Monte Faito e Panorama

Reviewed By JuliusVtravel - Naples, Campania, Italy

Monte Faito, at 1100 metres (3600feet) and almost the same height as Vesuvius at 1281 metres (4200 feet), will be the highlight to your visit to Castellammare di Stabia, located between Sorrento/Vico Equense and Pompeii. The summit provides spectacular 360° panoramic views of both the Gulf of Naples as well as the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast with the Island of Capri in the distance. The ascent will take 8 minutes in the cable car that holds 35 people. The first departure is at 9.35 am and the last return is at 16.25. Do check the details as the service does not operate during the late autumn, winter and early spring periods. You can take a car to the top via Vico Equense. The charge is €8 and in my opinion the best investment you can make during your stay on the Sorrento Peninsula.

This beach was the perfect timing in our trip. Located a 10 minute walk from our hotel and a ride down an elevator it offered everything we needed. Relax and enjoy. The staff was excellent and the restaurant much better than expected considering. Note: We were there in July, sitting on a warf with a small beach accessible from the warf but it seems from photos that this is not always the case. In one of the photos I noticed there is no warf and the whole area is beach.

Scavi di Stabia

Reviewed By Sally F - Northampton, United Kingdom

Staying in Castellammare di Stabia, we had read about these excavations but not much is made about them in the guidebooks. We decided to get a taxi from our hotel and were glad that we did as it would have been a long, hot walk up the hill. Villa San Marco is the larger and better preserved of the two. There is a large car park although, at the time we visited, we were the only ones on the site. The entrance is between some houses and there is someone there but no payment to go in - you just sign a visitor book. Quite mind-blowing! Equally as good as many of the buildings at Pompeii and you can walk on the mosaic floors, go right up to the frescoes and even see the lava filling one of the rooms which hasn't yet been excavated. Some of the frescoes are now in the archeological museum in Naples but there are lots still in situ. We then walked to the Villa di Arianna - it took about 15 minutes and there is no path for quite a lot of it so you have to walk along the road. This villa is smaller and less well preserved but still interesting. Again free to enter. Both sites have clean toilets but there are no refreshments so worth taking a bottle of water with you. Friendly staff who speak a little English. Can't recommend these villas highly enough - absolutely amazing!

A lovely local church with a peaceful ambience and a wonderful Madonna, waiting to be taken on a walk around the town on a Saint's day. There are some interesting paintings and the flowers were lovely when we were there.

It's not worth finding this because no-one has looked after it for ages and as a consequence is run-down and rubbish strewn. Broken glass too.

This restaurant was closed for the season, but clients of the excellent terme were welcome to eat in the space, food delivered from an in-town restaurant and served with a flare. The location is a knock-out. Eager to return when it's serving from it's own kitchen.

Opera e Lirica

The Great Italian Opera and Neapolitan Songs in Sorrento are performed by singers and musicians from the most important Italian Theaters. Opera performed in the fascinating Correale Museum of Terranova is the perfect mix between art and emotion, culture and passion. From April until October the Opera e Lirica Concerts take place in Sorrento in this gorgeous mansion.

The 3 tenors concert is held in the Musee , a delightful building with atmospheric courtyard. Prosecco is served before the concert.
The concert is in an intimate room and it doesn't matter where one sits as one has an excellent view.
The 3 tenors perform arias from various popular operas. The pianist and other musicians were excellent too. This is not a "stuffy " event it is light hearted, fun but very entertaining. The 3 ; have amazing voices and the concert passes too quickly.
The room and it's interior design adds to a very atmospheric performance. Afterwards we had our photos taken with the tenors.
I took my teenage daughter who is definately not an opera fan but she was totally mesmerized and agreed that it was a wonderful night out, totally entertaining.
