See the world's only working steam powered weaving mill bring the past to life. A rare chance to re-live the days when steam ran the world!
Fabulous. A room full of machines..which still work. Lots of different types of machines doing different jobs...all working and demonstrated. The huge steam engine on top floor comes on several times a day. This generates the power needed to work the main weaving machines. The noise is tremendous.. hard to imagine how it must have been working there.
Nice little cafe and shop too. Very reasonably priced. We loved it.

Gawthorpe Hall is a superb Jacobean historic house, nestled in the shadow of Pendle Hill, east Lancashire. Built between 1600 and 1605 for the Shuttleworth family it had an iconic and important role in the local area. On a visit you can see the original seventeenth century panelling and plasterwork in the Drawing Room; period Victorian rooms redesigned by sir Charles Barry (architect of Houses of Parliament) showing what life was like for the family in the 1890s and enjoy the splendour of the Long Gallery. The hall also has fabulous furniture, paintings and the Gawthorpe Textile Collection displays on the first floor.
The guides spoke clearly and passionately and really brought Gawthorpe Hall to life learned so much, this is the best National Trust property I have been to, although in the book it said it opened at 11 when it opened at 12. Why are they not open in a morning

At £18 per head for two hours it seems a little pricey for what it is.
A nice spa though clientele can be odd, someone was even using the Spa with a mobile phone in hand when I was there recently!
Being in Nelson, not the most salubrious town in the world, then it can be a bit hit and miss. Notably closed on a Monday

This was my first visit and was very surprised by its layout. Started with a visit to the tearoom for morning coffee. Excellent with very pleasant staff who couldn't do enough for us. Browsed the shopping area and was able to buy quite a few Christmas presents. Cashiers very polite and helpful. All in all a very pleasant visit.

Site of 17th-century witch trials.
Great country pub we have been there a few times now. We went there again on New Year Day to celebrate our Son birthday. Delicious dishes in a fantastic environment and impeccable service. Prices are very reasonable. Definitely worth a visit. It's perfect place for either a special evening meal or a snack/drink after a long walk up Pendle Hill. BTW this pub is Dog friendly.

We wanted to try something a little different this year for my sons party and having had a go at archery at a couple of events with wood sage we decided to book a party. We went for nerf combat and air rifle. The place itself is huge and you can see the scouts doing other activities whilst you are there and without a doubt we will be back to try that zip wire!!
Overall we had 15 boisterous boys who didn't stop. They had a superb time playing various games with a break in the middle so they could cook their own sausages on an open fire in the teepee. Simon was fantastic with them. My partner wants to work/live/play there (he's only 39....) I can't stress enough how much the boys enjoyed it, I've had loads of messages saying from parents saying their children are still talking about it. 10/10. Thank you, so much.

Great little centre with a value for money tour which includes DVD showing of the Pendle Witch Trials. Lovely cafe inside with a good choice of snacks and drinks.
The Centre is next to Barrowford Park which has a variety of playground rides for children and exercise apparatus for both young and old. Plenty of grass area for picnics and some nice little shops in Barrowford itself.

We visited Animal Quackers today and we absolutely enjoyed it! Our little boy loved the birds and snake and the part where you get to hold the animals.
Amazing and friendly staff, proper down to earth! Price is very modest and food is not bad too! Would highly recommend for young families.

Visited with young grand children . All the exhibits were interesting and not too much. The stuffed animals were unusual and the staff very friendly. We went up to the play area after so all good fun.
