This gorge is quite an experience. A walk-through cut in the mountain with walkways and tunnels along the face of the rocks and through in places. Very new to see. Seems not all that well advertised but quite impressive - by far! Well worth stopping here if you are in the area. It is about 1.4km to walk from one end to the other. The cost is very reasonable with gift shops and washrooms at both ends and you can enter from either end as well.
We were there in August, so it was pleasant and warm throughout the walk. A lot of work went into designing this experience - all the structures to walk on built into the rock face. Very neat! Free parking.

This 656-foot waterfall is best known for its fictional significance as the place of Sherlock Holmes's death.
We went at the end of July 2017, after heavy rain for a few days, and the falls were really, really impressive. You squeeze up the side of them, following a perfectly safe, but narrow pathway hewn out of the gorge's walls, directly above the roaring River and, before you get to the top, it becomes so loud that you can't hear each other, and the spray is such that it comes vertically up due to the power of the water Torrent below. And then, at the top, you come out not far from the gorgeous Rosenlaui valley and hotel, both of which are well worth visiting in their own right.

A museum dedicated to the famous fictional detective.
The museum is in a building resembling a small church, about 2-3 minutes walk from the railway station. It is very small, not able to take more than about 5-6 at a time. The audio guide has a very interesting and informative commentary. Apart from the introduction, which is on the ground floor, the museum itself is down a short spiral staircase.
It is only open in the afternoons, 1.30-6.30 I seem to recall. If you have a Meiringen tourist card it is free, and the audio guide is included in the price.

This is a great site to visit if you are interested in history. The tower is pretty well preserved outwardly, inside the floors and roof are gone but there are stairs to the rooftop and information panels on each floor explaining the site.
This is free entrance open at all times of the day and is so a great budget attraction!
There are other ruined Castles in the area too; Unspunnen, Rothenfluh and Weissenau they are all free to access, a rarity in Switzerland!

Heerlijk zwembad!

Paragliding - the easiest way to fly like an eagle. Fly as a passenger on our tandem-paraglider. We welcome all from 4 to 80 and we fly all year round!
I just finished a week of flying in Verbier and my wife and I were now staying in Meiringen to do some hiking. I was also going to try and get a flight in this area and was told to check out the Interlaken area, however it seemed really crowded in the air in the Interlaken area because of the prosperous tandem businesses.
The Airbnb owner of the place we were staying at recommended a local business to fly with instead of going back to Interlaken. The owners of Birdwing were super nice and spoke English. I accompanied them to the launch site and they gave a good briefing and provided a radio, they also double check you before launch. Launch is at 7,300 feet and landing at 2,270 so even a sled ride is 20 minutes, however there is definitely thermal and ridge soaring opportunities.
The cost was very reasonable and their are great views of the Eiger and Mönch.
I would definitely go back the Bird wing paragliding!

Mi son fermato per un attimo di riposo sulla terrazza a bermi un bicchiere di vino bianco.
Personale molto gentile e locale ben tenuto.
Un cordiale buongiorno all'arrivo e un saluto alla partenza.
Posticino carino.
