On the positive side, this is a very pleasant dining room with efficient, friendly and attentive yet not obstrusive staff. There is a wide ranging menu and the food is well prepared with fresh vegetables and the portions are very generous - so generous that they are more than willing to provide "doggy bags". If your experience of Chinese food is chiefly based on ready made meals from high quality supermarkets you will not be disappointed. But, if like my husband whose first wife was half chinese and you were used to the subtle flavours of Sydney's chinatown , this will be a culinary disappointment.

Established in 1936 The Highlands Inn is situated in Uckfield, East Sussex. The Ridley Family (who also own the Cock Inn, Nr Ringmer which is 5 miles away) took a 20 year lease on the premises in September 2014 and arranged for The Highlands to undergo a complete renovation and it re-opened on 13th October 2014. Since then the business has gone from strength to strength and is an incredibly busy pub for the community of Uckfield and many of the surrounding villages. We aim to offer something for everyone with a large bar and restaurant area, sports bar with TVs and a large garden and outside Seating area. We have just completed the next phase of works with a lovely outside eating area at the front of the pub in April 2017 and there are more plans afoot to improve outside areas.
We go here far too often because it is always excellent. Friendly, professional staff. Great food and service, coupled with a true professional manager, Sarah, who is always looking out to ensure the customer is well catered for and nothing is too much trouble. Love it, love it!!

This is a great place for Sunday lunch. Good ambiance with friendly staff. It is obviously a local pub as well as a destination restaurant. We shared starters including Scotch egg and then most of us had the Confit of Duck. This was superb and the plates were huge, everything being washed down with the local Harvey's ale. Overall a very successful meal and we will return. Expect to pay around £30 each.

A boutique hotel, restaurant and bar. Restaurant - Our restaurant serves fresh British food using locally sourced ingredients, the menu changes on a monthly basis. It is a beautiful setting for a romantic meal for two but we can also accommodate larger groups. Rooms - We have 8 modernly decorated en-suite double rooms. All have state of the art power showers, king sized beds, tea and coffee facilities and complimentary bottled water. Bar - This is a hub of the community, popular with locals and those from further afield. You can pop in for a pint of local ale or a nice bottle of wine, and enjoy it on the comfort of our sofas or on the Sunshine Terrace (sunshine not always provided).
We stayed here overnight for my partner's Birthday. The food was excellent and service very efficient and friendly but unfortunately the room (rm 1) was on two sides of the roundabout and above the bar so was very noisy. The hotel facilities are great though, just need better sound proofing.

I wasn't sure that it would be easy to find a pub doing a normal Sunday lunch service on New Year's Eve as most would be gearing up for the long night ahead. However, The Laughing Fish employee who took my telephone reservation assured me...MoreThank you for your review. We're glad we were able to provide you with Sunday lunch on a Sunday! We're also conscious that our dessert menu can get a bit lean at times, but pleased that you enjoyed the crumble. We'll see you again soon!

Local pub, serving great homemade food. Live music every week, with live sport on 2 screens. Big garden/kids play area. Everything you’d want from your local
After Reading mixed reviews about this pub my friends and I decided we would try it anyway and decide for ourselves. After constantly trying to phone them to book a table we eventually phoned the hotel side of it and was told it had closed.
What a pity they could not put a message on their phone line or on the website. It would have saved a lot of time and effort and made us more sympathetic for when or if they open again. Now, we just won’t bother,

I visit here regularly and the service and food is proper cafe food. Served with a smile and at a good price.

We have eaten here on numerous occasions. The food has always been excellent. From the outside Hartfields looks pretty uninspiring, but what sets it apart is their use of fresh, quality ingredients in their dishes. Service is always friendly and the food is well prepared and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is rustic, cosy and informal. Highly recommended for brunch/lunch.

We booked to have a buffet the Friday evening before our wedding, the pub was the perfect location being a short 3 minute drive from our venue (Buxted Park hotel). We had the conservatory room all to ourselves.
Booking the buffet was easy and communication with Ben at the pub was excellent. He is extremely attentative and nothing is ever too much to ask.
From the minute we arrived on the Friday evening Ben and his team were superb- excellent customer service.
The buffet food was also incredible, particular hits with the guests being the ribs (yummm!), Yorkshire puddings with beef (delicious), chicken wings (juicy), spring rolls (tasty), the smoked salmon...actually everything.
I really want to say these guys know how to look after their customers, the evening was perfect which meant myself and groom (now husband!) were able to relax and enjoy being with our friends and family.
I can't wait to visit again for a juicy steak.
Thank you Ben and your fantastic team!

We had a late lunch here and chose egg mayo sandwiches...wonderful doorsteps of bread with plenty of filling, salad garnish, crisps and a small pot of coleslaw all nicely presented. Being past the lunchtime rush, it wasn’t busy and the food arrived quickly.
This place has its quirks, the service is almost over the top, but it makes for a friendly visit. Very clean toilets. It’s not the cheapest place for lunch but in my view definitely worth that little bit extra.
