Bowness-on-Windermere is a town in South Lakeland, Cumbria, England. Due to its position on the banks of Windermere, the town has become a tourist honeypot. Although their mutual growth has caused them to become one large settlement, the town is distinct from the town of Windermere as the two still have distinguishable town centres. Historically part of Westmorland, in 2012, Bowness was one of the official stop off points for the Olympic torch before it made its way to the Olympic Games opening ceremony.

Enjoy a serene day out at the most enchanting historic houses in the Lake District. When you visit you are invited to relax and immerse yourself in all the beauty and craftsmanship of Blackwell. We encourage you to sit and soak up the atmosphere in Blackwell’s fireplace inglenooks, which have fine examples of tiles by Arts & Crafts designer William de Morgan. The inviting window seats offer stunning views of the surrounding Lake District scenery. You can appreciate the house as it was originally intended, without roped-off areas. Blackwell retains many of its original decorative features, including a rare hessian wall-hanging in the Dining Room, leaf-shaped door handles, curious window catches, spectacular plasterwork, stained glass and carved wooden panelling by Simpsons of Kendal. The rooms contain furniture and objects by many of the leading Arts and Crafts designers and studios.
My wife was particularly interested in the arts aspect and was not disappointed. The contrast between panelled hall and dining room contrasted with the brilliant living room with views over Windermere. You don't need to buy the guide as the display notices are sufficient. Additional...MoreThank you for taking the time to review your visit to Blackwell. We are pleased to read that this extraordinary house lived up to your wife's expectations too! Hopefully we can welcome you both back to Blackwell again soon.

The characters of Beatrix Potter's stories are brought to life in this recreation of the Lakeland countryside.
Priced about right and the pathway through each tale was well designed. Each tale gave the opportunity to learn a little about each story via a touch screen. The final section telling the story of Beatrix herself and the impact of the Lake District on her life and writing was both informative and well presented.
The garden was the only downside and I put this down to the limited space available as there was not much on offer.
The shop was as you would expect from any attraction and you either paid for it or left it on the shelf. No point in moaning about it. I thought it was worth the expense for a one off purchase or in my case a 4 item purchase.
The tea room was in keeping with the theme and the cream tea was one of the cheapest I have had at £4.50 and one of the best. I was bought up on these stories and so related to the experience far more than otherwise and as such thought it represented good value.

Recently opened as "The Fun Factory" Bowness. We are open every day from 10am to 6pm. Parents can relax on our soft sofas whilst overlooking magnificent views of Lake Windermere, whist your children let off steam in the soft play area. Cafe Dolce is also opened daily serving a variety of hot beverages cakes and snacks.
Does exactly what it says on the tin.... the kids loved it, was well worth the £9 for the 2 of them for the break, and they really enjoyed it. Lovely little cafe in the adults area with views across the lake.... prices are fair £1.90 for a large coffee!!! The ice cream cafe at the front also did lovely smoothies that you can sit and have in the fun area!!

The Old Laundry Theatre is a 270 seat theatre-in-the-round situated in Bowness-on-Windermere, and a thriving cultural hub for residents and visitors to the Lake District. Over the past two decades, the Old Laundry has welcomed a host of famous names from Alan Carr and Jenny Eclair to Victoria Wood and Sue Perkins. And along with an impressive star-studded list of trustees, husband and wife Roger Glossop and Charlotte Scott name one of the country's most famous playwrights as the inspiration behind the theatre's creation: "We wouldn't be where we are now without Alan Ayckbourn's support, he gave us the confidence to open the theatre and its success is down to him".
And amazing show, which takes you through the tales of Beatrix Potter while on the look out for Peter Rabbit!! It is delightful! The animals come to life through the wonderful and very talented actors, beautiful scenery and narration. Our children loved it....southportsouthport did mum and dad! Lovely touch at the start, Reading about the life of Beatrix Potter

I called in here briefly, whilst the rest of my family group wound their way back to the pier.
I was immediately struck by the unusual architecture of the church’s interior, which reminded me of the interior of the Synagogue of Saint Mary the White in Toledo, Spain. I wish I’d had longer to pursue this comparative thought, and to appreciate what more the church had to offer. And there was some singing emanating from somewhere in the church too.
Next time, perhaps I’ll be able to linger a bit longer …

Went on the 'round trip' around Windermere Lake and it was a great day out made even better by the very knowledgeable crew and the commentary. The views were fantastic and at a very good price considering the time and distance travelled.
