Brewery/bar/cafe/music venue<br>Closed late July til early September
We dined twice during a few days’ stay in the area, and the second time it was because we couldn’t get in anywhere else. Seating is very casual and mostly outside or nearly so. Food was OK and service was good. Nice own brew beers.

As the name implies the Old School Cafe Restuarant and Bar was the house of learning for the children of Pakawau. The school closed in the 80s and the cafe was set up some 20 years ago and remains as a focal point for the locals and holiday makers in the area. With the beautiful Pakawau beach and camp ground across the road the Old School makes for a perfect desination, whether it be for coffee to start your day thru to a great lunch or evening meal off the black board menu. Fully licensed we have a great range of wines, beers and spirits to suit all tastes. With indoor and outdoor dining, pool table, dart board, and large expansive Gardens we know you will have a great time.Go where the locals go.
We reserved a table at short notice and really enjoyed the evening. The staff were friendly and efficient. Our food arrived in an acceptable time. The portions were ample and the food tasted good. Facilities were clean and modern.

We waited over 50 minutes for our food. In mean time everyone who came in and ordered takeaway got their food within 10 minutes..from the way they taled to the staff, they were clearly locals...so tourists come last here. When the food finally arrived it was inedible..the sweet and sour pORK looked like dog barf on rice and it tasted awful. The roast chicken was chewy and tasteless....there is No service..you order at the bar and are given a beeper which goes off when food is ready.....tables are not cleared ..the outside tables were a mad a scene with gulls fighting over left overs...on Mondays nights in Collingwood this is the only place open but you are better off to go hungry than eat here...which is what we did after paying 40+ nzd for slop....AVOID AT ALL COSTS....have been doing ta reviews for many years and this is the most negative I have written...but then again it was the worse food and service I have received.

The Courthouse Cafe is open 6 days a week, from 8am-4pm. Closed Wednesdays. Open Thursday and Saturday nights from 5-8pm for Takeaway Gourmet Pizzas.
Went to the Courthouse last Sunday with friends after a day of seeing lots of sights in Golden Bay. We had a lovely meal. Excellent pizzas and a beautiful salad. The staff are attentative and I just love the building. A landmark in Collingwood. Highly recommended!

We stopped at this cafe for a light breakfast on our way to Farewell Spit. The views of Farewell Spit are fantastic the cafe is not. It seems to be run by teenagers, who’d rather chat than serve. As I have dietary issues I asked for a cup of hot water with lemon and two poached eggs on plain toast. They did not have any lemons and after much discussion as to why I couldn’t “Just have the breakfast, it comes with poached eggs.” they agreed to cook me the eggs and toast. I wish I hadn’t bothered. The toast was thin and limp. The eggs were the worst I’ve ever been served, most of the whites were still runny. At this point I just gave up and left. I walk up to the view point above the cafe to view Farewell Spit and the surrounding countryside was worth the climb and dodging the sheep.

What a fantastic surprise - this place is so worth more than one visit.
Locally sustainable produce cooked with skill and care. Probably the most inventive menu in Golden Bay. From Hare cooked Kentucky style to an absolutely sumptuous laksa.
They prep their own olives - who knew that cardamom and thyme went together with olives (only two of the ingredients identified in the mix) but they do!!!
The kimchi is also fantastic. Made with local organic ginger chilli and cabbage. Sublime.
