The JMSDF Museum at Kure exhibits the Submarine and minesweeper from the Navy and is run by the SDF - Self Defense force.
There are many displays in the museum and information and pictorial representation of the marine technologies especially mine sweeping.
This is located right besides the YouMe shopping mall just outside the JR Kure station.
There is a recently retires submarine on display and the interiors of the submarine are open to the visitors for glimpses.

The museum includes a historical summary of the second world war with focus on Japan navy, many small models of ships of all categories, 1:10 model of Yamato battleship, cinema presenting wreckage of Yamato at the bottom of the ocean, and exposition of shells, Zero aircraft, submarine prototype and many more. Many texts are available in English also. Worth-it visit for all people interested in war technology, especially with other museum located nearby.
Also, nice Promenade around the museum with 1:1 representation of Yamato deck.

You can see some naval ships incuding submarines even through the bus window so unless you have plenty time to kill or you want to take pictures, not necessary to get off the local bus. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, Kure loop bus leaves Kure JR Station and comes back.If you do not get off, you pay only USD1.60 per one ride. On week days, if you get off USD4 would be needed.

All the buildings in Mitarai - a former busy Edo-era harbor town - have been preserved and listed as a Japanese heritage site. The locals are very friendly and just by walking its streets, you can feel the history of the place. The island setting is also really unique. There are lovely golden sandy Beaches nearby (quite rare - as most Beaches in Japan have volcanic grey sand...) and the Mountains are covered in orange and lemon trees. During the mikan orange season, there are small stalls in the street selling freshly picked mikan oranges for about a third of the price they would cost anywhere else. 200 yen for a bag...! The taste of the oranges is also out of this world. The sea, the Beaches and the climate, it feels like a Mediterranean island with very old traditional Japanese houses...!

The main attraction in this place is the house of Japan Marine Commander in Kure. The house is unique because the front sidenis western style but the rear sude is Japanese style. There is also precious original Japanese wallpaper in there

Basically a passenger terminal for ships. Some convenience shops and places to eat inside. A little 1-room museum on the city's history. Lots of travel and trip information if you are interested in taking a tour. An interesting place to stick your head in, even if you don't plan on staying.

It's a nice walk up or a quick drive to this viewing point where you get a panoramic view of the island chain and the coast of Shikoku. Best to avoid on rainy days or bad weather though! The walk up to the park past orange groves is interesting in itself...!

ちょっとわかりづらいところにありますが、名前のとおり高い場所にありますので、呉の町並みを見渡すことができます。自衛隊ドックや造船場など一望できます。
