We are a free house pub that is owned by a family living in the village of Birstwith, set in the beautiful Yorkshire Dale of Nidderdale. Popular with walkers and others who want to experience the spectacular Yorkshire scenery, our location provides excellent access to the Yorkshire Dales and the spa town of Harrogate and its famous tea rooms. As well as location we aim to delight our visitors with our first class food, drinks, service and accommodation. Our Food Our experienced chefs have justifiably gained a great reputation for delivering consistently good quality food. Our menu changes regularly but will always include the true English pub classics as well as some a la carte dishes to tempt every palate. We pride ourselves on locally sourcing our food, using local butchers, fishmongers and other food producers wherever possible. We grow a selection of our own herbs and vegetable in summer. Vegetarians are well catered for and all our sauces are gluten free, we are more than happy to cater for any specific dietary requirements. Our Drinks Our selection of drinks is also something of which we're proud. We provide a range of Cask Marque accredited Real Ales from many of the excellent local Breweries including Black Sheep, Copper Dragon, Daleside, Ilkley, Rudgate, York as well as the once local Tetleys. To compliment these we offer several Lagers and Ciders in both bottled and draught forms as well as the ever popular Guinness. If you're a fan of wine you need not fear as we provide quality wines at reasonable prices both "by the glass" and "by the bottle". We also carry a large selection of spirits, whiskeys and liqueurs. Our Rooms We have four fantastic guest bedrooms located on the first floor of the main pub building and a two bedroom accessibility suite located on the ground floor in a separate annex to the pub. All the rooms are furnished with traditional Oak furniture, comfortable beds and luxury bathrooms, we are certain you will enjoy staying with us. Our rooms include all the comforts you would expect - tea and coffee making facilities, IPod/IPhone docking station/alarm clock, free Internet access and flat screen freesat TV. We are located just 5 miles from Harrogate and have free on-site parking facilities. With the added benefit of our bar and restaurant downstairs and a full English breakfast to prepare you for the day we are the perfect base for holiday breaks of business trips.
We came for a meal last Sunday and returned this Sunday with family as we enjoyed it so much. Our meals were beautiful and such relaxing comfortable surroundings. The roasts were delicious and desserts especially the pear and raspberry crumble were very moorish. We must mention Graham the waiter who was so lovely and helpful and made our evening so relaxed. We will definitely be back as a real find.

Small restaurant, cosy, romantic, still family orientated, rustic with original art works, on display, Venetian polished plaster walls, 30 covers, traditional home cooked regional southern Italian in a warm welcome and relaxing dinning experience in a beautiful unique restaurant
My wife and I were visiting Harrogate and decided to try this restaurant due to its high score on TripAdvisor. Glad we did the food was first class as was the service. Particularly liked the seafood and had the black ink seafood risotto which was fantastic.

Proper home cooked food with a hint of Southern Europe, great coffee and cakes, warm, casual atmosphere.

Sharing Plates & Steaks
We ordered the fillet steak and sea bream. Food was amazing. Steak melt in your mouth and triple cooked chips were gorgeous and obviously homemade. The sea bream was delicious with the most flavoursome sun dried tomatoes I have ever tasted. Michael’s service was exemplary - what a lovely guy. He was so passionate about the restaurant that we thought he was the owner. Well worth a visit. Oh and the sticky toffee pudding was to die for. Thanks guys for a lovely evening.

Took friends who were visiting Harrogate for an evening meal at the weekend. We knew what to expect - they didn't and they were absolutely wowed by the experience. From a genuine friendly welcome to a sad farewell at the end of the evening - the whole experience was outstanding. Menu is so varied to meet all tastes supported by weekly specials. Wine and beer menu outstanding. We had their own prepared pastrami for starters and the mussels. Superb flavors. Then it was oxtail and chorizo ragu or lamb shanks - both mouth watering meat dishes. Some shared the local cheese board whilst others had sticky toffee pudding. All devoured without haste. A wonderful evening summed up by one of our party "possibly the best meal I've ever had".

We have visited this cafe twice on recent visits to Harrogate. The menu is really varied and apart from the Chinese menu the also provide snacks, English breakfasts and toast dinners.
The staff are polite and very friendly. On our last visit I mislaid my mobile phone and thought I might have left it there. One young man helped us look for it and after phoning it for me I was able to locate it. He really went out of his way to help at a time when the cafe was full. Will definitely return again.

We booked this restaurant on the basis of the excellent reviews on trip advisor. However what a disappointment! I had stuffed aubergine and my girlfriend had the cobun kavurma. Both dishes were so bland..the kavurma just chicken and veg...lacking any sauce or flavour.
The only good thing about the meal was the house wine.
Service was excellent and waiters lovely but the food was a big let down, sorry to say.

Had a lovely evening meal here in a country pub with lots of character, excellent cuisine and first class service.
We were lucky to get a table following a late cancellation and would certainly hope to visit again. Not only was the food very good, there was a good selection of draught cask beer at a very reasonable price.

Norse is a relaxed restaurant located by the entrance to the beautiful Valley Gardens in Harrogate. We serve modern food using Yorkshire produce. We offer an la carte menu which is available at lunch or dinner as well as extra value Early Evening/Lunch set menu. For those that would like a longer experience we also offer a tasting menu. We'd love to host you at the restaurant soon. Regards Paul, Simon, Gareth and the Norse team.
Service is warm and friendly and the £25 3 course lunch was completely delicious. Inventive cooking with real twists. The spherical Swedish pancake filled with chicken liver parfait was a highlight. The home-baked sourdough with fermented yeast butter (think marmite but subtle) was gorgeous. Fennel cooked in apple dashi with picked fennel, celeriac, sea fennel and burnt shallots outshone even the absolutely stunning piece of cod my husband had. Try the Sour Suzy Norwegian beer. 4 beers, 2 starters, mains and puds all for £73. Astonishing value and thoughtful cooking.

You cant book in advance as its first come first served (unless you get afternoon tea) so we were lucky to get a table. I ordered the pancakes which were £10. Very generous portion plus yoghurt, nutella and maple syrup, along with berries and flowers. Overall wonderfully presented, filling and tasty. Will come back for afternoon tea no doubt!
