The double decker root bridge is definitely unique and the hike is quite beautiful too - if you're up for it. The first and last part of the trek are the most difficult, with about 1500 steep, continuous steps down a hill that keep going on and on. After that, you come across a village and the steps are a little more staggered. Then, you cross two streams, one on a shaky, narrow cable bridge and one on a broader, steadier bridge. And then you climb about 1/3 of another hill and THEN you reach Nongriat, the village where the double decker root bridge is located.
Both bridge and journey are beautiful with mountainous vistas, pristine streams and dense jungle. But getting there definitely requires both mental and physical stamina, so know your physical limits and come prepared. Water and snacks are available on the way, and there is maggi at Nongriat. Good sports shoes are essential for the tourist, and hiking sticks, which you can rent for Rs.20 at the entrance, are highly recommended. Guides are also available for Rs.600 but for just the root bridge, they're really not necessary because there is just one defined path.
It took us about 2 hours to go down and 2.75 hours to come down but we saw younger groups (one member of our party was in her fifties) go down in about an hour and come back in 1.5 hours.

HI i am vasanta kumar Rayudu from Vijayawada recently visited this living root bridge at NOHWET village While going to Asia's cleanest village MAWLYNNONG.It is easy to reach with llittle trekkig compared to chirrapunjee double stair rooting bridge. The rooting bridge carved with live Indian rubber tree (ficus elastica.) dated back from 1840 ;villagers used it to cross gushing river in rainy seasons. It is unveiled by Thailand PRINCE MAHA CHAKRI SIRINDHORN on 24 th November 2016.Must visit for nature lovers, on the way to this attraction some village shops sold orchid plants at cheaper price for plant lovers. The way itself surrounded with tez pattha plants(leaf used in biryaani for flavour). The entry fees at nominal 10/-rs for this live root bridge.

Umium lake comes approx 15km before Shillong while coming from Guwahati; It s a very huge and beautiful lake where in you may just halt for few minutes or go for the different water sports activities.
Some may even consider staying here at one of the resorts.
Overall a must visit place in Shillong

This is in the less travelled Jaintia Hills. The landscape you find on the journey makes this worth the while. The Falls themselves are approachable only by going down a steep trail with stone steps. It does take some effort, but lovely once you are down.

We visited the falls in February first week, and this was the only fall in Cherrapunji which had some water, although the view is distant, unless you decide to trek down to the base. There are shops selling snacks and cut fruits like pineapple.

This forest remains unchanged since last 800 years... yes, thats what we were told by our guide... ancient rituals were conducted here long ago and once it discontinued, everything in the forest remains untouched...
One has to take a local guide to enter the forest...it was quiet, a bit foggy (when we went there) and silent... perfect setting for a horror genre movie... but we loved it... we even tried our hands playing tarzan on a hanging root from a tree...
Overall, a mesmerizing place... you don't want to miss it... :)
Outside the forest there is a small shop serving local delicacies, maggi and tea/coffee...

Mawlynnong is a small village surrounded by lush green beauty. It's a cleanest place in Asia. You are amazed to see how these villagers keep village so clean through their self sustained means.Beautyful small houses having flowers and greenery all around. Near the village there is living root bridge which is a sight to see. One has to go down around 450 meters through forest but when you reach there you are stunned to see how roots of rubber tree made such a strong bridge to cross river. Meghalaya is full of nature's treasure in abundance.
