Dutch friends of ours treated us to dinner here. And wow, what an exceptional treat it was.
It's a little out of the way and situated in a predominantly pedestrian shopping district. You park in a multi-level parking structure and walk about two blocks but it is well worth it. Most of the other restaurants in the district were slow... This place was full.
Our friends are regulars here and we were greeted like we were family. The owner himself showed us to our table and welcomed us. Menus followed... Phenomenal choices. I chose the kabeljauw (cod) filet dinner with frieten (french fries), my wife chose a house special meat sampler which we elected to share so we could each enjoy both entrees.
As soon as the menus were gathered, the Ouzo shots materialized... Then the wonderful Greek salads. All seven main courses arrived at the same time, all piping hot, all fresh.
The entrees we had were fantastic. Absolutely the best cod filet I have ever tasted. The seven different types of meat in the sampler were equally delicious. The portions were very generous and we ended up taking a goodly amount home. We topped off the meal with a great cup of cappuccino.
The prices here are very reasonable for the exceptionally high quality of the food here. Likewise, the service was excellent as well. Our thanks to Henry, our server. Outstanding efficiency, responsiveness, and service. We had a wonderful dining experience and would absolutely eat here again.
As a reminder, the American custom of free refills for soft drinks and coffee/tea is not practiced in Europe. You will be charged separately for each beverage. Also, tips are already included in the price. Save your additional tips for only the most outstanding service.

The Terrace location on the town square made it the perfect choice to enjoy the Octoberfest parade and all the people and rides. Even when a group of about 40 people arrived all at once, the service didn't falter. We were very pleased with the limited menu for the occasion and were amazed everything was so good on what seemed to be the busiest day of the year.

Small but nice and cozy living room decorated "eatcafe" on restaurant level. About thirty seatings for dinner, drinks only limited if there is a free table or on reservation for whisky lovers. Over 550 whisky's in stock, expert advice is always possible! Also very extensive range of other alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Illy coffee! Constant four beers on tap. Monthly whisky tastings. Extensive menu with Scotch (whisky) dishes, local and international, mostly Mediterranean cuisine. Ever changing vegetarian dishes. Asparagus, mussels, salads and rich choice of venison in the seasons. Diets and allergies expert chef always present. Environmentally conscious, biologically appropriate and fair trade are important. Training company for 20 years, working with handicapped youngsters.
This restaurant is located in a side street of the central market place. But boy, is this a place to take a short stroll to. First of all, the reception. Very hearthy and open. Then, of course, there's the gargantuan number of whisk(e)ys on offer,...MoreThank you so much for your fantastic review Pascal! Maybe someday, I will find some time to translate, next to our menu (already in English), also the toilet-items into English.

Having read the reviews for Bagels & Beans before we visited Sittard, we decided to try it out. We were far from disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious! Great flavour combinations, affordable and really good. I highly recommend it. We happened to be there on a beautiful bright sunny day and they even provided sunscreen on the outside tables!!!!

Amazing Ribs with apple sauce and generous chips and salad as side. For chocolate lover, you must try their moist and warm brownie with vanilla ice-cream. It's a nice restaurant for family with young children as there's a play area where the kids can play and entertain themselves. Good pricing for the food quality and portion! We will definitely visit again!

Enjoyed the meal at this restaurant immensely. The menu was varied, and the dinner portions were large as well as delicious. Our waitress was very accommodating and friendly. Would recommend this place highly out of the restaurants around the Sittard market square.

South Limburg ("Zuid Limburg" in Dutch) is that low-hanging southern panhandle, nearly disconnected from the rest of the Netherlands by borders all around. Yes, proximity of borders explains one of the differences of "Zuid Limburg" to the rest of the Netherlands.
One of the oldest and most typical towns of South Limburg is Sittard, a town at the northern limit of South Limburg, and at the most narrow neck of "Zuid Limburg" and Dutch territory. Sittard is book-ended within 5 miles, to the west by Belgium, to the east (even a shorter distance) by Germany. Many in South Limburg are proud to speak their own language, dialect or patois and, again, this is certainly true when dealing with folks in Sittard. In turn, this “Limburgish” language is a direct sponge reflection of the border reality of the region, next-door to three different cultures: German, Flemish and French. Yes, French has long been present in this border town as well. Legend has it that one of the early visitors from France to the region, at one point, looked at the time, and said: "Si tard?", meaning "this late?". Anyhow, we're talking conjecture here... On the other hand, in contrast, it is never too late, when in Sittard, to enjoy an unusually old market square certainly worth exploring. Flanked by ancient churches, the place is also lined with little eateries and cozy Dutch cafés, which is the Dutch take on drinking holes or pubs... There are so many around this Sittard market place that it takes some willful and intelligent effort to get to know them all. Don't forget your wallet either!
Doing the tour, always a bit at your own risk (how much beer can you handle), one of the "must" places to hit is "Schtad Zitterd" (meaning "Town Sittard" in the local patois) and, allegedly, the dean, one of the most senior pubs or cafés in town and in South Limburg altogether. Like many of the other eateries and drinking holes around the square, on a sunny day, or even on a chilly day, "Schtad Zitterd" provides comfortable side-walk Seating and a great vantage point from where to take in the local people traffic, incidentally, strictly pedestrian or on bikes... While doing so, this is also the place to enjoy a wide selection of beers, wines, and inexpensive hearty local dishes... If just wanting a quick bite, be sure to try their "bitter ballen" (small hot little meat-balls, brittle on the outside, soft on the inside), and perfect companions to a good glass of chilled local beer. If real hunger needs are to be sated, try their steak and fries... Great on the taste buds, great on price. For more choices, check with one of the pretty (and pleasant) young waitresses. Service is excellent at the place, and sometimes even includes the pleasure of little food tidbits on-the-house.
