Bluebell Railway

Founded in 1959 and still steaming! We run steam trains between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead on over 200 days each year, and are open even when no trains are running.

Reviewed By MikeH589 - Gosport, United Kingdom

Chilly day in February with the Sulky Service running, well worth the visit even if it was a bit early for the bluebells! Only one train running today so opportunity’s a little limited, but at the end of the day you don’t need much more. The Engine Shed at Sheffield Park is still closed for remodelling, should be great when finished.

Sheffield Park and Garden

Sheffield Park and Garden has something for everyone from our magnificent landscape Gardens and lakes to the rolling parkland and woodland play trail.

arrived at 10:30am, confusing information upon arrival (unsure of any parking charges, entrance fees & dog friendly areas)
The main park / Gardens don’t allow dogs until 13:30 and then after dogs are only allowed on leads. We were then pointed in the direction of the parkland area with no time restrictions on, however dogs must remain on leads in this area at all times due to possible livestock. The only area where dogs are allowed is the ‘east park’ which actually isn’t a park, it’s at best a 10 minute walk on the outskirts of the main park under a few trees with little to look at.
Overall if you have dogs, not worth visiting.

Past visits with school groups were great but, somehow they seem to have lost the magic. Much more commercial than before and the play area has been demolished and you are left with just a few apparatus, swing-one, slide-one, zip wire-one and parallel ropes. Not much else unless you are booked for the quite expensive activities. £15 -£17.50 for two hours. Yummy mummy country I know. The woods are still good to explore and the paths are more than adequate. The egg mayo rolls for lunch had a very nice fill but, the roll was heavy and I would venture to say, stale. Not a shred of green to go with it. Children's lunch bag was not very appetising for the price.
Would I go again, probably not.

We've been round a few vineyards, in England and in France, but this was the best ever. Our guide was the assistant wine maker and she gave us an interesting and comprehensive insight into the challenges of making English sparkling wine. Hind leap does sound better than Bluebell as the name for their English sparkling wines. The tour doesn't involve much walking and to be honest, there isn't a huge amount to see - the vines, the pressing and bottling equipment, so it's what you hear from the guide during the tour that is important.
Of course the other important part is the tasting - the sampled five of their six wines. Again the explanation and description was knowledgeable and interesting. Some vineyard tours are very much cheaper, but Bluebell shows that you get what you pay for. I guess the same applies to the wine, so we ended up buying several bottles.

Went with a pal and his elderly mother. Lovely Sandwich, not too pricey.
The bins were near the toilets though, and they were brim full, as I think they are a campsite too. (not sure if there are other toilets)
Some interesting shops and everyone very friendly. Very well kept place. Old tractors for kids to climb on etc.

Horsted Spa

Reviewed By Salfry - Eastbourne, United Kingdom

I visited Horsted Spa today with my mum and sister as a treat paid for by my mum. Mum paid about £220 all in for each of us to have two mini treatments (35 min treatments) and use of the spa facilities. We left at the end of the experience feeling that the treatments were great but the facilities just not brilliant for the following reasons; not very friendly spa receptionist who just seemed to give us the impression that it was all just a bit too much bother!, too small spa changing rooms with one loo seemingly 'in use' the whole time we were there leaving only one loo, showers with no curtains or doors (not everyone is happy to bare all!), few lockers that actually had a key, poor Seating for spa users to eat lunch (mismatched tables in the gym foyer, which was chilly) limited chill out areas for spa customers (we weren't shown the relaxation room until near the end of our day and then only because we were beginning to complain about our 50 minute wait for lunch - it seems only customers having a lot of treatments are allowed to use it but a £200 odd spend warrants use of it to me surely!), as mentioned - 50 min wait for lunch and then luke warm soup, as mentioned - changing facilities too small- felt cramped when getting changed at the end of the day - other clients literally standing there watching us change until we moved out the way for them (slightly off putting!), not allowed over to the Hotel restaurant in our robes unless we were hotel guests?? Hot drinks in paper cups ( but they were complimentary which is good). We were refunded our lunch cost due to the wait by Matt the Health Club Manager who went out his way to help us with great service and a friendly smile ( he is an asset to the place). All in all - great treatments although quite pricey, second rate facilities. It seems really hard to find a spa in our area that ticks all the boxes.

I've been meaning to go to Tinkers Park and see it's fabulous collection of traction engines, so this Saturday just gone I thought ,do you know what let's go the weather was great so why not. Driving up A272 to Hadlow Down I thought this could be fun let's see what the fuss is about, well you drive onto a dirt track and park up which is free in the fields walk walk back to the entrance and I paid £6 to get in frustrating for me as that this wasn't the big traction fair that's early June but guys I wasn't disappointed there is a small railway with small steam locos there were a number of traction engines and the main event was the multiple sheds with visiting railway models with some almost taking up the whole shed a number of stalls selling railway modellers bit and pieces there is food and a number of fantastic pipe organs which just made the day that bit special I understand from one of the young guys who volunteer that on September 24th 16 there is a huge open day, with loads of traction engines fair rides classic cars and much more. I can promise you young and old there is something for every one take a picnic. You can also buy bites to eat here, you'll have great visit. One word mind buying food here a little pricey but that's from just one stall that was there on my visit I'd probably be more tempted to take picnic bits. Overall this is a must if your staying in the area and Tinkers Park are holding some event check out their website for dates times etc. But you'll love it

I have been to the ringles a few times, and although the pub itsself is nothing special... it could do with a refurb, more entertainment, cosier Seating, more ambiance.. it is still your traditioal what i call "old mans pub" ... however.. the food is the main reason to pop into the ringles!
whether it is during a week day or a tradional sunday roast the chef here needs a pat on the back! previously i have had the veggie burger which is the best veggie burger i have ever had,
more recently i went for a sunday roast. the veggie option was stuffed mushroom whch was divine, with red cabbage which was a hit! roast tatties, and a giant yorkshire.. i would highly recommend their roasts! every one else in my party was happy.
the small critisim i have is the ginger cheesecake i ordered for dessert.. no biscuit base.. massive chunks of ginger in which was too overpowering! i couldnt eat it. but the other desserts went down a hit.
great work ringles, compliments to the chef!!!!!!!

Unhelpful miserable staff, dirty, no veg option with kids food given.
Overpriced and lacking a nice atmosphere, I practically had to beg to get in.
I'd prefer to drive a 40 miles round trip to Tunbridge Wells in traffic than come to this place.
Still the kids didn't seem to mind much.
