Mount Everest

The highest peak in the world.

Reviewed By banerx - England, United Kingdom

The climb was enjoyable and so too were the views along the way. There were a few dead bodies and corpses lying around so slightly awkward- also, after all the difficult climbing and huge payments, the view at the top was rather disappointing. We also expected a complimentary journey back in a form of transportation but no as soon as we were at the top, after a few snaps, it was time to go back down. The Sherpa who we spent most of our time with barely said a word and we had to endure what we had done before all over again. Overall an OK experience with a few incidents here and there.

This is the birthplace of Gautama Buddha. To get there, there are the tuk tuks and/or boat to take you to the entrance area. Many sites to see including the eternal flame, Baby Buddha statue, Ashoka column, building with baby Buddha's 7 steps in all direction, and the tree where he was born. Named for the mother, this is one of the four main sites for Buddhist pilgrims. A must see.

Chitwan National Park

Reviewed By Arunava S - Kolkata (Calcutta), India

Chitwan is located about 150 km from Kathmandu. Though connected by road better to take flight to nearest airport i.e Bharatpur and then driving for 30 min to Sauraha village. Lots of good hotels are available and they usually offer packages. Make sure that u have a good guide who can help you to navigate. October to March is the best time to visit. Summers are bad in this part of Nepal and hence better to avoid. You can see lots of crocodile, alligators, one horn rhino, wild boar, deers, elephants, peacocks and many more. And if u are really lucky one you can spot a Royal Bengal Tiger too. Make sure that u dont miss out on Canoe riding and Jungle safari. Suggest to take Jeep Safari as it can travel longer distance. Usuallybit takes about 4 hours. You can also try out elephant safari thru the jungle. Please do not forget to carry good camera with long vision lens. Binoculars are also useful, though the guides usually carry those. If you are interested for bird watching then chitwan will surely tickle your inquisition. Overall this is a nice trip for 2-3 days.

Thrangu Tashi Monastery

Reviewed By Pamela S - Canberra, Australia

When you visit Nepal, a day trip to Namo Buddha is well worth the visit. Although only 40 km from Kathmandu, the trip takes 2 hours by road as it winds its way out of the valley and up to the hill where the Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery is located. In winter from October to May the views of the mighty Himalaya peaks are spectacular. You can spend a whole day at Namo Buddha. First you can spend a couple of hours going around the monastery and the nearby hills. then you can have lunch at the monastery café near the entrance - nothing fancy but very tasty and run by the monks. Then you can walk 20 minutes down the hill to the Stupa where a relic of the prince remains. According to a legend, 6000 years ago a prince discovered a tigress lying near a rock. He realized that the tigress was about to die due to hunger with her five little babies still sucking milk from her. So the Prince cut his body to give his warm blood to the tigress. The tigress then consumed him leaving only his bones. Namo Buddha is also one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Nepal and the monastery is magnificent and beautifully kept. In addition to the monastery there are so many special places to see connected to the prince and the tigress legend so you can easily spend a whole day there. It is possible to get there by local bus but the road is rough and windy, it is recommended you hire a vehicle to take you there and back. Leave at Kathmandu at 8am and visit the monastery first before lunch, and leave Namo Buddha to come back around 3pm. The monks will give you a free guided tour of the monastery.

Narayani River

Reviewed By steve9631 - Bellingham, Washington

Nice float with no determinable white water, however we were there in the dry season, and the river was low. River access is offered by the local lodges abutting the park, and long wooden flat boats are utilized that carry around 8 people and rowers. Plenty of wildlife was viewable during our float and lunch on the far side of the river, with waterfowl, elephants working the fields, and a fair amount of crocodiles present.
Water was quite clear in the river to my surprise, and there were several fishermen working from their boats and long the shore. Not the most impressive river I've ever floated, but as far as rivers I've floated in Nepal, it's the best. Life jackets were provided by the boats I saw in the Chitwan area. Worth the effort.
