Welcoming guests from all over the world at our chalet in the middle of the heart of the old town in Brig gives us great joy everyday. Great traditional food and drinks at a fair without frills has been our guiding principals at Steakhouse Eidgenossen for almost 30 years. Besides our beloved steaks from the charcoal grill, the Eidgenossen menu offers a fine selection of the Swiss cusisine. To complement enjoy delicious wines from the regional vineyards. It would be our pleasure to welcome you at Steakhouse Eidgenossen. Family Claudia & Peter Witschi-Biaggi
We visited this restaurant based on reviews on Trip Advisor. We're not sure why everyone rated this so well but we found it to be very ordinary or we ordered the wrong food. We all travel, eat out regularly and don't normally complain but we do wonder where everyone was coming from in recommending this restaurant.
It sounds from the reviews the steaks are great and one of our group ordered veal schnitzel which was tasty and looked good but that's where it ended for us.
One of our group also ordered the veal schnitzel but the waiter who took the order thought they ordered veal sausage and argued with them that this is what they ordered and proceeded to return with the menu to point this out! Rather than create a scene our friend accepted the dish. This turned out to be a very large sausage laid across a dinner plate of hot chips. My veal escalopes (over cooked and very dry) were served with a mushroom sauce and chips. It was a very plain, uninspiring meal for both of us. We did get a small bowl of lettuce, tomato and carrot on the side too.
Perhaps we needed to think of the restaurant as a pub first and food second. Either way it was not what we were expecting based on Trip Advisor reviews.
We wouldn't recommend this restaurant to friends.

We were there last winter and had a wonderful menu, the waiter has very attentive and friendly. The wine list was exceptional with a tremendous selection of local wine, with rare sorts of wines from the area. The owner drove us back to our hotel in Fiesch, when that is not great service, then I don't know what that is.

Right next to the cable car station on Riederalp you will find the only bakery of the place - Zurschmitten - which has a coffee shop attached to it. A warm and cosy place to get breakfast (their "gipfeli" are pretty good), small lunches or - if you have a sweet tooth - coffee and pastry in the afternoon. There is usually a choice of fruit pies as well as their standard apple pie with hot vanilla sauce. We found the latter a little disappoining, though, as the vanilla sauce was obviously not home made and the cake not very fresh.
Service is friendly and the view on the Mountains is unbeatable.

I went with 5 friends of mine on a Saturday night. The restaurant was not full but just busy, and we found the service extremely slow.
The dining room decoration is not nice at all: very oldfashion, 1970's style.
There is a nice list of local dishes, prices are not cheap, just average.
As it was during the summer, the dining room was not air conditioned and there was no air at all: it was far too hot for having a nice dinner. If you can sit outside it will be much nicer.
I advise the risotto with local ham, very nice.

We purchased an one day package deal ("herbstsonne") for the cable cars and lifts to explore the Mountains and the views across the Aletsch glacier. At Bettmerhorn we ate lunch deals included in the package. An excellent sausage and potato dish was offered for the carnivore and the vegetarian was served "cholera" which is a tasty cheese and potato pie with salad. There were simple desserts too. Not surprisingly the meal was overshadowed by the view. The sun was shining and the entire Alpine range from Mont Blanc via the Matterhorn to the Monte Rosa and beyond was clearly visible. Service at the cafeteria was fine. Recommended!

Danys been around for several years. It is a family-run (Dani and his wife Daniela) small place in the west of the Riederalp village. During the day it is a bar/cafe for quick refreshments or a small simple lunch - home-made soups and selected other basic dishes. In the evening the place is usually packed during the high-season with people enjoying Raclette, Fondue chinoise (with Daniela's sauces), meats you can grill at your table grills etc - reservation is advisable. The wine list is short but well thought, focusing on local specialties. We spent a wonderful evening with our friends enjyoing Fondue chinoise - the service was very friendly (as always), efficient, and uncomplicated. The sauces were excellent, and so was the quailty of meat, served with very good fries, rice, and fruits. We also enjoyed the local red wines (Humagne rouge, Pinot noir), and wrapped the whole thing up with an digestive (local abricotine). Will go back for sure.

James, the host from England, along with his wife from Belgium, have really made this a beautiful restaurant to enjoy. Local specialties have been given their touch and are tasty and beautifully presented. The decor and view of the Alps are both wonderful and the friendly service makes you want to keep coming back. Great WiFi spot and nice to be able to enjoy a superb fish & chips with a Guiness when not feeling like one of the cheese-prominent local dishes. Would be nice if AmEx were accepted.

Enjoyed a delicious, hot, fresh lunch today at this lovely restaurant. We had the bratwurst and rosti dish and a gulasch soup! Wow! Scrumptious, filling lunch before we hit the slopes- friendly service and our waiter spoke English! Bathrooms are ridiculously clean- even a changing area for babies in the women's bathroom with pampers and wet wipes--first I've seen thats!
Saw many customers order schnitzel and cordon bleu---looked divine! If I ever get back here... I will definitely try it!
