We have just spent 10 days over new year skiing in this amazing place. It had everything for our mixed ability group of children and adults. What was most impressive was despite not being that high and the 10 degree temperatures for most of December the snow conditions were excellent due to the tremendous hard work of all those preparing the pistes. Well done guys. Your efforts and considerable investment are very much appreciated. We will be back next year for more of the same.

It always seems interesting to visit caves. This one is not your typical stalagmites etc, but it tells another story of flooding. Pretty cool inside. Lots of steps, because you go up higher. Gives a good impression of caving itself.

Skiarea Steinplatte - Winklmoosalm Is a family ski area, located in between 3 regions - Tirol, Salzburg, Bavaria It offers guaranteed snow, high quality slopes and maximum convenience, this equates to unlimited top-class winter fun! The sunny mountain plateau slopes are accessible for all abilities and are widely as well as rewarded. Additionally there is the Snowpark for all snowboarders and freeskiers and the Triassic Funline for all the kids. All of this makes Steinplatte in Waidring the place to be.
We enjoyed the fantastic scenic ride up the mountain on the unique circular gondolas then had a wander past the gorgeous pool at the "beach", along to the viewpoint with the scary glass floor! It was a pity that some of the paths to the...MoreThank you so much!

We decided to walk up to the Hintersee, and were not disappointed after a gentle 6 kilometer long walk.
The lake is beautiful, framed on all sides with magnificent Mountains.
There are boat rentals, walking trails, parking if you drive up, and a public WC at the west end, as well as two or three cafes. Be warned, these can fill up fast on a nice day.
Go early.

A modern base station leads up to 8 person gondolas. For the summer season some fo them have had one seat removed so that mountain bikes can be carried with you. Alternatively bikes can be carried on an external arm. There is a mid-station but if you want to go all the way up you can stay in your gondola.

In bad weather the place might be crowded. Why not walk up and down instead of using the chairlift. Your GP will love it.

I was at Hochfilzen Austria for the Biathlon world championships 2017. The arena is top class with 30 lanes, excellent athlete facilities with ensuite rest rooms, secure wax rooms, a big hall for the Biathlon family club and excellent competition offices.
The event was very well organized by the local organising committee.
There's a free Biathlon shuttle bus that services the nearby towns. But take care, you still have to walk about 2.5 km from the bus stop to the stadium.
You can't fail to notice the area is quite industrial. This area used to be a major manganese mining center in Europe.

We skied down into Germany from Waidring, and way down across the border, at the end of the long green run, is the Würstl Alm - the Little Sausage Croft. We sat out in the sun and ate our little sausage. Quite a big sausage actually - I went for the Käsekrainer. The what? Well, it was either that or the Debreziner. The Käsekrainer turned out to be a spicy sausage with cheese. Not hugely spicy, but nice; you could taste the cheese in it.
The place itself is set back slightly from the run. It's an old wooden farmhouse with a window. The troll inside takes your order and it magically appears. There is no attempt here to cater for the usual anglophone ignorance of the German language, but since the menu is limited, you can get by with Wurst and Bier. You might struggle with "Mitgebrachte Speisen und Getränke dürfen hier nicht verzehet werden". It means "No Picnics "
Apparently you can ski on down from here to Reit im Winkl, but it's a long slow road and the snow was already slushy.

Lovely gondola ride to the top of the mountain, then a nice leisurely walk around the top before a lovely meal and drink in the restaurant at the top. Then back to the bottom on the Rauschberg bahn

We have been here about five times previously and every time we go they have added something new for children. Our two boys (now 8 and 10 years old) love it! The rollercoaster, water ride, slides, trampolines are great fun and the complete lack of queues is a fantastic advantage. We paid 58.00 Euro's (c. £45.00) for a family of four and it is definitely great value for money when you look at what you would have to pay at any UK theme park (with hours of queues thrown in for free). The staff are really friendly too which all contributes to a great experience and wonderful day out.
