go again!

Described as "Creole", I was eager to see what Sucett's was serving. It's quite a mix of Thai, Malagasy, French and Soul food, all rolled in a single menu. We tried a variety of different culturally distinct offerings, and there was not a single miss! Everything is fresh, delicious; and if you like a little spice - you will not be disappointed. With the thai dishes, I was particularly pleased for the perfect flavoring of fish sauce. It's a beautiful little dining room.

le petit verdot is an interesting restaurant, old style, with an interesting menu (andouille, sanglier, foie gras of course etc) and a very decent wine list with reasonnable prices. I ate one of the best meat of Antananarivo (cote de boeuf) nicely grilled and tender but tasty.
I went several times to this place, sometime a bit disappointed by the cook, he does not keep the same standards everydays.
Go to this place, you will have fin, nice and smiling waitresses on the top.

My husband and I stayed at Sakamanga upon our arrival to Mada and again prior to our departure and while I could wax on about what a wonderful property it is, I'll save that for another review and just say that whether you stay here or not, you must find time to dine at the restaurant. My husband's marlin was the best he'd ever had, the ginger fruit punch was amazing, and my zebu was cooked and seasoned just perfectly! I highly recommend tucking in here for a meal sooner than later!

In a side of the railway station, this colonial restaurant with its leather sofas and homecoming ambience is the meeting point for locals and tourists in Antananarivo. Although the menu is not very extensive, the food is tasty, well prepared and served. The products are of a very good quality and the Foie Gras is better than good.
As I said earlier, this is probably the best place to meet and enjoy a meal or drink in the city.
Music is also good and not too loud.
