Getting too the memorial cross is half the fun.. Along the way stop at the numerous Gardens. My favourite was Forest Glade. At the cross itself it’s a easy walk and also accessible for wheelchairs. Great views and an awe inspiring giant cross. The cafe at car park is quite nice as well

the view across to Melbourne CBD is awesome. the memorial garden had wonderful planting which will be at its best in the next month, which i would love to have seen. the infirmation explaining the history of the Cross is excellent. the cafe offered welcome hot food and drinks with a wonderful view. in summer, you can admire this view from the Terrace. ample parking. someone should invest some time in the gift shop to extend the range on offer.

Paramoor Winery was established in 2005 by Will Fraser, and is already one of the most popular and awarded wineries in the Macedon Ranges.A boutique operation, Paramoor Winery is not about mass production. Quality always comes before quantity – and there is quality in everything the winery does. From the meticulous selection of grapes for Paramoor’s wine, to the perfectly elegant homemade pizzas that are served at the cellar door, every detail is considered… and the results speak for themselves. In just a short time Paramoor’s wines have attracted international recognition, with high praise coming from the likes of Australia’s most recognised wine critic, James Halliday, who has awarded Paramoor 5 stars and called Paramoor an ‘excellent producer of very high quality wines’ and has judged several Paramoor wines to be among the best in the nation. Paramoor Winery’s cellar door tasting and sales area, converted from old stables, draws a crowd as much for its relaxed ambience and thoughtful displays of history, as for its outstanding wines and pizza. A visit to Paramoor is a must for anyone touring the picturesque Macedon Ranges. Paramoor Winery ….. award winning wines, great food, and a cellar door that is fast becoming the most talked about in the region.
Lovely pit stop on the way back home to Melbourne from our weekend trip to Daylesford. Kathleen was warm, accommodating, knowledgable and gave generous pours of the wines on offer.

The Hanging Rock Winery was established in 1983 in the Macedon Ranges (Australia’s Coolest grape growing region), one hour drive from Melbourne, Victoria. The property was purchased by John & Ann Ellis who between them already had around 30 years industry of experience. Their aim was to make Australia’s best sparkling wine. Many who should know, believe that they have achieved this with their Macedon NV Brut L.D. Whilst they decided to build the dream in the Macedon Ranges their other passion has always been Heathcote as an outstanding Shiraz growing region. In 1994 they, and co-owner Athol Guy (of ‘Seekers’ fame), planted the ‘Athol’s Paddock’ Vineyard to produce the now iconic ‘Heathcote Shiraz’. Since then Hanging Rock has produced 2 other Heathcote Shiraz’s to showcase the styles the region can produce. The Hanging Rock Winery selects premium grapes from areas of Victoria best suited to that particular variety, as a result we have a wide range of wines to suit most styles and tastes.
Seriously disappointing. Me and my partner visited for a tasting over the long weekend. When we arrived there was only a couple of other people there. The man didn't greet us or even say hello. As we approached the tasting bench he looked at us and said nothing, we had to ask to try some of the wines at which he merely grunted. We tried making a little conversation but was completely pointless, he occasionally mentioned how many medals some of the wines had received but that was it. We felt so unwelcome that when we were finished tasting we decided we didn't want to purchase any wine, we said goodbye and thanks - in return he said nothing but scoffed and rolled his eyes in plain view. Can not get over the rudeness of this man!!! Little did he know that my partner is in the industry as I have been in the past as well. We have been to numerous cellar doors over the years and this was hands down the worst experience I have ever had. Definitely not coming back.

This park has something for children of all ages. The youngest children have their own fenced off playground where they can safely wander. The flying fox was a big hit. There are several picnic areas and walking tracks. It was very popular with families.

The generousity of Castlemaine businesman and collector Stuart R. Stoneman is amazing. The well preserved 1875 Italianate style hill station is one of only four hill station residences at Mount Macedon believed to have been built in the 1870s that survived the devastating 1983 bushfires.
The homestead is full of his collection of art, furniture and books. Tours of the house, art collection and garden are available. Bookings are essential.
There is also a diverse and interesting programme of Literary and musical events.
The extensive garden is also of great interest for its rare and historically important botanical specimens and notable avenues of trees. The southern area of the 15.4 hectare site has a park-like landscape with an informal planting scheme, and includes many significant conifers, broad-leaved deciduous trees, rhododendrons and other cool climate plants. The northern half of the property contains orchards of fruit and chestnut trees and paddocks for stock.
