We spent two weeks in Donastia and almost every day depending upon the tides and rain, would take a walk along the beach.
The sand is fine , the water clear and there is always some hardy souls swimming.
Of course the setting, a long curved beach with an island just off the middle and soaring hills at either end are a sight to behold.

Historic Center of Hondarribia

Hondarribia is known for the high quality of its Basque gastronomy. But we weren’t there for the food. We wanted to visit the walled old town. Archeaologists have concluded that people have been living in the vicinity of the old town for 5,000 years. The old town includes a 10th century castle and the medieval wall that surrounds the town dates to the 15th century. When you walk through one of the gates in the wall, you really get the feeling that you’ve stepped back in time. The cobbled streets, the narrow lanes and the tall houses with carved wooden balconies all hark back to a bygone era. The atmosphere is helped by the fact that there are very few vehicles inside the walls. And no tourist shops!
We entered the old town by crossing a high bridge, through an old gate in the wall. An impressive introduction!
Some of the lanes in the old town are so narrow, that I don’t imagine that they get any sunlight during the day. It’s a lovely place to visit.

Very much worth the short walk from town or the hermitage to the beach to see the flysch rock formations unique to this part of the Spanish coast. The beach itself is rather secluded and not overly large. It wasn't very crowded when we were there.

This is a grand visitation for all things locomotive,or as my femme quips, loco. Its certainly big-boys toys, with a rich collection of locos, coaches and tram cars with a tall imposing station housing small exhibits outside where sheds and hangers filled with everything locomotive.
Super half day visit. My femme was patient, just as i am on accompanied shopping visits. Ha, she gruffs.

What a great place this is to get out of the city. You hardly have to climb the hill at all to be rewarded with fabulous views. There is a cute little bar serving drinks and coffee which overlooks the sea.

It’s a good place to just wander around the narrow streets, though there is nothing exceptional about San Sebastian’s old town. Like so many other old towns, this one is largely left to tourists, thus the many souvenir shops. One of the nicer surprises is when you turn a corner an get a glimpse of the sea.
However, since I was there during Carnaval, the town did come alive with local colour (and music) on that Sunday.
It does not seem to be a fully pedestrianised district however. Every now and then, a car would come through.
Restaurants are mostly along two streets: Calle San Jeronimo and Calle de 31 de Agosto. Those along San Jeronimo appear a little more touristy, while Calle 31 de Agosto has a few places that look more down-to-earth.
St Vincent’s, at the eastern end of Calle de 31 de Agosto is reputed to be the oldest church in San Sebastian, with origins as far back as the 12th century. There is nothing impressive about its exterior, and it appeared to be locked each time I came by. I don’t know if it is ever open to the public except on Sundays.

We found that beautiful street by accident. We arrived in Hondarribia late afternoon and decided to go for a walk to kill time before dinner. We were blown away by this lively and lovely street. It's lined with beautiful trees and with charming basque houses on each side. The street is teeming with restaurants and pintxos bar. We were surprised that Hondarribia and it's charming calle San Pedro is not more known to tourists. We spent 3 nights in Hondarribia and used it as a base to explore the French and Spanish basques villages nearby. We wished we'd stayed longer to explore this town.
