Summerlee - Museum of Scottish Industrial Life

Reviewed By Nilindy - Glasgow, United Kingdom

Glasgow and the west of Scotland's industrial heritage relied on location, via the Clyde and the tobacco/cotton/sugar trade, resources from Lanarkshires coal and iron reserves, education following the reformation, and entrepreneurial acumen.
Summerlee provides insight into technology , industry and manpower that provided still and iron for the industrialisation that made Glasgow pivotal in the latter half of the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century's transport revolutio.
Beautifully presented, free and with abundant free parking this gem contrasts starkly with a town that was once the most polluted in the world.

Scottish Reformation Tours

We are a tour company that offers day tours of Scotland's rich Christian history. We specialise mainly on the Reformation and Covenanter period and take people to both the well know locations and ones that are off the beaten track. We also offer longer tours for those that wish to stay for a few days. All our tours are custom built to suit.

This tour went far beyond our expectations. Our school asked for an ambitious trip for our seniors and we got it! Jimmy and Helen were exceptionally personable, knowledgeable and anticipated our needs all along the way. Outstanding highlights on our tour included St Andrew's castle and Cathedral, accommodations in a picturesque cottage, Greyfriar's Kirkyard in Edinburgh, off the beaten path Scottish reformation sites, Stratford, Christ Church Oxford, The Tower of London, St Paul's, Tintern Abbey, Giant's Causeway, Londonderry, and some unplanned stops such as White Castle in Wales. We learned the history as story and were deeply moved by some of the events. The pace was steady but not overwhelming. We made new friends with Jimmy and Helen and look forward to seeing them again.

Visited with three kids. One 10-year-old and two 4-year-olds. All the kids loved the soft play and had great fun but had to leave earlier than we would have liked as the tills were broken and they could not sell us any juice for the kids who were thirsty from running around.

My girlfriend and me went here today through a Groupon voucher. The park was amazing! The birds where beautiful and it was awesome to see them fly, even a wee sneeky view of ana the Andean condor who was magnificent! The staff where so knowledgeable that you couldn't help but share their passion! And who knew vultures were so cool!

We stayed at the hotel and took the advantage of using the Spa while we were there. All the equipment worked as it should and there were staff available to assist if required. The pool is on the small side but that is fairly normal. I was impressed by the facilities and unlike many hotels, all the equipment worked. We both enjoyed our workout after a bad, bad party.

Strathclyde Country Park

Reviewed By Avongrove - Hamilton, Scotland, United Kingdom

Based on a dog walking perspective. Lovely park for a leisurely stroll with the dogs. Only thing I would say would be to avoid the quieter areas at the back of the park behind the theme park. A lot of weird men hang about here and have come across a few strange goings on in the past, things that shouldn’t be happening in daylight in a public park. Needless to say, I stick to the paths round the Loch now. I wouldn’t recommend letting your kids run loose in the more wooded areas. The council really need to get something done about this.

Gravit8

Reviewed By Lorrilang - Airdrie Scotland

Visited tonight with our 10 yr old daughter. We have been several times previously with no issues.
We were told to go sit down after paying and wait for safety procedure talk. We expected this as we've been before. 20 minutes later my husband had to go ask how much longer it would be as it was getting late. Told to go back and sit down won't be long.
Whilst we were waiting we noticed that the staff were not supervising the children already on the trampolines as they were too busy either chasing each other around (yes the Staff) or lying in the foam block pit.
Eventually a few other children arrived and my daughter got called over with them to go into the "safety briefing". Now we have sat in on the first safety briefing our daughter had on her first visit when it first opened and the guy was explaining everything and asked questions to make sure they understood that goofing around and jumping wrong could be dangerous. TONIGHT'S "safety" briefing consisted of a young girl with two French plaits(didn't get her name) putting a video on then leaving the briefing room to have a blether with her co workers and get her friend (co worker) an ice blast. She then popped her head in for 20 seconds then came back out for another blether. Then went back in at the end and told the kids to go play. This was dangerous and unprofessional.
The foam pit had approx five children in it mucking around which was fine but they were unsupervised. The staff were all still having a carry on with each other using their walkie talkies to giggle to each other and pushing each other around. No supervision. Only two people in total made an effort again I didn't get names but one very young blonde guy and one I'm sure was called david. David seemed really to be the only one taking his job seriously.
Previously in the foam pit with the beam if a child is on their own a member of staff would interact with them and play on the beam with the pugle sticks. My daughter stood for several minutes at a time waiting on a member of staff but they had their backs turned to her. They knew she was there as they turned around but turned back again and continued to carry on amongst themselves leaving my daughter disappointed. Eventually she tried again and david spotted her and showed her what to do and they had fun. He seemed to be supervising himself the full time.
Another group of children came in and got put into safety briefing to be left alone again by same girl.
All in all my daughter did enjoy her hour but as parents we were disappointed by the sheer lack of care by the staff. There should always be someone there to go through the essential safety briefing. Not leave young children to watch a video. Staff were very unprofessional and were too preoccupied carrying on with each other.
