Delicious home cooked meals using locally sourced quality ingredients, daily changing specials, all day breakfasts, fresh home-baked scones, cakes and teacakes, sweet treats, milkshakes, fruit smoothies, and the very best Lavazza coffee.
Very good breakfast with two rounds of toast white or granary plenty of food on the plate that was well cooked. The coffee was very pleasing. Staff were helpful and pleasant. This restaurant is very central in Penrith out of either door to shops. It is relatively gloomy (to me) inside.

A pretty and tranquil walled Tea Garden with seasonal opening and unusual hours, depending on your mode of arrival. Open to walkers Fridays 12-6 Sat Sun & Bank Holidays 10-5pm in summer - June July & August. No parking on site, please use village car park 300 yds away & walk here - or park carefully 150 yds away -away from the corner towards the village. We are open to those arriving on bicycles every day June July 10am to 5pm. In the event we are unable to serve you (at certain times) those arriving in bicycles can use the Cyclists barn. Strictly this facility is not open to walkers. As a simple walled Tea Garden we have gazebos for shelter, an unheated barn & blankets. We're beyond the village green in Greystoke (dir. Blencowe) with a fine view of Greystoke Castle estate, friendly free range hens and soft cats. We welcome all well behaved children & their parents and dogs on leads. Light lunches, mostly veggie, cream teas, Aga baking, soups, pasta, tarts, Gluten free options.
Here for a two day silver jewellery workshop which was great. Annie and her team took great care of us serving home made biscuits, cake, soup and desserts. Really enjoyed the friendliness of everyone involved. Will pop by next summer when the cafe is open...!!

Stopped for lunch after searching trip advisor for a gluten free restaurant in Penrith.
The chef was extremely friendly and helpful. She went out of her way to help with food choices that were gluten free even though they were not on the lunch menu.
The food was delicious and sitting by a fire on a wet windy day was perfect.
We would definitely visit again and are thinking of using the accommodation.
I am assuming the breakfast will be as good as our lunch.
Gluten free bread was provided which is a nice touch.

Booked a table with my children and their grandfather who lives locally.
We were greeted really well and immediately made to feel welcome.
We were offered a table in the busy bar area or upstairs in the main dining room. We chose the d8ning room which was super with great views.
The food was super quality and we all enjoyed the food we had chosen.
The service was great and the price was excellent.
We will certainly be going back and can’t understand why we have not been before.

Most atmospheric 17th century Lake District country Inn. Near Ullswater & M6 J40, Penrith. Oak beams, romantic inglenooks, cosy fires & candlelight. Sunlit country garden. Cask ales.
Booked a table on a Saturday night with friends and had a really good night here. A good selection of drinks, with a few real ales from the Eden Brewery. Friendly and helpful service throughout.
A small menu that was executed well and we all enjoyed it. The cost was reasonable for the standard of food served.
I had the Jerusalem artichoke and mushroom bake, which was very tasty. It was also my gripe from the night due to it being advertised as vegetarian (the only option on the menu). I am not vegetarian, but you cannot advertise a dish as vegetarian when it isn't. Parmesan is not a vegetarian cheese and so they need to find a substitute for this.
The dessert of chocolate mousse with cherries is also highly recommended.
All in all a really good venue, but please work on the vegetarian menu.

Award winning food, real ales, a notable wine list, roaring fires in winter and a friendly team whose intention it is for you to walk out feeling wonderful – The Highland Drove is a country inn and pub where locals and visitors alike have found a home from home in the Eden Valley, a little piece of paradise. It’s the sort of place on a first visit you walk in as a customer and leave as a friend.
Chose this pub en route to our hotel and what a find. Immediately welcomed by the landlard in an atmospheric building. Menu was good ,along with a specials board, which the landlord brought over on computer for us. Both the meals we had were fabulous,...MoreHi Lin, it's wonderful to read your review, we're delighted you enjoyed the food and wine during your visit. We do hope to see you again in future, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. Best wishes, Donald

Granny Dowbekin's is a traditional English tearoom and tea garden at the Northern tip of Ullswater and by the River Eamont. Breakfast, main meals and homemade cakes and scones are served all day. We always offer a selection of vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free options as part of the menu as well as smaller portions for children and those with smaller appetites. For our full menu and prices please have a look at our website. We welcome walkers, cyclists and well behaved dogs. Bookings for groups of up to 40 persons are welcome. Granny Dowbekin's is licensed to serve alcohol from 12pm when accompanied by food. Free wifi is available.
Visited Granny Dowbekin’s last week for breakfast as we were leaving the ullswater area. Staff were very polite and the food reasonably priced considering the quality of ingredients used, all very fresh! I would defiantly recommend the full English breakfast. Very good experience here and would 100% return if I’m ever in the area again.

Freshly daily selected ingredients, prepared and cooked on site, with Menu catering for vegetarian and vegan options Gluten free on request. The food we prepare and serve is Nourishing, Aromatic, very tasty, succulent, uncsious and contains all the five flavours for a well balanced diet for the most decerning Palate. Including Sweet, Sour, Astringent,Pungent,And Salty, in perfectly measured proportions. Altogether probably the best Thai food experience in the UK.
I recently visited the thai food cafe and orded the lunch time special for £6.99 +£1.75 for a soft drink which is a very reasonable deal considering you get 3 courses.
I orded the Stir-fried Chicken With Cashew-nuts in a mild thai chicken stock/sauce and boild rice and vegetables.
And finished it off with a glass of diet coke
My meal started with free prawn crackers and then a mixed platter of starters which included 1x mini prawn toast 1x Mini spring roll 1x mini Thai fish cake.
Every-time I come to this cafe I am never disapointed my thanks have to once again go to the whole family who owns and runs this little gem of a restaurant.
Yours sincerly
Kwan Ming.

Family Run Wine Bar Bistro, Serving High Quality Fresh Food, Chef/Proprietor. Outstanding Reputation.
This was another recommendation given to us during our stay in Penrith and because of this we went in, as the exterior needs a face lift and didn't look very inviting. Inside there is a chair lift up the stairs to the small restaurant enabling disabled access.Very friendly staff, who couldn't do enough for us but were not 'in your face' There was a set menu of 2 or 3 courses and the choices, although limited, would please most people. The quality of the food for a set £21 for 3 courses of fine dining without prentention, was EXCELLENT, well presented and very tasty. The down side could be the wait between courses. I don't mind slow service between courses, it was 35mins starter to main, but some may object,as it is a matter of personal preference.
