Nicosia, the capital of the island of Cyprus, has incorporated elements of the many empires and kingdoms that have claimed it over centuries stretching back to the Bronze Age. Narrow winding streets lead visitors from the Cyprus Museum, with its collection of Neolithic and Roman artifacts, to the thick city wall. Built in the 1600s by the Venetians, the wall now divides the ancient part of the city from the modern. Step through the stone gates and enter a place where the past is still alive.

Called for a mid afternoon meal just after arriving in Nicosia. Super clean place in great people watching tourist spot. We ordered a pancetta pizza to share with a bottle of Kaparounda rose. The pizza was very fresh and delicious. The rose was also very good Staff were friendly and attentive but there was a changeover at 5pm and this seemed to cause some disruption with a delay in taking our payment. Not a big issue but just something to consider. Would recommend for a quick cheap meal.

Syrian cuisine. Oriental atmosphere. Delicious mezes and sweets in a friendly environment. Enjoy narghile in many flavors.
Excellent mezze and beautiful ambiance. Too hot however due to high temperature heaters.
Good selection of mezze plates with lots of dips salads and tender meats. Beautiful. Expect 15-20€ per person for full mezze and a drink (or two).
Original Syrian cuisine with bread made on site in traditional wood stove.

Zanettos Cyprus tavern welcomes all who pass through our door as every customer's visit is special. We strive to offer quality Cypriot cuisine the way it has been meant to be. Made fresh every day with only the choicest of local ingredients. Come and visit us!
Large range of meze.
Food is very good.
Not representative of the Cypriot nor the Greek cuisine. It walks the line between the two cuisines. Touches, colours, tastes and smells of both.
Clean establishment.
Neither cheap nor expensive.
Extremely crowded on Friday and Saturday nights.
Don't risk going without a reservation.

With my arrival in the beautiful Island Cyprus many years ago, I carried with me a dream, to create an authentic and traditional Greek tavern that would focus on the flavours of ingloriously lost homeland of Asia Minor. I started out in difficult years surrounded with dark and desolation affected by the visible effects of the invasion and occupation! Slowly and with much love and hard work my tavern had began to acquire life and took strength from the preference and confidence you had in us. I came up with the name of the tavern after much thought. The idea of a 'commercial' name didn’t inspire me at all so I decided to call it “Kathodon” which means “En Route”. “En Route” to the way of freedom. Kathodon survived, strengthened and progressed throughout the years and is now here after 13 years stronger, filled with love, commitment to tradition and quality that was always our aim. We continue always with respect to our customer-friend! I would like to point out where it says somewhere in our menu, “We do not serve hasty and nervous people”. This means that food is prepared fresh once you have ordered and some extra time may be required. We are sure there is no restaurant in the world that does not sometimes make a mistake and if this happens to us we will make sure that we will do everything in our power to make it up to you in the best possible way. Our promise for the future is to continue enriching our menu with forgotten traditional flavours that will take you on a journey leaving a sweet taste lingering in your mouth.. These are a few words about the history of “Kathodon”, we wish you all “bon appetite” and may you all have a pleasant time.
There is something about the atmosphere in this little meze taverna! very friendly staff, tasty food and good service!

This is a great restaurant in the business district and just out of the tourist and shopping areas of town.
I had lunch here with some business colleagues. The lunchtime clientele are mainly local businessmen.
Food choices are excellent, they have everything from a simple moussaka to steaks and fish. I had a halloumi starter in apricot which was delicious, followed by the best moussaka I have had in Cyprus.
Highly recommended and worth going out of your way to eat here if you are in Nicosia.

Traditional wood oven, known for the Armenian Lahmajoun and cheese pie!
One common trait in Cyprus is that restaurants and take-aways have an inverse relationship with quality as they gain popularity. Avo is no exception. Having been a punter from the early days when it was still being discovered by the masses, the quality was top notch. That is why it became so popular, and then it expanded. It turned into an industrial process without the human aspect. They were making huge quantities of lower quality (esp look at the topping of the lahmatzioun) and offered a poorer service - obviously too tired. Now there are others offering a better product at homemade quality.
