Top 10 Things to do in Glenrothes, United Kingdom (UK)

February 1, 2018 Joeann Galban

Glenrothes ( listen (help·info); /ɡlɛnˈrɒθɪs/, glen-ROTH-iss; Scottish Gaelic: Gleann Ràthais) is a town situated in the heart of Fife, in east-central Scotland. It is located approximately 30 miles (48 km) from both Edinburgh, which lies to the south and Dundee to the north. The town had a population of 39,277 in 2011 as recorded by the census, making it the third largest settlement in Fife and the 18th most populous settlement in Scotland. The name Glenrothes comes from its historical link with the Earl of Rothes who owned much of the land upon which the new town has been built; "Glen" (Scottish for valley) was added to the name to avoid confusion with Rothes in Moray and in recognition that the town lies in a river valley. The motto of Glenrothes is "Ex terra vis", meaning "From the earth strength", which dates back to the founding of the town.

Best experience ever! The place was easy to find, all the staff were friendly, knowledgable and sooo encouraging from beginning to end.
The jump itself was just an amazing experience. My instructor, Iain, was great fun and made sure I understood what was happening the whole time. The staff instilled such confidence in everyone taking part, so we could all just relax and enjoy the experience!
I would do it all again in a heartbeat!

Excellent show in the Rothes Halls, Glenrothes. Started at 7.30 and finished at 9.55 with a 15 min break.
Sang all the greatest hits plus many of the less well known but hugely popular songs.
Also had a large screen backdrop covering things of interest from the 60's
Audience gave them a terrific ovation at the end. Highly recommend you see the show if you like their music.
Oh and my ticket was only £19.50 incl booking fee.
Enjoy.

The Kino Cinema Glenrothes

Used to go to this cinema when I was a wee girland was so pleased when it was bought over and reopened. Used to go to the Odeon in Dunfermline before it opened but now always go to see the films at my local KINO, and is better than the LEVEN Kino. As reviewers have said, the seats are not the comfiest, especially in Screen 3, but either are the ones in the Odeon and you pay a hell of a lot more money there.
Good value for money, highly recommend...

I just saw the castle from the route and to stop there, even with an awful weather, was the best decision ever! The owner was sooo welcoming, he showed us everything about the Castle!! (I wish I could understood a bit better the scottish accent before going there) It was really amazing to be walking there, the rooms, the big hall, the stairs, to know part of Scottish history.

Was recommended to try this pub out for lunch and I wasn't disappointed. Portions were huge, food delicious and everything home cooked all served by a lovely waitress who was attentive and efficient. Menu was varied and I felt something was there to suit everyone. They also had a lovely selection of coffee. Place was spotless and I cant wait to go back - my favourite eating place at the moment.

Ken Hunter of Exploring Fife was recommended to us by our hotel, and thank goodness he was! We booked an 8 hour tour starting with Ken picking us up from the train station in Leuchars at 9;00am. Ken arranged the day so we could explore several villages along the seashore on the Firth of Fife while the weather was calm and sunny. We stopped to walk around now and then, seeing the beautiful little harbours and hearing about the history of each place from Ken. So much history, new and old, about the area, and sometimes just stopping to stare at the Isle of May and the firth itself. Ken is a terrific guide (even stopping so we could watch a young herding dog being put through her paces). At lunchtime, Ken recommended the Links at St. Andrew's which was delicious and surprisingly reasonable. Ken then took us for a walk around the Old Course at St. Andrew's pointing out the highlights (and the torturous parts) of the course too. We continued the tour visiting the town of St. Andrew's, the Cathedral ruins (amazing) and the Castle. Ken even "arranged' a fly-over by the jets stationed at RAF Leuchars (at least it seemed to be arranged by Ken - the timing was perfect!). We were sorry our perfect day was at an end when Ken dropped us back at the train station at 5:00pm. We had originally booked a half-day tour, but the all day (8 hour) tour is very much worth every penny. We will definitely book another all day Exploring Fife tour the next time we are in Scotland.
