Janosikove Diery

Janosikove Diery Gorge is one of the most beautiful hiking trails not only within National Park Mala Fatra, but the whole Slovakia and Central Europe. It is located in nature reservation Rozsutce and the valley river is forming numerous Waterfalls and rocky formations. The hiking in this valley is possible via imposant wooden Bridges and ladders.

Nice trip for whole family. Anybody from 3 till .., Just really not for very small kinds and elderly, handicaped - you have to climbed some large stones. Nice views from hills above the place. Facilities as parking, restaurants, bistro all there. Nature wonderful.

A real monument with great works of art: the alter pieces with wings. The church pews are interesting too. Climbing the tower is a treat, because you can see the entire square - one of the most beautiful of the Chech and Slovak Republics.

Cathedral of St. Elizabeth (Dom svatej Alzbety)

Church or mosque, I always think dusk is a really atmospheric time to visit. I was there for the evening service and then again next morning, where I saw the longest queue for Confession I've ever seen anywhere. A plain but attractive interior and great acoustice. In my view, though, the real jewel is the outside of the Cathedral

It is just paradice as it is in it's name. Beautifull nature, I recommend to start early in the morning, around 7:00, to enjoy the nature without many people. I am returning there for 15 years, and it is definitelly worth it :).

Tatras National Park

Slovakia's first national park features dozens of species of plants of animals.

The Slovakian part of the Tatra National Park is by far better organized than the Polish part. There is a train that connects towns such as Tatranska Lomnica, Stary Smokovec and Strbske Pleso in case you start your trail in one place and end in another. The trails are mostly well kept, clean and well signed, and most of the Valleys have a mountain chalet in which you can hide from the rain or have some snack or lunch, and you can even sleep there. Some trails are suitable for everybody and some others are more challenging, the most difficult ones have chains for support. I recommend good mountain shoes (some trails get muddy or slippery during rain), a raincoat and a sweater (in case of a weather change, and it changes rather quickly in the mountains). I think the best time to visit the park is either June or September, the peak season is in July and August so it's usually quite crowded. The entrance to the park is free of charge, but most cable cars are quite expensive (we went, for instance, to Skalnate Pleso and it was 16 € per person). The car parks cost about 5,5 € per day, and there is (at least was in August 2017) a free car park in Tatranska Lomnica right by the cable car to the Skalnate Pleso.

Spissky Castle

This imposing 12th-century fortress was one of the few Castles that resisted the Mongol attacks of 1241, gradually enlarged over the centuries and destroyed by fire in 1780.

This castle seems to be worth a drive (and small climb) to see it. Also the view from the top of the castle is very nice. A place to enjoy a few hours. It may be a bit difficult to climb inside the castle- so take this into consideration.

Demanovska Cave of Liberty

Reviewed By Tinde_K - Moscow, Russia

Caves are natural treasure of Slovakia and if you're skiing in nearby Jasna resort, go and see this one. The tour takes about one hour and the interior decorations of the caves are beautiful. It's a short hike from the parking lot to the cave entrance, so plan some time reserve before the time of your visit and check cave schedule for tour times.
