Platres (Greek: Πλάτρες) is a mountainous village in Cyprus. It is located on the southern slopes of the Troödos Mountains (Greek: Τρόοδος, Turkish: Trodos) and is one of the Krasochoria (Greek: Κρασοχώρια) (wine villages). Platres is the largest Troodos resort, situated about 5km from Troodos square, 25 kilometers (16 mi) north-west of Limassol and 45 kilometers (28 mi) south-west of the capital Nicosia. Platres is a very old village and is mentioned among the 119 villages of the Limassol district that existed during the Lusignan Era (1192-1489 AD) and the Venetian Era (1489-1571 AD). Platres or Pano Platres (Upper Plátres) (Greek: Πάνω Πλάτρες, Turkish: Yukarı Platres) is the principal hill resort of Cyprus. The town has a resident population of fewer than 300, but this can swell to 10000 during tourist seasons.

I wouldn't even bother trying to find these falls. An hour and half drive from Paphos. Then a wild goose chase trying to find the actual waterfall. SatNav kept taking us around in a loop. We researched the night before and it definitely couldn't be found at the location everyone was raving about. Complete waste of time.

We were lucky enough to be shown around the monastery by a local lady. It is a very well restored monastery and church. There are lots of lovely carved doors and ceilings. You can see many icons and old robes etc. The views from the monastery are great.
For a small donation you can light a candle if you wish.
Well worth a visit the views are fantastic.

Visited here with my 8 and 12 year old. The route is a big confusing and didn't find the staff too helpful they was too busy doing maintenance around the site. Good thing is they use the safe clamps where one is attached at all times on the 10 years + Does have some good parts on older kids rides as well but customer service needs to be worked on as we was also told they were looking to close early so felt like they were hinting to hurry up when we were supposed to have 3 hours there. Could be good with sometime. Food and drinks available on site which aren't too expensive. Prices are a little on the high side as well to do all courses are €40.

Decided to visit specific place for first time (after Reading some articles) the previous Sunday.
A really very nice (magical) water fall.
Easy to access, turn left from main road of Trimiklinis with direction for Foini village.
Upon arriving to Foini village don’t turn left to enter village just go straight, after around 500 meters you will see a turn to right for Chantara water fall.
Turning right you will have to drive in dirt road full of small rocks but for sure worth!
We sat in the rocks in front of the water fall and we enjoy the view and the noise of the water when is falling.
There are stairs in the right side that drives you more closer to the water.

Unbelievable in a way this is actually a church, but that's the beauty of several of these churches under a UNESCO inscription. It's this that got us to visit and I'm very glad we did. The architecture itself is interesting and unusual and the frescoes inside are vivid and beautiful. Can't believe it's been here since 11th century (with various improvements of course). The entrance to the church is free and there's a large enough car park next to the gate and the guardhouse - the car would be your most convenient way of getting there. The church is open and available in normal visiting hours, someone is always there (as opposed to some other paited churches.)

Stopped off at the winery as part of a tour to the Troodos Mountains, not the best, but certainly not the least tasty wine. Not offered large samples, about 20-25ml, just enough to tickle the palate. We bought a white and a rose, neither of which made it back to the UK. Not many visitors buying but we were happy to make a contribution. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

Probably the best village in the area. Beautifully maintained. Such a pleasant difference from the ultra commercialised Omodos. A very delightful old village. Such a pleasure to walk around its cobbled narrow streets and take in the smells from the numerous flowers. Make sure you visit the art studio of Patrick Thompson at the entrance of the village. There are three tavernas. Try the one opposite the art studio.

Tsiakkas winery is found in Pelendri, in the region of Pitsilia. It’s vineyards are also found in the same region. The dry climate of the region in combination with the unique geology, constitutes basic factors for the production of exceptional wines. The cold winters and the cool summertime are ideal for the production of quality grapes, an essential condition for quality wines. Supported by its tradition, the enthusiasm, the love for the wine and the hard work to acquire the know-how, the winery achieved the production of premium wines, for which the care begins from the vineyard. From the highest vineyards of Agros village, with an altitude of 1500 meters, to Petralona. And from Keramis microclimate to the unique characteristics of Agios Ioannis vineyards, the winery combines the best characteristics of the varieties, producing not only wines but also Commandaria and Zivania, with character and intense personality. Tsiakkas winery, not only gives attention to quality, but also has as priority the distribution and culture of indigenous varieties of vine and production of wines combining the tradition and the modern know-how. From the Cyprus varieties it produces Xynisteri, Bambakada (Maratheftiko) and Yiannoudi. Also Commandaria and red Zivania. From the international varieties, it produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay.
This is a family run, small traditional winery established by Costas Tsiakkas and his wife, Maria, in 1988.
There are about 5 hectares of vineyards all situated at an altitude of 1,000 -1,400 metres above sea level. You can sample up to 10 different wines made from their grapes : Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Xynisteri. They are all wonderful, and you get a great warm welcome.

founded in the 12th century, the monastery is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and contains many precious icons and relics.
The church itself is just a spectacular combination of ornate gold and frescos to tell the bible story and to allow the faithful access to a number of spiritual icons. Outside in the monastery area, the galleries are full of spectacular frescos and mosaics. The frescos were painted by 1 man who took 10 years to complete them. Well worth a visit, either as part of a tour or individually by car.
