Up market very expensive coffee house in prime position. Outdoor Terrace with comfortable Seating and partial view of the Lake. Good panini and excellent cakes served by a very pleasant young lady. Whole thing spoilt by very unpleasant man who brought the bill, saying in a loud voice "Service not included". Now, we may be ignorant foreigners, but we speak passable Hungarian and have visited the country many times. We know it is customary to leave a few small coins on the table, not to pay a service charge. Cash only (sure I've paid by card before as the bill is always quite large) so I carefully counted out the exact amount, 6,150 HUF. Said waiter took this with a somewhat bad grace, returning a couple of minutes later with a bill in his hand for 6,950 HUF saying "You made a mistake". I was about to pay him the extra 800 HUF (about £3) when I saw our original bill for 6,150. No mistake on his part; he was just trying to palm off the wrong bill. After the sweet cakes, a very sour note.

Besides having the most wonderful and eye-catching view of the peninsula from our Terrace in the golden brigthness of the rising sun, we look forward to welcoming our guests with a renewed range of foods and beverages. We encourage our visitors to take advantage of the natural beauty provided by the "golden bridge" and have your breakfast at us from 1 May 2017.
With its superb location, in the vicinity of the famous Tihany abbey and with great view to lake Balaton this place could be one of the biggest shots in Tihany. Its cakes are good as well. However, the staff is somehow not only not welcoming, but sometimes behaves like ignorant fools. No traces of the good old Hungarian hospitability the abbey is so proud of. This should be corrected somehow, probably with better motivation methods for the staff.

The Karolina restaurant is located at the Echo Residence hotel partway up the hill on Tihany. As it’s on a narrow sidestreet, it’s not so easy to find, so use a navigation system if you have one. There is free parking on the premises, spread out about the grounds.
We’ve been eating in restaurants in the northern Balaton area for over 20 years and it’s not an exaggeration to say that the meal here was one of the best we’ve ever had. We sat outside on the garden Terrace, which has partial views of the lake, and there was pleasant background music piped in. Our waitress, who also took our reservation (recommended at least in the busy summer months), was truly delightful and tried hard to communicate with us in a mixture of German and English, as we do not speak Hungarian.
Along with glasses of light wine, we had lovely composed salads, a chicken and dumpling dish, and terrific crispy pork belly with mashed potatoes. Dessert was cottage cheese dumplings and a creamy Napolean-like pastry. The only tiny negative thing to mention is that the pork dish was not piping hot. Otherwise we were completely satisfied with the meal and hope to return here often in the future. A 12% service charge was included in the check.
Tip: if you sit outside in the evening, spray yourself with mosquito repellent beforehand. Otherwise the bugs will enjoy a feast of their own!

The restaurant was OK, it was a second time that we visited. We had our meal outside, fighting with some mosquitoes…
They serve huge portions, it was just too big for one person. Most of the guests in the restaurants were from Germany (BMI index between 28-35!) so that might be an explanation! :-)
Fisherman's soup was too dense, with a lot of bones in it...
If you are not hungry like a wolf, or not as fat as “Eric Cartman”, just share the dishes. :-) Or they could pack it for you to takeaway.

This was our first experience of a Hungarian restaurant. Despite being with Hungarian friends we were still offered an English menu by a very friendly English speaking waiter.
Having made our selection we sat and relaxed in the Sunshine in the pretty and cozy courtyard. Our friends have a six year old daughter who didn't want a meal of her own but we were supplied with a spare plate to enable her to share with us.
The food was plentiful and delicious.
Our friends persuaded us to try Palinka - traditional Hungarian fire water. My husband managed to upset his glass which resulted in him wearing most of it. The waiter produced the bottle and topped his glass up free of charge.
With a total bill of £46 for four adults including drinks this represents excellent value in a lovely setting.

We had lunch at Halászkert restaurant with friends. Fish soup, duck and trout are highly recommended, all were super delicious. Service was average. Prices are fair. Parking was free during our stay which is a good point bearing in mind, that you have to pay everywhere for parking in Balatonfüred and it's quite pricy.

