Around a 15 minute walk from the car park, a pretty climb, but with steep inclines. Would recommend going earlier, as it gets dark quite quickly, around 3-4pm in January, dangerous and can't see the falls when it is dark.

So many toys you will remember from your earlier years - the number crammed in to the fee rooms will stagger you. Captain Scarlet, Star Wars, The Saint, Gollies, Whimsies, Batman, Action Man, you name it it's here along with hundreds of soldiers and dolls. An inexpensive look at yesteryear and so much fun telling my children how we played with all these things. Great family fun.

We rented a small cottage, just North of Glasgow, in the general area between Milton of Campsie and Kilsyth. We enjoy hill-walking, so we did some research, and decided to venture into the brilliant, Trossachs National Park, and climb Ben A'an.
We used our car to drive through several villages, including Killeam, Balfron, and Aberfoyle, ultimately leading us to the A821, and Dukes Pass. What a beautiful drive, winding down the narrow road to Loch Achray, which on this morning was quite still, (no wind), reflecting the hills and trees with colourful leaves, around its shore.
The car park we used was on the right of the A821, very near Loch Achray. The hill-walk starts just across the road from the car park. Pay and Display was in order, so brings some coins for that purpose. We had a small day pack, filled with sandwiches and fruit, with a plan to enjoy our lunch at the summit. We stopped at a Co-op, on our drive through Milton, to pick something up. The Co-op had fresh pre-made sandwiches, with a special lunch offer including water, which proved refreshing on our 1.5 - 2.0 hr. walk to the top of Ben A'an. The lunch purchased was reasonably priced and the summit is a wonderful place for lunch.
The path starts out steep, a gravel path leads into an attractive wood. Our walk was in early November, so there were trees with colourful leaves to enjoy. Several small streams, flow along and beneath the path, that moves through the forest. As you move up the path, you will enjoy the look back down toward Loch Achray. The sunlight was glistening and the Loch was sparkling!
At one point along the path, things level out a bit ... and you get a view of the summit of Ben A'an. It looks quite prominent and steep. This area has been clear cut, (the surrounding forest harvested), so their is waste "slash" is around. I understand this area will be replanted with more native tree species in the future.
The path will continue to ascend, as you move closer to the summit. There are some great views of the surrounding Mountains. You will approach the summit from the right side and wind up to the top in a counter-clock wise direction. As you near the summit there is a spectacular view of Loch Katrine, to the West. I'm sure you will stand here, just for a while, and just take in the moment. This is absolutely beautiful!
We found a good spot, on an out-cropping, to sit and enjoyed our lunch with a view well worth the walk to the top. This walk I highly recommend!

The exhilaration we felt when we saw that "Welcome to the Highlands" sign was only matched by the spectacular and pristine vistas we saw driving alongside this enchanting loch. We stopped for a mini-picnic and to fly the drone for some fantastic aerial shots of the loch and surrounding green, magical countryside. Road tripping though the Scottish Highlands has convinced me that perhaps fairies and water horses might exist. The mystical atmosphere is powerful enough to make a believer out of two cynical Californians. Scotland--where have you been all my life? Well, I suppose it's been north of England and east of Ireland for longer than I've existed, but still. I feel like I've missed out not experiencing this place until my 40s.
If you are driving through the Highlands, stop where you can, get out of the car, walk a bit, and take some pictures. Even if you are on a tight schedule, do it. You won't regret it.

My wife and I had a drive to Callander yesterday, found a car park, and parked up.
Neither of us had been to Callander before, so were not entirely sure of what to expect, although we did do a little research before leaving home.
We made the information centre our first port of call, which is easy to find, being situated in the Main Street.
We spoke to a pleasant and helpful lady who was happy to answer our questions about local attractions, and walks. We were also provided with a map, free of charge, that covers walks within the local area, which later on in the day turned out to be of great help.
Excellent service all round.

A relaxed and welcoming contemporary art gallery based in the picturesque town of Callander offering affordable original contemporary artwork, sculpture, ceramics, designer jewellery and design-led gifts in a light, airy and stylish exhibition space.
Pretty gallery with plenty of paintings and other artwork. We enjoyed our walk round. As the pieces are all originals they vary in price but some are pricey, but would make lovely special gifts. One of our group loved a painting at £900, but sadly(!)...MoreThank you for your kind comments. All reviews are most welcome as are customers like yourselves!

Lady Kentmores is an Antique shop with a difference, we stock all those normal antique shop stalwarts from fine porcelain to jewellery but we also are proud to deal in the more unusual side of the trade too from shrunken heads and medical oddities to fairground antiques. This is because owner George Johnson ( TV antiques expert, writer & treasure hunter) has a Mission to bring a bit of fun & showmanship to the antiques trade,Every corner of the shop is jam packed with items of curiosity and interest, it is because of this that the shop has featured on Television and in the press many times. The shop has also made the finals of the BBC Home & Antiques Best Antiques Shop in the UK!That's not a bad recommendation to have.
Inside this antique shop is a tiny museum of curios collected by Cornelius Kentmore in the 19th century. Among them are the world's smallest Bible and the death masks of murderers Burke and Hare. Not worth making a special journey to Callandar for, but if you're there you shouldn't miss it! Entry is £1.

Trossachs Distillery in Callander, Scotland, overlooked by the majestic Ben Ledi, is the home of McQueen Gin, handcrafted with passion, honesty and integrity. Each and every batch is created with the same passion and commitment to excellence as the very first one. We monitor, balance, and adjust as necessary during distillation, based on taste and nose, not on time and formula. This is meticulous handcrafting, and guarantees the finest quality and truest consistency. Our core impressions are * Super Premium Dry * Sweet Citrus * Smokey Chilli * Mocha * Chocolate Mint * Spiced Chocolate Orange It is important to note that these are not flavoured gins made by adding flavour to gin. They are 100% distilled flavour with no flavour element added after the gin leaves the still. This ensures a crystal clear product at a full 42% abv, retaining true juniper gin character. All ingredients are natural botanicals, no flavouring or artificial elements are used. Check website for daily tour times.
If interested in gin Distilleries, I highly recommend a visit to McQueen's. While a bit difficult to find, they provide personalized tours, giving the insight in the technical aspects of the making-of-gin, including a good tasting session. I learned more about gin, in this one...MoreThanks Peter, glad you had a great time.

Samson's Putting Stone is a massive boulder deposited by a glacier on top of a hill overlooking Callander. It's a super viewpoint commanding great views of the surrounding glens and the stone itself is quite interesting as it looks barely perched on the summit.
It is a short but quite steep path up but definitely worth it on a clear day. There is a clearly marked trail with a bench on the trail up if you need a break.
You can easily be up and down in an hour or so.
