Glenrothes ( listen (help·info); /ɡlɛnˈrɒθɪs/, glen-ROTH-iss; Scottish Gaelic: Gleann Ràthais) is a town situated in the heart of Fife, in east-central Scotland. It is located approximately 30 miles (48 km) from both Edinburgh, which lies to the south and Dundee to the north. The town had a population of 39,277 in 2011 as recorded by the census, making it the third largest settlement in Fife and the 18th most populous settlement in Scotland. The name Glenrothes comes from its historical link with the Earl of Rothes who owned much of the land upon which the new town has been built; "Glen" (Scottish for valley) was added to the name to avoid confusion with Rothes in Moray and in recognition that the town lies in a river valley. The motto of Glenrothes is "Ex terra vis", meaning "From the earth strength", which dates back to the founding of the town.

The Fettykil Fox in Glenrothes is a country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.
I had been staying the night at the Holiday Inn Express next to Fettykil Fox and this was the ideal choice for my evening meal. We regularly visit the Snow Goose in Inverness which is part of the Vintage Inns group and so this encouraged...MoreDear Guest, Thank you very much for your kind words, it makes all of our hard work worth it. We look forward to welcoming you back soon, Kind Regards, Andy and the team

The Balbirnie Bistro, a charming and intimate great value restaurant, set within the original kitchens of Grade A Listed Balbirnie House. Our specialities are mussels, great burgers, salads, traditional and classic bistro favourites, steak frites, and sundaes.
I have been several times with family and friends as a couple and in small groups. The choice of menu is perfect, the service is friendly and professional. I love the setting of the old kitchen and this adds to the atmosphere. Never been disappointed in choice of food or wine. Hope to be back soon.

Very disappointed with our food we got last night. Service was good, phoned and ordered and collected- no issues. However, when we opened our tubs, both the chicken korma and tikka masala were like watery soup! .There was no thickness to the sauce at all and both of them had max 9 small pieces of chicken in them. Very disappointed in the view the price of each.

Visited here this Sunday morning with my wife, purely due to the great recommendations about their breakfasts on TripAdvisor, and we were not disappointed.
Breakfasts are served seven days a week from 10am until 12 noon.
Small breakfasts are £3.50, or the Mighty breakfasts are £4.50.
We opted for the Mighty breakfasts, and they were happy to change my wife's a little, as being a coeliac there were a couple of things she couldn't have, so she got an extra rasher of bacon and an extra fried egg instead.
In our view the Mighty breakfast is tremendous value for money in this day and age at £4.50. For this their normal (by normal I mean standard as in non-coeliac) portion consists of haggis, black pudding, bacon, tomatoes, beans, mushrooms, sausage, lorne sausage, tattie scone, fried egg, toast and a choice of tea or coffee.
Must also add that the chef, and the lady serving were both efficient, helpful and friendly.
Everything was faultless really, and we would have no hesitation in returning.

A traditional country pub with a warm and welcoming open fire . Bar is open on Friday's from 5pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 4pm. The PLough is now a drinks only pub, however we will occaisionally have promotions such as Quizzes or Fishy Friday. Kepp an eye on Facebook for upcoming events.
This is a smashing wee village pub/restaurant. Waitresses are efficient and friendly, nothing was too much bother. Good choice of wines and beer and good menu. Can recommend.

I can thoroughly recommend the chefs table! We went there for my Dads birthday treat and everyone really enjoyed the whole experience. The chefs Terence and Lucy were friendly and chatted with us and it was really interesting to watch them at work. Watching the frantic work to get meals out on time was facinating- like your very own "Masterchef"! The food was excellent and kids meals well very well received by my two as well -always makes any meal more relaxing if the kids are happy! The waitress Laura was friendly and chatted about the work of the kitchen, nothing was too much trouble and it was so nice to fell welcomed and treated so well. We will be back and Dad loved the meal and the whole experience -don't tell everyone or it will get too busy!!

Received a takeaway meal from the Jasmine on a Saturday evening, the Delivery was on time which was an hour and a half after I placed the order which shows how busy they must have been.
Ordered a set meal with two Puris, one Prawn and one Chicken, the chicken one was edible but the prawns were dried and shrivelled and the lot went straight in the bin.
Chicken Madras and Chicken Dopiaza mains were both disappointing due to the chicken being way over cooked & very chewy.
Chips went straight to the bin as they were just a bag of congealed cold greasy potatoes. Nan bread was cold and tough.
I have used the Jasmine on numerous occasions and have noticed recently that the quality is not what it used to be.
I may give them another chance in the future.. undecided at present.

ROOMS Five rooms all en suite one has a free standing bath in the room, all have spacious walk in showers en suite. Wooden floors with traditional rugs, walls all white, white wooden panelling, all beds king size. Apple tv/music/media system in rooms. USB and European sockets in rooms. Breakfast cooked fresh to order can be taken up to midday. Wi fi free throughout. RESTAURANT Inventive cooking with confident flavours and satisfying portions. We serve all day. Fantastic Coffee. Look/feel of the place is a cross between traditional Victorian dining room/Amsterdam cafe/French Brasserie. A local craft lager, Czech lager, local ale & German Weiss beer on tap. Proper cocktails and a small considered wine list. All sorts of food & drink for kids & high chairs - lots of shakes and smoothies. If you don't eat meat there is plenty of choice - way above the token pasta dish. You'll get a good welcome from us (and a bed for the night if you miss the last train home).
Can't fault the food which was as usual really good but sadly the service didn't match. The waitresses were very inattentive, didn't smile much and we felt almost a burden for being there. We were a large table with 3 young children. Not once did anyone acknowledge the fact it was a special birthday (my 30th) or take time to smile or speak to any of the kids. I chose banners over Balbirnie locally and now wish I hadn't!!
My in laws who are from out with the area commented on how the waiting staff barely cracked a smile. Sadly the usual girls we get in there weren't working and the atmosphere was totally different. Won't rush back after this experience.

I booked a table for four for a Sunday lunch at 12.30.
We arrived at 12.00.
Michelle and her staff was kind letting us into the restaurant half hour before the time. (before they opened) Misunderstanding from our side.
Our drinks order was taken and within a couple of minutes we had our drinks.
We then placed our food order.
All the dishes was freshly prepared and tasteful.
The chicken piri piri is still my favourite.
The restaurant was spotless clean and so was the toilet.
Highly recommended and we will go back.

Popped into this establishment whilst stopping in the local caravan site, it's a splendid little eatery. The service is first rate, the staff were helpful and extremely professional, the offer of a strawberry afternoon tea at a price less than what we'd planned was not to be missed. Good food in a very pleasant establishment at very reasonable prices, you cant ask for much more... And the coffee's very good!