Baricska Csarda is in odd environment, between ancestor grapes in the heart of Balatonfured - from the ship harbour, and from Tagore Promenade onto cca. 600 metres. From the Terrace, wich is covered with the wild vine there is a magnificent view overlooks to the lake Balaton. In 1811 formed Csarda re-open was in early summer in 2013. since then there has not only excellent fish from the lake and offers traditional cuisine, yet stays true to tradition after all in very good quality. The re-opening Baricska Restaurant operators - who directed the excellent Chianti restaurant in Veszprem - is an important new target set themselves. Let this catering establishment be the gastronomy, the wine culture, and a sanctuary of the culture that advertises the traditions of the neighbourhood wineries and Hungarian food making, his fame. The restaurant is on the central place of Balatonfured, from the 71 main road to the north finds, (The Shell petrol station on an access road which can be found at his entrance to approach). There is a beautiful Panorama overlooks the ancestor grapes, and onto Balaton, Tihany Peninsula.Ratings:Best 'csarda' in Hungary. Hungarian Cuisine MagazineBest 'csarda' at Lake Balaton. Baricska is regarded as one of the best restaurants around Lake Balaton so I went with very high expectations and I left mostly satisfied.
The place itself is a "recreation" of the old style Hungarian wayside inns, with live gypsy music (in the evenings), huge Terrace covered with ivy and wooden chairs/tables. I have to say the atmosphere is as good as it gets in its category, you feel like time travelling.
The menu consists mostly of Hungarian dishes (beef stew, duck with saurkrat, wiener schnitzel, etc), using high quality ingredients.
What we tried:
- Pickled cucumber cream soup - bit too acidic but very refreshing in a hot summer evening
- Daily soup which was cold pear cream soup - good
- Wiener schnitzel (pork tenderloin) -simply perfect, juice inside, crispy outside
- Fried sturgeon fillet with sturgeon sausage and celery gratin - maybe it was my fault of ordering a non-Hungarian dish or maybe my expectations were too high but I was not that impressed. It was tasty don't take me wrong but I missed that extra oomph that I felt with the wiener schnitzel.
- Somloi sponge cake - I'm not a big fan of this dish but gave it a try in case they know some magic. It was okay nothing special.
For the above menu plus a bottle of mineral water we paid around 11k HUF and was happy to pay a tip, service was professional.
Overall, we had a nice evening, everything tasted good. I'd return again and can recommend Baricska (in the weekends reserve a table).

Artisian Gelato at the heart of Lake Balaton.
I started out with one scoop and ended with 5 on the first day...kept going back...At the end of my 3rd day, which was my last day, I tried 20 sorts of ice and I was still not finished...but I could not eat anymore. Even if you don't like ice, this will break your habit, is sooo good!!

First of all, what I have to mention: we were in both Bergmann's. We visited them on different dates. The sweets are excellent. Captain Morgan and Mimoza Cake are our two must eats, when we are there and I regularly offer this Patisserie, when someone ask me, which place I like the most in Balatonfured. The whole design of the place is so nice and inviting. We can tell about it both Bergmann's.
The hardest point what we have to talk about is the service: we met only one nice lady, the rest of the team is just so unfriendly, unpolite, and it seems to work and care about the costumers are pain for them. It is just so sad. You can not sell your best cakes with people like most of them. You can give the sweetest thing, if a customer have to wait 15 minutes, standing in front of the cakes, and the lady who stands opposite does not give a (you know what) to say just a hello, or something, or I have to beg a glass of water next to my cake, and the waiter looks at me like he hates me already, they would not come back again. Or they will, but not with a good feeling. Having the best of something is not enough, you have to sell it. And the weakest point of this business is the service, from 5 people, 4 will say this.

Some said we are alternative, but our business is very simple, we have our own bio farm (25 km from the restaurant), and we bring most of the high quality ingredients from there. Our focus is on the ingredients, "good food, no design" style means we cook carefully, don't use not necessary design elements.
After giving a comment that the food was nothing special, the service was slow and the returned change was less than it should have been, someone (without name) replied that i did not paid for my bill but because my post now the police can...MoreThere was no complain, no reflection, nothing...you and your friends just simply walked away- without payment.
