This place was recommended by the Austria Ski Guide. Quick and efficient service - very efficient indeed. Nice place obviously geared up for large numbers. It's surprisingly large, and on this off season midweek day only about a quarter of the tables outside were taken.
I ordered Tirolergröstl mit Spiegelei and a carafe of red wine. It came in minutes. I suppose that they know from experience that they are going to shift half a ton of sauté potatoes, so they have it ready to dish up. And a fried egg doesn't take long.
Something of a motorway service station, though. I felt that something was lacking. That Austrian charm perhaps?

This restaurant is located on top of the skiing area Steinplatte and belongs to Austria. There is also another restaurant directly opposite of this one and I think it belongs to Germany.
We had a noodle soup and another soup accompanied by some drinks. The price was ok considering that you are in a skiing area. There were many tables and benches outside, there was also the possibility to sit inside. To get you food, you have to go inside and order it at the sveral stations. The room looks like a cantine, and so does the food.
For example the noodle soup is done the following way: they put cooked noodles on your plate. Then they put the broth on it. Then the sausage. I mean that might be done like this in all other restaurants in this area, however here you see it.
To this atmosphere contributes in addition the way of collecting the dishes. Two people are occupied all day with driving a table with wheels through the rows of benches and collecting the dishes and glasses of the people. Again, this might be done anywhere else but was odd somehow.
However to sit outside when the sun is shining can't be beaten. Also the views are great. Toilets are clean as well.

We have always known about this place, often having lunch there, but this time we went for dinner for the first time.
WOW! No other word to describe it. The food was brilliant, with amazing steaks and a mixed grill the like of which I have never eaten before. The service was excellent and the Gashof is in the traditional style. We just couldn't fault it and will certainly be there again on our next visit.

The restaurant is nice, except for tons of flies, and the food quality is good.
But we have been waiting forever for our orders.
We dropped into this restaurant at 1:45 PM, apparently off-peak hour.
At 2:45 we received part of the order: a salad.
waiters were running around with any sort of dish trying to find the customer that ordered it.
After 15 more minutes we finally get an omelet and a currywurst.
All customers were in a never-ending wait for food and for the bill.
if you are in a hurry, better to find another place, otherwise enjoy it.

Easy going hospitality and value for money. We are staying on the nearby campsite and on arriving late decided to try this restaurant. We were not disappointed. Piping hot food, lots of tasty variety. Traditional surroundings with a modern twist. Spotlessly clean everywhere including the toilets. Pleasant for just a coffee too. Thumbs up

We found this location having visited the waterfall at the back of St Johann (unless you've never seen one - not worth the effort).
It's a large location, but we didn't find the staff overly friendly which was unusual in the two weeks in the area.
They have a good range of food and drinks available at reasonable prices.
Worth a visit for the views alone.

Fabulous steak restaurant. Arrived in Waidring on a sunday and this was the only place opened. It was cold and rainy and as soon as we walked in the place it was very warm and the the greeting was as warm. Very friendly with great service and wonderful food they could not have been any more accommodating
We were warmly welcomed to his establishment. We ordered pizza and a chicken, paprika, cheese dish. All were very good. Many of the places here Re smoking friendly. So that is my only negative. I smelt like smoke when we left.

The restaurant located beside the street, easy to find there, we pass by a car and stop to have lunch there, the food was delicious and very more than I expected, a very big dish for one person !!

Bottom Line Up Front: This is a must go with the family as they are very relaxed and parents will be able to enjoy their meals and drinks at large tables - however do not expect 'fine' food.
Pros: Food and drink choice is good for a Apre Ski location you could ski too - great service and very friendly team all around with family.
Cons: It would be nice to have a bit more refined Bavarian food in such a unique and lovely location, but don't let that stop you going!
Recommend: Go early to get a table or make a reservation.

This place is fully booked every night and rightly so. The pizza is excellent (made in a traditional open oven) - I could not overstate how tasty it is. The pasta is very good, and the service is quick - helpful and nice waiters. Moderately priced.
