They offer a la carte and self service food, inside and outside. There is a nice playground for the kids as well. Interesting hamburgers (localised with different cheeses and ingredients) as well as pizzas, Flammkuchen, etc. Can recommend as a stop after the visit of the gorge.

Nice and quite location next to registration for cycling race. The staff was nice. Here is possible to sit in comfortable chairs. The coffee was good and it was first time in Switzerland where I got water to coffee:-)

Went here for lunch with my family during a ski trip. Very disappointing experience. Unwelcoming and unfriendly staff. There are better much alternatives in the immediate area - for example Hexenkässel.

We had a very delicious light dinner here one evening during our stay in Meiringen. The food and service were very good and there is both indoor and outdoor Seating. Prices very typical of Switzerland.

If you’re staying near either the Brienzersee (Brienz Lake) or the Thunersee (Thun Lake), most day trips to high elevations will begin at Interlaken, which offers ready access to some truly spectacular Alpine destinations, including Jungfrau, Schilthorn, and First. In this respect Planplatten is a bit off the beaten track, as it requires a trip to Meiringen, about 7.5 miles east of Brienz, and then a reasonably long (unmarked) walk from the train station to the cable cars. But it is a trip well worth the effort.
Perched on a ledge that falls away precipitously on both sides, the Alpen Tower Planplatten is tiny, but what a spot! At ‘only’ ~7400 feet, Planplatten resides at an elevation similar to Rothorn or First, far short of the stratospheric heights of Jungfrau or Schilthorn, but the dramatic relief of the terrain surrounding the Alpen Tower makes for vistas that are nothing short of breathtaking. And one benefit of its out-of-the-way location is that the Alpen Tower tends not to be crowded, a far cry from the madness that typifies Jungfraujoch.
From a strictly culinary perspective, the restaurant at the Alpen Tower Planplatten was far better than those at Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn, and as an added treat, it didn’t revolve! The food at the Alpen Tower was excellent, the wine list was extensive, and the desserts- all based on meringue, of course- were memorable. But mostly I remember the views- majestic peaks soaring into the heavens on all sides; tiny Alpine villages in the distance far, far below.
The Alpen Tower Planplatten is a spectacular day trip that doesn’t require an ascent to uncomfortable elevations. Highly recommended.

Met friends in Meiringen and needed a nice restaurant to catch up. We were made very welcome, despite arriving before the kitchens were open and they were very accommodating as one of our party required a special meal. We went for the Farmers Rosti which was devine and I would highly recommend this restaurant for its food, ambience and lovely staff.

Cozy inn in the Bernese chalet style. Rustic kitchen with local, seasonal specialties. Newly renovated rooms and apartments.
We had a group of 6 and had a lovely fondue dinner. However, we should have specified only one fondue pot as that was plenty for our group - they brought us 2 and we really only ate one. Authentic Swiss experience with friendly, attentive service.

Worth trying the huge "signature dish" meringue here. It's your classic local Swiss cafe- styling from the 70s but the history of the meringue gives it a nice feel. Adjoining bakery for all your healthy purchases!

I arrived late at night after having checked some restaurants which were already closed. The waiter (a indian student of a well-known hospitality management school) took the time and advised me well, although time was even short. The Peking duck I ordered was tasting good (the sauce makes the difference, I was told). Afterwards I was welcomed by the receptionist lady who was very interested in my well-being and took the time to chat. Though I already paid the bill (reasonable price) and closing was short, I was even offered a coffee, tea or Prosecco.
Cuisine is asian (chinese, vietnamese, thai), as well as the staff. Location on the main walk Promenade.
To be recommended.

You know the food is good when the locals eat there. We have visited here several times over many years. The owners may not recognize us, but we know them, and we are welcomed. Whatever we order is always good, and there is a variety of fresh choices. It is located up the hill from town on the way to the mountain pass.
