Kjosterudjuvet is a 10.000 year old, spectacular, ravine only 10 minutes from Drammen centre. The ravine is 1300meters long and the stone walls are more than 60meters high. A more exiting excursion is hard to find!
I couldn't really write a more help review than JosieJo did on Aug 25, she gives fantastic advice. We made the mistake of initially trying to walk up on the cliff edge where there was an obvious path. FORGET IT!! There are no views of anything other than trees up there. To really enjoy this you MUST scramble up the floor of the canyon. It was great fun. We got a bit wet but 99% of the time it was easy to stay dry. The only places we got a bit wet were the ladders by the Waterfalls and the final rope climbing part where your toes might get wet. For anyone with at least average fitness, this will all be no problem at all, it didn't feel at all strenuous. When we reached the Reservoir at the top, there wasn't a soul around so we dropped our drawers and went for a lovely refreshing swim! We walked back down the east side of the canyon near the ski field which wasn't scenic but got us down nice and quick, part of the way was a really intense downhill mountain biking course with wooden ramps etc! This was the best thing we did in Drammen, great fun...and remember, from the bridge, just start straight up the creek bed and you can't go wrong.

We visited here the last week of August, so it was quieter due to the Norwegian schools having returned. The walk is very straight forward. Walk past the Bragernes church (also very beautiful with charming hourly bell rings) and cross the road, there you will find access to the 'zig-zag' path which takes you to the top.
It is well marked, and the path in excellent condition making the walk accessable for all. There are frequent benches for anyone wishing to stop, rest and take in the view and there is a cafe at the top for refreshments (the apple pie we had was particularly good!) there are many walks beginning from the cafe/car park at the top and we spent a very enjoyable few hours exploring the rich forest in the sun. There is also the outdoor museum in this forest area, with examples of Norwegian buildings and houses from different historic periods.
Definitely worth a visit - peaceful & beautiful.

The Drammensbadet is the largest water park facility in Norway. Here you will find several pools both indoors and outdoors – including a 50 meter pool -- in addition to water slides, climbing walls, etc. An eldorado for everyone who enjoys water.
Several different pools and possibilities to have fun, slide, practice swimming or just relax make it a great place for families. Even though there are many people at the place it doesn't seem too crowded.
You easily spend 2 hrs if you include a food break as kids love it. The toddler pool is heated for comfort which makes it pleasant fir parents while the kids carry on 'forever' on the slide and by the Fountains.
It's possible to bring your own food or buy from the kiosk within the area.
The only drawback would be the slightly steep prices for entry and for snacks in the kiosk.
Without much luxury I spent 400kr for two kids and myself.

The main church in Bragernes dates from 1871. Bragernes Church was erected in neo-Gothic style and located in the heights towards the hill. Its well-known altarpiece with the Resurrection by Adolph Tidemand has been copied in many other churches within Norway. The beautiful carillon has 35 bells.

The manor house at Gulskogen was erected in the Louis XVI style in 1804. The house contains the original furnishings that belonged to several generations of the Arbo family. The painter Peter Nikolai Arbo had his childhood here, and there are several paintings made by him in the main building. The Gulskogen Park is patterned after an 18th Century European model. Especialy the long alley of lime is quite impressing. The maze in the park is the only one of its kind in Norway. Peacocks and other animals wander freely around the formal garden.
Gulskogen manor is very old and they have managed to remain the looks and garden from that time! The house itself is beautiful, but the park is the best. Big areas of green with pathways, founatins and trees. Two small ponds with ducks in which loves visist and hopes for food. And if you're lucky maybe the peacocks are outside for a visit! They are not so fond of people, but wanders around and looks for some food. If you're really lucky, they might just run by you. They also have a labyrinth in the summertime, a good old fashioned one!

It's a great place to go skating on a mild winter day. There are seats for changing from boots to skates which makes it convenient.
We did, however, hope to borrow skate-assistance for our kids as we have used that elsewhere with great success (penguins to lean on) but they do not have these available. Anyway, lovely facility for winter sports on ice!

Papirbredden is a very relaxing place to visit, have a meal in Cafe Papirbredden, read a bit in the library, visit Norli the book shop, all adds to the quality experience. Then walk on to Ypsalon bridge in the evening and enjoy the amazing lights and glass lighting up the evening sky...magical :-)

Found a small bar for a drink and a snack filled with local friendly people who engaged in talks with us wanting to learn all about the UK must say they found it hard to understand our accent but we got by. A place worth a visit if you are in this locality.Done a little part exchange with some of the locals and acquired some really nice shell fish. Will return there again when we are in that neck of the woods again. Dont pass it by
