Access to the Mirador is strictly controlled. You can book a car park pass (free) on the Internet (places are quite limited). There are great views of the Caldera from the car park area and you can also walk quite a bit further if you wear sensible footwear. (Flip flops and sandals should stay in the car park area!).
Book an hour if you just want the views, but longer if walking. There are good Mountains walks from both ends of the car park.
The silence is unbelievable and the restricted access means there is plenty of space.
Don't forget your water. Refreshments are not available up there.
Booking a place may seem inconvenient, but it is worth it. You don't get the car parking issues experienced at Roque de Los Muchachos (and the views are very different).

We visited Palmex today...and we simply loved it. We arrived late in the afternoon and were afraid it was already closed...instead we got a very warm welcome. I would absolutely recommend a visit to this garden. Entrance fee is not fixed...you can give whatever you want to. The owners were very nice people and the atmosphere was just great!!!

Easily located but the road is a little windy and you can experience many different types of weather on the way.
The site has plenty of parking and is well set up for visitors but the routes were taped off for some reason, the weather was pretty rubbish today up there so I'm guessing the terrain isn't good enough for going off hiking today.
We did see one couple heading off but they were dressed for Armageddon so good luck to them.
What was amazing was just 500m further along the landscape changed dramatically from pine forest to black gravel and short shrubs, if you have a car just drive this road it's so interesting and the views amazing (low cloud permitting )

Ad Astra is a latin locution that means "to the stars". Our purpose is to honor this name, bringing Astronomy closer to the general public in a pleasant and an entertaining way. Our company has a team of Starlight Guides and Astronomers with a broad experience in scientific popularization. We have advanced and powerful astronomical telescopes for Moon, planet and deep-sky object observation, such as nebulae, star clusters and galaxies. Additionally, we have an astronomical laser pointer and multimedia resources to identify the main constellations, and special filters to watch solar surface phenomena (sunspots, filaments and prominences). We will take you to the borders of the Universe on a fascinating journey where you will discover the mysteries of the Cosmos. We will answer all your questions, doubts and curiosities about Astronomy. What are you waiting for?
A great evening, using a telescope to view planets and stars. Elena, our astronomer, is hugely knowledgeable. She guided us through the various planets and stars visible on our evening with her. Visibility can vary, so there were several possible meeting points to ensure the best possible view. We ended with a wonderful view of the moon, magnified so that we could see the ridges and crinkles of its surface. Booking essential. Take warm clothes, even in summer.

You start by seeing a video about silk production and the various processes involved. Then a 'walk-through' history and examples of garments produced around the world through the centuries. And finally ladies at the looms weaving the silk. Luckily for us one of them spoke reasonable English and was able to explain in more detail the techniques involved. Having seen it all, we understand why silk is so expensive. There's a small shop where you can buy a souvenir or two if you want. Overall a fascinating and informative place to visit

This review is for a couple of lunches I had here during my stay on the edge of El Paso with my family. My first visit was for my first lunch of my stay and the next half way through my week there. Both times we shared a range of tapas dishes between us for lunch. The selection for vegetarians is not that extensive, however this is made up for by the excellent quality of the dishes they do provide that are vegetarian. The meat eaters of the party also seemed very happy with their carnivore dishes.
The location is lovely, being in the square next to a small church, being in a bit of a sun trap. During our visit it was unseasonably cold so we sat in the sun but in the summer they do have a large covered area to protect you from the midday sun. Service whilst not the speediest was very good, with the waiter and waitress chatting to my La Palma raised sister in law and being very helpful to suggest what was good for vegies. The bill when it arrived was very reasonable and the portions were generous and good value. I would recommend this place for a good value lunch. I expect in the summer though it get very busy so I would advise getting there early for lunch,

This is a mini, but fully functional, Observatory built by a retired and very knowledgeable engineer. Visit sizes are limited by the size of the Observatory and there is lots of scope to discuss astronomy, planet formation, star lifecycle, physics, asteroids, supporting IT and much more. And he'll attach his Canon to the scope and take and process a photo just for you.
Make sure you have a SatNav. You'll leave at about midnight and it's not on the main drag.
