This is a great place to spend a couple of hours - shopping, eating, relaxing. There is something for everyone here from a chocolate and wine shop to linens and ironwork! Children's play area, a toy train, pizza restaurant, coffee shop. I just shopped and had a coffee. But it was very relaxing just wandering between the shops. Well placed right on the side of the R103.

Having never visited Abingdon before I had pretty low expectations. Those were quickly dispelled as Ian and Jane Smorthwaite run an excellent estate and restaurant. We had a wine tasting prior to lunch, by Ian with his fellow wine maker and lovely daughter, Laurie, also chipping in with interesting tit bits, and at R15 per wine I thought it a little steep. However, the wines are exceptional and the tasting volumes are more than adequate. Sadly there were no Abingdon reds to be tasted as last year's vintage was sold out. I took this as a good sign.
Lunch was alfresco and while portion sizes looked small initially, everyone was filled up beyond comfort at the end of the meal. Don't be fooled by what may appear to be modest portions as the food was deliciously prepared by Jame in the kitchen and was more than enough to sate even a big fella like myself. Lunch was accompanied by this year's Blanc de Blanc sparkling wine which was so delicious that when I celebrated my 50th two months later I sourced the bubbles from them.

A lovely shop that you can browse in for a while. If you are looking for gifts then this is the place that will fulfill your shopping needs. There are lovely items with a range of prices for all tastes. Just be warned though that you will have a hard time choosing what to leave behind as I am certain you will be like me and want to purchase a sample of each item in the shop.

Monsoon Moon is located on the R103 just across the Junction Complex in Nottingham Road. The goods on display are the same as the other branches little treasures. They have very unique, different and beautiful imported wooden tables and chairs and a wide variety of cabinets as well as quirky signs, quirky figures in all shapes and sizes, carpets and stunning door knobs in different sizes to name a drop in the bucket.
They have a newly opened small store on the R103 just opposite Peters Gate Herbal Centre in Balgowan (Uggly Duckling).
They have a big branch in the Central Berg (Champagne Valley) in the Cedarwood Complex on the R600 from Winterton opposite Champagne Sports Resort. We go to the Drakensberg at least once a year and every year I find that special Christmas gift for my husband at Uggly Duckling.
Note that no photo's can be taken from the goods on display.

Zawadi sells imported and locally produced African products. Their range includes Tanzanite bracelets, Crockery, African fabrics, mens, ladies and kids wear, Kikoi, craft tea and coffee, gifts and Decor. It is arguably the most beautiful shop on the Midlands Meander.
The service and product quality is second to none. A must visit.

We booked a lunch and wine tasting here to celebrate a birthday. The wine was not good and their tasting left a lot to be desired. The menu was very simple i.e. toasted sandwiches. Certainly nothing close to the standards that the Cape offers when it comes to Wine tasting. All their wine, including the reds were served straight out of the fridge and their staff did not provide any information about the wine, they just poured and told us which wine we were tasting. The experience was so poor that it was comical.
I can however highly recommend the horseback ride that my daughter and I did on the estate. They agreed to take my 4yr old daughter on a lead reign for the whole outride. We only walked as she has no experience whatsoever but the horse, Toffee, was the sweetest little pony and Lucky, the guide even took her off the reign for a bit and let her walk on her own. The estate dogs also joined us for a walk which was lovely. We saw a bit of wildlife including Caracal which was a real treat. It was an hour of absolute bliss for my daughter. The cost of the ride was also very reasonable compared to other places that offer the same experience. We will definitely be back for the horse riding but not the wine.
