We had the best time today. I have still got the biggest smile on my face. The scenery is amazing and the knowledge of the area is superb! Loved all the bumps and couldn’t stop laughing. Best birthday activity so far! Worth the drive from...MoreThank you What a superb group we beat the weather and laughed all the way, coming all the way from Hobart just to tour with us is a bit special thanks. I hope the rest of your afternoon was pretty good. Cheers Ian

What a great show. Finished off the tale we had heard whilst visiting Sarah Island. Be prepared to participate as there are only 2 people who perform. Loved the fact they supply blankets and cushions to sit on, whilst it is undercover you are still exposed to the breezes some what.

Cruise the Gordon River with the local family owned and operated World Heritage Cruises.Cruises depart Strahan daily at 9am. Attractions include, Hells Gates, Atlantic salmon fish farms,Sarah Island Guided Tour, The Gordon River rainforest boardwalk and a Huon pine sawmill.
We were blessed with blue skies today but would have enjoyed ourselves regardless of he weather. The staff were knowledgable and entertaining with commentary at times, and at others we were left to enjoy the scenery in silence. We purchased gold class tickets and had great seats- although if I had paid for the best tickets and hadn’t gotten a window seat I would have been disappointed.
The food and coffee were very good (espresso machine with someone who knew how to drive it). I also like that this is a locally owned, family business
The on shore excursions were informative and beautiful.
We breathed the cleanest air in the world today!

Gordon River Cruises is an award winning Wilderness experience in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Departing from Strahan on Tasmania's west coast, Gordon River Cruises offers half day cruises on the Gordon River aboard its sleek, purpose built tour vessel.
Paid more for Captains Deck definitely worth it with angled seats for great viewing out the window, stow away table, excellent service by friendly staff (like being in Business Class on a plane), good food & drinks on top of magnificent scenery of the Gordon River. It was a wet day but still very enjoyable. Excellent commentary on Sarah island by Michael (I think that was his name) who was humorous & engaging.

Indulge in local produce, watch the modern day workings of the locomotives, stroll through the rainforest, or simply relax and enjoy the motion of the train. The West Coast Wilderness Railway experience has something to offer everyone. With a range of full day and half day steam train experiences, departing from both Queenstown Station and the historic harbourside Regatta Point Station in Strahan, there is a journey to suit everyone. Discover the enchanting Gondwana rainforest - still home to the ancient Huon pine - from the comfort of your carriage, or the many opportunities to disembark at the outlying stations and explore at your own pace. Book today and let us welcome you onboard.
I thought the trip we had which was the full day trip was good though the trip back seemed very long..Not a trip for small kids...I do think for the price in the heritage carriage there should have been complimentary water/ tea or coffee supplied bit disappointing..also more impact of the environment due to mining in the commentary would of made it more informative in my opinion..The river is essentially dead despite being very pretty..however interesting day Carriages maintained very well and nice staff.

Slight uphill walk through rainforest to the falls. Wear appropriate footwear as path is slippery with pools of water/mud also. Platypus can be viewed at times but due to heavy rain prior to our walk we weren’t so lucky. Approximately 40 minute return walk.

This excellent tourist center gives you a dose of local history and helps direct you to the options you have for exploring the area, including scenic flights, harbor cruises and train rides.
This information centre on the wharf in the middle of town is staffed by very helpful and friendly staff who are knowledgeable about the area and it’s attractions. All advise is given with a smile. This is also where you can purchase tickets to “The Ship that Never Was” play that is performed next door. Plenty of parking available around the centre as well.

A family owned and operated sawmill specialising in Huon Pine and other unique Tasmanian timbers. Owned by the Morrison family for 4 generations. Open daily. Free entry. A talk and demonstration is held each day at approximately 3pm, please be at the mill by 2.45pm so you do not miss out! Photo display and DVD playing throughout the day. Sales include...chopping boards, coasters, turning blanks, table/bar tops, local wood turner and lots of other items. Please note we are a cash only business, no credit card/eftpos facilities are available. Everyone welcome.
We walked past the outside the day before and remarked how uninspiring it looked......but when we went inside after the Heritage Cruise we were amazed how it looked inside. Interesting pieces made from beautiful timbers especially Huon Pine and after the Heritage Cruise where we were taught a lot about this magnificent timber this shop took on a new dimension. You won’t be able to resist a souvenir.

It's my 1st visit to Strahan and I must say this trip is great introduction to the fun aspects of this lovely town. Trip was professionally conducted, fun and eye-opener (especially to see wild penguins). The naming of the cute little penguins liven up the trip and the finger food was excellent. The beautiful scenery along the cruise is already a nice bonus to the Bonnet Island experience.
Great eco-conscious with the red filtered torch a so as not spoil the penguins eyes sealed my respect for the company ethos... Awesome ! enjoy ..it's a lovely event.
