The host family were friendly and attentive, and very patient - we chatted for ages after our meal was finished and stayed in total about 3 hours. This place is a short cab ride out from the main tourist strip, but well worth it. We had the house menu, which comes with sides and we finished with rum. The place was quiet with only us and some other locals, but we were introduced to the family and treated so generously. Would definitely recommend!

Initially recommended to us by Anita at Villa Cristal, Vinales.
Its really one of the most amazing places in Vinales from where you can observe all the valley, nice personnel will serve you with cuban dishes and cold drinks, fresh juices are especially good. And even if you just come to watch the scene - they will never disturb you.

Everyone had warned us that food in Cuban restaurants was generally poor. We didn't find this to be the case. Most were average, some above average, and occasionally gems like this wowed us. Whilst most restaurants have people outside enticing you in, El Olivo didn't. They didn't have to. The word was out. We arrived and saw it was completely full, but not to be deterred, we waited until a table became free at the back. Simply stunning food, with a special mention to their rabbit cooked in a dark chocolate sauce. It shouldn't have worked, but it was perfect.

Stoped to eat for lunch during our cycling holiday. Good food and Cuban drinks. Every place we went to eat in Cuba there was music, it's all live bands it's just wonderful, and most of the band are selling their DVDs.

We went to Alberto Vitamina's paladar Bella Vista during our day out in Vinales for lunch. The paladar is situated a little outside of Vinales which makes it a real rural experience with fantastic views of the landscape. The paladar consists of various small buildings, the restaurant is 'in the open' but with a roof. We have been hosted by the lady of the house and she looked after us very well. We felt home from the first moment and it was the most homely experience we had during our two weeks in Cuba. The food was simple (pork roast, rice, black beans), but cooked extremely well. The salad from her garden was so fresh and tasty and so was the coffee. The coffee beans originating from their garden as well were grinded just before serving. It was the best coffee I had in my life! There were baby chickens running around just outside the paladar, there were vegetable fields and we felt really close to Cuban nature. At the end, we met Alberto Vitamina himself who was just rolling his cigar outside when we left. We had a nice chat with him as well. Highly recommended!

We had breakfast here and the view was outstanding! Service was excellent, coffee was surprisingly good, and the food was extremely fresh -- included eggs, fresh pineapple and papaya, guava jelly and butter with bread, mango juice, and a few other things. Best part? All of this cost us $5 USD/CUC per person. Outstanding.

This is a very nice and perhaps one of the best restaurants / bars in Vinales. Some of the tapas can be comparable with the tapas served in San Sebastian (the best city in Spain to eat tapas)! The staff is very professional and helpful. On the day of our departure we where about to be ripped of on a trip we agreed on (the day before) from Vinales to Havana. We turned to the staff of 3J Bar de Tapas for support who quickly helped us out with alternative transportation.

During our recent holiday to Cuba, my wife and I stayed in the small town of Vinales for three nights. The countryside around there is fabulous, but it is fair to say that the overall quality of food is not that memorable. The one exception was La Cuenca, with its impressive black and white décor - and food to match!
The risotto I had when we ate there was one of the best I have ever had, and the attentive waiters made the whole experience most enjoyable.
If ever you go to Vinales, make sure you give this place a try.

We were recommended this place by the hosts at our casa. When we arrived we were asked what casa recommended us before being seated. This is obviously somewhere that favours the more popular hosts and it was clear due to the casa we were from we were ‘low priority’.
This place offers a set menu buffet, offering crisps, rice, salad and a main. I assume the BBQ chicken is their speciality (you walk past a chef barbecuing on arrival) but I wouldn’t have known as the service was terrible and gave us no information, unlike the other tables that were gushed over. I ordered the roast fish hoping it would be bbq’d and my friend hoped the same when ordering the grilled chicken. Why we were not told the special is baffling!
Service was horrendous, other tables were served before us and got some dishes before we had even ordered when we had arrived first. When we got our soup i asked if it was vegetable unhelpfully I was informed that it was soup. Our other dishes were just put on the table and the waitess just walked away. Meanwhile other tables were having explanations about the dishes they were being served, leaving us to eavesdrop to find out what we were eating.
There are no prices on the menu, it was 30 for two mains and two glasses of wine, which was quite expensive. The wine was overpriced (5CUC), the grilled chicken was a tiny portion (12 CUC), my roast fish (bbq’d) was really nice but the whole experience was ruined by the service. Had the service been uniformly bad I wouldn’t have cared but because tables around us were being favoured it was extremely irritating. I fed this back to my casa and warned off the new guests who came to stay with them.
