I volunteered with the Vervet Monkey Foundation (VMF) for four months. It was a fantastic experience from start to finish.
It is very rewarding being able to work with vervets who are fascinating primates, and there are plenty of opportunities to learn about them through the founders of the center and experienced long term volunteers and staff members. Each day was ended with the satisfaction of having worked hard but also having done a world of good.
The atmosphere in down time is fantastic, being surrounded by people from all around the world who all share your love of primates (if you don't love primates before you go, give it a few days there and you will)! The cabin accommodation is comfortable and the food is basic but tasty and veggie/vegan. Also Tzaneen is in a beautiful area of South Africa so there are plenty of chances to explore the nearby Waterfalls, tea room and many other beautiful areas including Kruger National Park.
It is so hard to sum up an experience like this within just a few paragraphs and I'm sure I haven't done it justice at all. I will finish by recommending this to all travelers who love animals and would like to really make a difference to the lives of these awesome monkeys. Just be prepared; when you leave, you will leave a piece of your heart in Tzaneen.

The Magoebaskloof Canopy Tour(R) will take you on a journey into a previously inaccessible realm of nature, as you traverse the upper level of indigenous forest and ancient mountain cliffs, overlooking the spectacular Groot Letaba River gorge. The tour includes awe-inspiring slides and platform viewpoints over three giant Waterfalls, each tumbling up to 20 metres into the sparkling river below.
I did the tree canopy tour (multiple ziplines in GORGEOUS surroundings) and it was awesome. Great guides, felt safe, beautiful nature.

The Earth Spa is a place to escape and unwind and to renew mind, body and soul.
We booked the executive de-stress treatment for two and it was great. We arrived a little bit early and asked if we could buy a cup of coffee. We were taken to the restaurant by the gentleman of the reception and welcomed with a warm smile.
After our coffee we walked to the spa and everybody we passed on the way greeted us friendly and genuine.
At the spa everything was clean and the ladies very friendly, We started with a steam session, then a hydro bath with rose petals and two small bottles of bubbly. Followed by an aromatherapy full body massage rounded of with a hand and foot treatment.
We were surprised by their professional approach and eye for detail, especially for the price they ask. Not expensive at all!. We have visited many spa's and can honestly say that we will come back.
When we thought the morning was over we were in for a very nice surprise. I had contacted the spa to ask if it was possible to have lunch at the lodge. When our treatment was over and we had paid a table was waiting for us outside the spa. A lovely plate with fruit, yogurt, muesli, cheese and crackers was waiting for us with a cold drink on the side. Many, many thanks for a lovely morning and a great service.

Blueberry Heights Farm offers blueberry picking during the Summer months (December, January and February). The farm boasts a wonderful restaurant, the Mountain Cafe, serving fresh, seasonal food. There is also a farm shop with local products and art.
We thoroughly enjoyed what was on offer at Blueberry Heights when we stayed at the Turaco Farm Cottage recently. One can go blueberry picking or buy the berries directly from the farm's shop, but why miss out on the experience? They make and sell tasty blueberry pies and other products too. We enjoyed swims in the Stanford Lake that I on the farm. There are many paths to enjoy either on walks or trail running or mountain biking. When you don't feel like cooking there are lovely meals to be had at the Mountain Cafe situated on the farm.

Right next to the quiet river, lush green surroundings, walking trails--- and a most wonderful gazebo from where to sit, relax and let the time pass by.
There is a little deck for fishing or for getting on small row boats to discover the nature around.
