The geographical heart of England, Birmingham started life as a sixth- century Anglo-Saxon village. Today, much of this city of over a million dates back to post-WWII redevelopment in the 1950s and 60s. Cutting edge museums and galleries, innovative theaters and excellent shopping have contributed to Birmingham's appeal as a weekend break destination. Don't miss the hopping bars and cafes of Gas Street Basin or the fascinating creatures at the National Sea Life Centre.

We went to Purnell’s for lunch and we opted to have the tasting menu called “A Purnell’s journey” with the accompanying wine flight. Prior to the meal we had a relaxing aperitif. The waiting staff were friendly and accommodating, and the sommelier enjoyed passing on his expertise, particularly about the unique Krug Champagne. The food delivered to the high expectations we had, and we very much enjoyed trying the Great British Menu Monkfish masala. Trying a Great British Menu winning dish was a first for us. All in all an excellent lunchtime choice.

Food was amazing, it's very quiet in there which I don't mind. Service was good to but definitely recommend the butter chicken to everyone, it's the best one I've had so far. We also tried the mix grill which was lovely and only had water to drink.

It all started in 1984 when our father Mr Ditta setup the Royal Watan Kashmiri Restaurant on the Pershore Road. He kept an emphasis on good homemade food. Since the 80's we have established ourselves as one of Birmingham's most established BALTI Restaurant . Being in the industry for over 30 years, we have committed to using the freshest & finest ingredients to create authentic & tasty Kashmiri food. The commitment & desire is what keeps us striving for perfection in our cuisine. We hope that our passion can be seen , felt & tasted in every dish we prepare at the Royal Watan Kashmiri Restaurant.
Got introduced to this place nearly 30 years ago when balti was a new experience for me. Travelled here from Redditch ever since, even though there are many balti curry houses everywhere nowadays, we still travel to this one. Used to come here when cutlery was optional and balti was eaten with the naan. It is a much more up market dining experience nowadays.
The quality of food, staff knowledge and service has always stayed the same excellent standard.
Father has passed it over to son now but the experience is still great.
Havent been for a year due to wife's health, but we went yesterday as she is in recovery and it was my birthday, even after a year away, I was greeted by name, my Mrs was greeted and her improving health was commented on, and my order was remembered verbatim even down to the fact that I like my naan thick.
They even treated me to a birthday pudding with sparkler which was totally unexpected and really appreciated.
We had a chat on the way out about cars as they even remember what car I drive.
Cannot fault the place. My biggest regret is that I still dont know the owners name, how embarrassing, He was a child when I started going there, and he knows me so well that its now awkward to ask him his name :-(

Food quality usually good but hit and miss of late and becoming victim of its own success. Last three orders had something missing and/or incorrect item and on 2 occasions promise of Delivery in 45-60 mins turned into 2 hours. Staff can also be argumentative...MoreHi, Sorry to hear about the bad experience you had from Golden Balti, but I assure you that this will not happen again. If you can call in and ask for Raf, it will be my pleasure to sort things out... Raf

I recently moved to the area and thought I would try the local takeaway. The best chips I have ever had. To say the staff and the manager is friendly is an understatement. The fish is great, chicken is brilliant and not greasy at all, which is common with chip ship sf chicken. Do yourself a favour and treat yourself.

A small friendly independent restaurant offering excellent a variety of quality food including our well reviewed "Full English Breakfast"
Went here with a friend before catching the train back to London last week. I ordered a Full English, he ordered the veggie equivalent. Have to say, the gentleman with the moustache who served us, with the moustache (I think he was the manager) has to be one of the most pleasant servers I can remember. A lot of waiting staff in expensive restraunts should be taught by him. Food itself was very, very good. Everything tasted fresh and of very high quality. Only thing, perhaps too much toast- but for most people that's probably not a complaint. Also due to popularity, Seating is at a premium- we were just lucky enough to arrive when people were leaving. Overall a brilliant find
