Fiesch-Eggishorn

Admire the full length and vastness of the Great Aletsch Glacier in all its glory – from the Eggishorn, the 2869 m-high viewpoint. Just turn around for a view of the higher peaks: the Mönch, the Eiger, the Jungfrau, the Wannenhorn and the Finsteraarhorn, and to the west the Weisshorn, the Mischabel group with the Dom, and the Matterhorn itself form a breathtaking 360° Panorama. This impressive viewpoint is just a 20-minute journey from Fiesch; the change at Fiescheralp is easy and suitable for those with limited mobility. The Eggishorn is suitable for wheelchairs and prams.

I took the cable cars to Eggishorn mid June. This is off season, but having gone up other tops the weeks and days before and finding well curated facilities (view platforms) with at least a bunch of people, Eggishorn offered a unique experience. Views of the Aletsch Glacier and Mountains were great, even being a bit clouded. But that was not any different on other spots. What made it unique for me are the circumstances. The restaurant was closed (building open, but no one there), no clear viewing platform, everytihng snow covered and most of all: no one ther except for some workers in a helicopter. When they left (helicopter diving head first over the ridge to the glacier) I was there all alone on a snow covered peak! Felt quite different from the other spots.
Probably in high season this will be different and still in off season you might be with a big group (the gondola is big) but give it. try and maybe your experience will be the same.

Staying in Blitzingen, we passed this bridge on the train a few times before deciding that we simply had to walk it. What a fantastic structure, and a true experience to walk over it. We disembarked the train, walked across the bridge and up to the chapel in the village. A fantastic settlement that's well worth visiting.

Gommer Hohenweg

Reviewed By Chris K - London, England, United Kingdom

The Gommer Hohenweg is a trail along the north side of the Goms Valley in Switzerland, from Oberwald to Bellwald - not really an attraction in itself.
The path is at about 1500m altitude, while the valley is at 1000m to 1200m. The path is long enough that you should allow 2-3 days to walk the full length, though you are more likely to take longer over a variety of circular walks in the same valley. By alpine standards it is not a "high" path at all, but it still requires a bit of a climb to get to it from the villages where the hotels and restaurants are.
The walk is very pleasant, you can pick up walk routes from local hotels and tourist informations, or online route suggestions, or you can get the relevant 1:25000 scale maps and make your own walks. The route is well-marked and maintained and though there are some steep sections that require some confidence there is no scrambling required. We went in summer, but it is probably also a viable route in most of spring and autumn. Take advice before trying to walk it in winter when it will inevitably be heavily snowed.

Aletsch Arena

The Aletsch Arena resorts have much in common: being part of the Alps' first UNESCO World Heritage Site. The views of the imposing 400-metre Valais peaks. Their proximity to the Great Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps. And yet, Riederalp, Bettmeralp and Fiesch-Eggishorn each have their own distinctive character - which means you can find your very own favourite holiday destination in the most liberating nature experience of the Alps.

The view from the Bettmerhorn to the Aletschgletscher (the longest glacier in the Alps) as well as to the famous Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau is magnificent, amazing. Hiking in summer time and skiing in winter time here around is splendid. After that relax in one of the various mountain restaurants with good wine and local food.

Aletsch Glacier

Europe's largest glacier, a UNESCO World Heritage site, surrounded by geological glacial featured landscapes and Alpine flora and wildlife.

There are some great views of the start of this glacier from the Sphinx or Jungfraujoch at the Top of Europe. If had more time in Switzerland, it would have been great to head south and catch a better view of the glacier from Eggishorn or Bettmeralp, but I was on a pretty tight timeline so just enjoyed the amazing glacier from the Top of Europe.

We made the mistake of using Google maps to navigate to the Park - don't do it. The road leads you to Baceno and ends there. We backtracked to Varzo and tried to get to the Park from there. That access road is narrow, windy and pretty much runs through people's houses. Not for the lighthearted or the motion sick.
Great vistas along the way, once you make it to the road. Word to the wise, however, its probably best to let the locals pass you as they are well-versed with the curves and comfortable going much faster than a new person would.

Jungfraujoch Sphinx Observatory

Reviewed By Huilong - Singapore, Singapore

Took a day trip package that covers the journey from Zurich to Bernese Oberland, Interlaken and finally to Jungfraujoch.
The view from Jungfraujoch is AMAZING!
Coming from Asia, this is the first time for me to experiencing falling snow and such cold (chilling) temperature.
During my visit, some of the outdoor activities were closed but there still are few informative areas to visit: Ice palace, Aletsch Glacier..etc But nothing beats the view from Sphinx Observatory.
Note:
1. The F&B is extremely expensive. A korean cup noodle is CHF 9.9 up there and i think the mains are around CHF15+. Recommended to pack your Sandwich and hot drinks.
2. The Lindt outlet is more expensive. Despite the salesman's pitch that they are cheaper than market or airport - this is NOT true. You can easily beat their price anywhere in Zurich and there are alot of promotions in the airport, so skip the purchase.
3. Wear appropriate clothing
In short: if you are visiting Zurich, this is something you need to do, once in a lifetime.
