The Chesil Rectory is a unique and historic restaurant located in Winchester which occupies a 600 year old grade II listed Medieval house of exceptional character and charm. Independently owned since 2008 by a small group of friends who share a passion for food and wine, the Chesil Rectory offers a modern British menu featuring simple, classic, seasonal dishes and an abundance of fresh local produce.
What a gem of a place, don’t be put of by the proximity to the road, once you are inside you step back in time.
The food was incredibly good, the atmosphere relaxing and restful even on a Saturday afternoon.
I would definitely recommend this superb establishment to anyone looking for a meal in Winchester.
Thank you for making our day so special.

The Black Rat is a quaint and quirky restaurant that is situated on the fringe of the town centre along Chesil Street. A year after opening, the team acquired one of the most prestigious accolades in catering, a Michelin Star. The food is sourced from the best and most local suppliers that can be found, including our own forager, and in turn inspiring the kitchen team to create a "Modern British" menu. The wine comes from a very well established supplier, Ellis of Richmond, who supply some of the top restaurants and hotels in the UK.The atmosphere is relaxed but homely whereas the service is informal but attentive with a personal touch.
Came here with my family for dinner. The staff were fab - knew loads about the menu & couldn't have been more helpful. the food was absolutely delicious - pressed pig's head, Guinea fowl, venison - all delicious. I had the freshly baked madeleines with butterscotch - well worth waiting for. definitely worth a visit but not for the faint hearted.

Our group of 12 visited Tanoshii for dinner yesterday. Was greeted by friendly staff and our table was ready when we arrived. Ordered sake and drinks with sushi and platter for 2 as starters for kids. The platter for 2(£20) was slightly less in quantity than we expected but was delicious. So was the sushi.
Ordered variety of mains and it did not fail to impress. Lamb Rendang was exactly how in remember having it in Bali and so was Nasi goreng. Sizzling chicken was so fresh, soft and delicious. Singapore noodles, Yaki soba, Kung pao - all good and treat to palate. Even better was the red duck curry and its presentation.
Ended with variety of Deserts all served with dry ice which kids enjoyed as well. Service was slow for us, as we had to wait quite a lot to order additional drinks, mains and even bill at the end. Anita came to our table for a chat in the end and did mention that due to Chinese New Year, they are short of kitchen staff. But had enough waiting staff on the restaurant floor.
Hence 4 of 5 stars, but will definitely visit again.

The Bugle Inn is an 18th Century coaching inn located 2 miles from the Historic city of Winchester. Soon to be taken back to its original inn status with B&B rooms opening in January 2014. The Bugle inn is famous for it's locally sourced organic produce, daily changing menu & very locally brewed real ales. The Bugle inn is a training ground for young chefs to develop the skills required for British/French cuisine.
We booked a table for 18.30 on a Thursday and were pleased to find several places in the pub's car park. (The restaurant is so popular that you sometimes have to park far up the lane to the right of the pub). I have always liked there dining room, with its wooden floor, wooden tables and sensibly subdued lighting. The tables were decorated with candles and sweet-smelling white grape hyacinths. I started with mussels in white wine sauces. They were plump and extremely fresh, with a good amount of wine-based liquor at the bottom of the mussel pan. My wife enjoyed her baked camembert dish. She continued with a starter portion of crab, avocado and prawn salad. It was served in a traditional prawn cocktail cup, but best eaten tipped onto a plate. My main was a fillet of Stone Bass in a crab, mussel and potato sauce. Again the fish was beautifully fresh and cooked perfectly. The service was as efficient and friendly as always, with our views on the dishes sought. I had a pint of their very tasty Flowerpot ale, from nearby Cheriton. We enjoyed our evening.

Met a friend here before going on a very wet walk. We walked in with our three dogs and were made very welcome. The pub was really warm and cosy on an awful wet day. The staff were very friendly and efficient coming over to the table and taking our orders for drinks and food. Food was excellent value we both chose deal of the day for a main and pudding at £9.95 you can't go wrong.
Would definitely return and recommend to friends and family.

The new look Forte Kitchen, is now open on Parchment Street in Winchester City Centre. Serving rustic British food, from locally sourced produce, in a relaxed friendly environment. A perfect Haven up away from the busy high street. Come and join us for breakfast, lunch, tea, coffee and cakes, and dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings. We also stock many wines, beers and cider.
chips appeared to have been treated with chemicals but staff denied it. cafe is all upstairs and entrance is very shabby. service and food are good. For a cheaper price you could eat at River Cottage Canteen and have a superb dining experience!

Specialising in Sushi and Sashimi, our menu contains many different dishes that will introduce you to authentic Japanese cuisine.
A small restaurant which was full on the Thursday night when we went , and rightly so. The food is freshly prepared and beautifully presented with a lot of very clean delicate subtle flavours.
I would certainly recommend the Worcester rolls with superb blend of flavours around smoked trout and fresh wasabi grown locally. But then so many dishes were delicious., it is difficult to remember them all.
An excellent culinary experience.

Experience the real taste of Italy in the heart of the city for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a quick drink. We also stock a range of traditional Italian specialities, from our deli counter. Take a break from your day with a great atmosphere and great company at Tom's Deli. Our fresh, tasty and flavoursome menu is made from products that come direct from Italy. We're a unique friendly community in the heart of Winchester, where you can meet, network and make friends - echoing the Italian espresso bars of old.
We were a walk in early on Saturday night. Only a couple of tables were free (it's a small place!), but we were happily shown one at the window, which we could have for 'one hour'. Well, the service is fast so we managed some olives and bruschetta, pasta and pizza, plus a shared dessert in a little over that hour. It's not a place to linger of a long meal, but the food was authentic and the service fat and fun. Great fun for a quick and informal meal.

Despite living very locally, myself and my partner had never eaten at The Plough, until Sunday just gone. Across the board the prices were very reasonable, especially given the generous portions, for both starters and mains.
The food quality was great, my Burger was very tasty, and my girlfriend's beef roast looked lovely too!
Based on this visit we will certainly be returning, and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place to eat in and around Winchester.

We booked the whole restaurant for 50 men and enjoyed a wonderful set menu with great hosts from the Gurkha's Inn team. The convivial environment was perfect for us all to hear a little about how the Rev Andy Bowerman provides support to the Southampton football club team. He tells them there are three lies: you are as good as what you do, you are what you earn and you are what others think of you. How relevant to us all!
The food and service was excellent and helped us make the evening very special.
