Valle de Vinales

Reviewed By CockneyRed - Ibiza, Spain

After 4 days/nights in Havana cramming as much as possible, Valle de Vinales is the perfect Antidote. Beautifully green with stunning countryside, the delightful small town of Vinales is the perfect springboard to discover the region.
We visited the spooky caves at San Tomas, a tobacco plantation and a coffee plantation, whilst the restaurants along the main strip of Vinales are excellent. Special mention must go to El Olivo, truly special. Any visiter to Cuba should make an effort to get here.

Jardin Botanico de Vinales

Jardin Botanico de Viñales, which is located a little outside town, is absolutely worth going! Stroll around and look at all the beautiful plants. The garden is nicely maintained and there is a coffee shop inside. November might not be the best time for a visit as many plants do not flower.

Cueva del Indio

Reviewed By RandyRoss - Ridgetown

The river within the cave actually runs for 8 kilometers according to our guide on the boat. However, this tour only covers a very small part of it. Initially, one walks into the cave and then there is the short boat trip. This was a very nice stop on our Vinales bus tour (from our hotel in Havana) but would not be something that one would drive from Havana for. The beautiful Vinales Park and rock formations is what one visits the area to see.

Palenque de los Cimarrones

Reviewed By Ian C - London, United Kingdom

More caves, this time El Palenque of the Macaroons in Vinales, showing the life of African slaves who had escaped the plantation owners and lived here in the caves, ending with a restaurant designed like an African village, complete with stocks and chains, with reminders of the Yoruba religious beliefs and art relating to African-Cuban culture. Outside there are still tocacco plantations and drying-barns, traditionally constructed from palm trees and covered with palm leaves.

Iglesia del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus

....beautiful simply decorated church, set in a square in the heart of the village. Tall trees frame it and seats are located around the square perimeter in the shade. This is the towns WIFI hotspot and lovely to sit here with the sun setting, people watch and connect with the world.
