This is what Bristol surely was used to look like. A vast port with many sailing vessels, old dockbuildings and traditional taverns. The few modern buildings are either of the old age of trade, or cleverly designed. Worth a visit!

Typical for this famous street in Flensburg are the small patios to be found on the right and left side of the red street. Here you can find some exclusive shops or fine restaurants - everything is beautifully decorated in the typical German style. The decorations during the Christmas time are simply charming and the atmosphere is very warm and relaxing.
We particularly liked the wine shop "Wein & Rumhaus Braasch" where the punsch is perfect for cold days and the "Alte Kaffeerösterei" selling flavorful coffee and delicious cakes.

I was attending a conference at the University of Flensburg and they held an event here one evening. The interactive science exhibits were even fun for adult scientists, but simple enough for their students. The Director was very approachable, knowledgeable, and funny. Highly recommend this be a stop if you're in town!

What is there to say really - it's a simple Lutheran church but notable for its unusual organ which combines "modern" romantic and baroque organ systems played from the same keyboard. There is an English language information leaflet available.

I like this shopping centre very much. I have been here 2 times the last 2 years running. Many nice shops and a big conveniencestore with food and beverages. A special touch is the tax-free shopping for scandinavians regarding drinks :-)
Take a trip here and you will return for more..

Just located south of the Marienkirche, this is a lovely town square with a small central Fountain. Just relax, take a seat in one of its cafes and soak in the atmosphere. Then its time to do window-shopping along Flensburg's main pedestrian street.

Since we last came the exhibition on the Danish Islands, Flensburg, and slavery, has opened on the top floor. Danish colonial history used to be rather conveniently forgotten, because they sold their Caribbean Islands to the USA back in 1917 (now US Virgin Islands). This story boards in this area include English, and it is a most worthwhile addition to this excellent little maritime museum.

The church lies just off the main street, in a quiet courtyard. Although the altarpiece is large and highly decorated, it's the painted wall monuments of the Beyer family that are a real surprise. They date from late 16th century and as well as having religious scenes, show the town and local landscape as it was at the time. There is a magnificent bronze font dated 1591, supported by the four evangelists, the work of local craftsman Michael Dibler. Large areas of the walls and ceiling are decorated with frescoes from the 15th century, while many of the stained glass windows were designed and made by local artist Kate Lassen, who died in 1956. In a side chapel there are some fine Art Noveau chairs and a wooden altar piece dating from 1906. Altogether a very impressive collection of furnishings. There are well illustrated guide books in Danish and German (but not English).

Very interesting to see the museum boats being renovated. Very cosy environment at the old harbour filled with a broad variety of old ships and boats.

This is a solid reminder of Flensburg's Danish past, and when we visited it was an oasis of calm away from the Christmas bustle. Lots of things to admire, with the two votive ships being of particular interest to me. The surviving medieval wall paintings are a delight.
