Farewell Spit Eco Tours began in 1946 as the mail Delivery to the lighthouse keepers on Farewell spit. Farewell Spit is a nature reserve and bird sanctuary. Summer home to wading birds from the Arctic and also a growing Gannet colony near the end. Our hand picked local guides love to share their knowledge with people from all over the world, many of whom return on subsequent visits to our country.
Always looking for a bargain I was concerned about the cost of a his tour, however as it turned out it was really enjoyable and money well spent. We had a fun and informative driver/guide, Elaine, I’m sure she’s related to the Topp Twins, who entertained us through the journey. Although 6 and a half hours, there are 4 main stops - cape Farewell - fossick beach - the lighthouse tea rooms and for desert the huge remote sand dunes. The main enjoyment for me was to go to a place where no one else goes.
All up a well orchestrated tour. Good job Eco Tours.

The Langford Store is nestled in the heart of the Aorere valley, on the way to the Heaphy Track. This Historic General Store & Post Office has been providing essentials to the Bainham community and travellers since 1928. Enjoy a pot of tea or an espresso coffee, served with sublime sweet treats. Browse the Storeroom Art Gallery or find yourself a treasure on the old shelves of the store.
This charming store is a local store, museum and tea-shop all-in-one. We enjoyed a very nice hot drink here served cheerfully by the helpful assistant, and also enjoyed a look around at a lot of historic and heritage items that are on display here.
Well worth stopping by if you are passing.

We visited this little chocolate 'factory' hoping to see the production line working. Unfortunately only the shop was open but we were able to see the finished chocolate range and purchase anything we fancied. We each bought a large chocolate bar and thoroughly enjoyed them - they were delicious. So if you are into sweet treats, I can recommend Rosy Glow but otherwise give it a miss.

Farewell Spit Nature Experiences provides high quality nature tours. Its your chance to see another world and to visit some of New Zealand's most remote and spectacular locations
Even more than the beautiful landscape itself, we enjoyed the information given by our tour guide (Tony?). He was able to provide detailed accounts of animal life, sand formations, local history and more. His expertise as a guide and driver made the experience worthwhile.

Anton Donaldson runs New Zealand Trout Adventures a guided fly fishing business based in beautiful Golden Bay. Anton specialises in sight fishing for large hard fighting brown trout in the Nelson, Golden bay and West Coast regions.Golden bay is New Zealand’s best-kept fly fishing secret.
I had 3 fabulous days of banter, laughter and great fishing with Anton. Do yourself a favour and look him up if your in his neck of the woods. He is an excellent guide and tailors his approach to suit his clients very well.
We caught some nice fish too....the largest being an 11 lb brown trout sight fished on a dry fly...truly my fish of a lifetime!

"Just the right place for people with a little more experience with horses and riding" Beach trails, off road trails, vaulting and cart rides with well trained horses. from 2 hours to overnighters all over Golden Bay. Farm stay for horses and rider. Hack'n Stay is dedicated to those who want to enjoy the simple things in life. Enjoy time with one of our horses or bring your own hack. Take a sulky ride along the beach. Ride bare back along the golden sands. Swim with the horses on many crystal clear waters or try vaulting. Hacktivities off the beaten track.
I did a 1.5 hr trek with my two sons aged 11 and 8. Barbarel and her staff couldn't have been more welcoming of our family, encouraging the boys to brush and get to know the horses before saddling up and even popping a helmet on our 3 year old daughter and taking her for a little ride down the drive (including a few vaulting moves) before we set out.
The trek went over beautiful farm land down to Paton's Beach. What really set this ride apart was that Barbarel started talking about what we should be doing with our minds and bodies to communicate with the horses from the minute she met us and didn't stop til we dismounted. I learnt so much in that 1.5 hrs. We were so impressed that I am seriously considering coming back for a multi day ride.
Thanks for a wonderful morning!

Hans uses clay and fire to create unique award-winning pottery with impressive glazes.
Have visited this Pottery on several occasions - now own several large pieces.
Excellent glazing, shapes with well presented showroom after typical pottery walk past all shapes & sizes
Highly recommend taking the drive out to this talented potters workshop
