Brilliant. All 5 of us thoroughly enjoyed cooking together and learning about some of the local produce. Run by a lovely English family. The choice of dishes to cook was perfect and even though it stretched two of my daughters, they are now willing to try different foods which is a bonus. Thank you

Very easy to do the booking over the internet, and to have the bikes delivered and collected at agreed times. Our road bikes (Lapierre) were excellent, well maintained and great to ride. The best bit was the local knowledge and advice Robert gave us on where best to see the Tour de France, local routes and sites to see. The colour map and routes Robert gave us was better than the IGN map I had with me. No need to bring your own tubes, tools, pumps, spare tyres ets - Robert provides the lot. Highly recommended.

We had picked 3 caves to go too, and this was one of them. We weren't disappointed. They allow only a limited number of people to visit at a time, but well worth it. You purchase your tickets at Font de Gaume and then it is just a few kilometers away. Amazing cave paintings to see. Highly recommend.

When we arrived at the schedule 2:30pm the owners were partaking in a picnic lunch and asked us to wander the 500 meters to the cave entrance and wait, they assured us they would be a few minutes.
When we arrived there was another person who had been waiting an hour and a half! After over 30 minutes of waiting there was still no sign of the guide so we walked back to the main entrance only to find they were still having their lunch and there was no sign of it coming to a conclusion. In the meantime several other groups had been sent up to the caves. By then they were still tucking into their lunch nearly an hour after the scheduled tour time.
This is inconsiderate and unacceptable. This is particularly bad as there are many sights in the area and we were trying to pack in as many as possible and so we missed the opportunity to visit 1 or two more due to this. It would not have been so bad if they had told us to return at 3:30 when they had finished their picnic!
The cost of admission for 2 adults and 2 children in 25 euros. This is the same price as La Roque Saint-Christophe nearby which is a superb attraction and very professionally run. If you charge a premium price at least give your customers a decent service.

This is a beautiful part of the country and well worth seeing, the views over the river and fields, the old stone buildings and narrow cobbled laneways make you feel like you've travelled back in time. This is picture book scenery.

Found the place after seeing a flyer at our hotel. We opted for individual kayaks and the 14km course that runs from Vitrac bavk to base, past charming villages such as La roque Gageac and Beynac. We were there in the off season so no one else on the river which made for a pleasant half day trip! I would have given this a 5 star review had it not been for the slightly annoying owner who didn't give us any safety brief or indication how to steer. Just dumped us on the river bank and off we were! Wasn't much of an issue for us as we'd kayaked before but I imagine it might be an issue for beginners who might feel uncomfortable on the river for the first time. Will consider coming back though and this time were trying the 28km itinerary! Note: no one was there to welcome us back on base when we arrived so we just left the kayaks on the river bank along with the paddles and life vests. Glad we didn't wait for someone to show up as we spotted the guy driving past a nearby village more than 30 minutes later!

Les Cabanes du Breuil is located between Sarlat (9 km) and Les Eyzies (12 km). We visited it on our way back from Grotte de Ruffignac (close to Les Eyzies) to Sarlat. It comprise mainly of a group of outbuildings of a farm dating from 19th century. The buildings are all topped with a high dry stone corbelled vault with a roofing of stone tiles. This type of roof is quite characteristic of old buildings in this area. So it is interesting to get a close look from the inside. The site is not big. It can be toured easily in 30 minutes. The old farm and the grounds speak of a bygone day.

Chateau des Milandes

This 15th-century castle was the home of Josephine Baker.

Reviewed By hugh m - Seattle, Washington

Chateau des Milandes sits between the Castles of Beynac and Castelnau in the Dordogne valley. Built in 1489, it tells the story of some of the great French families through the ages.
In 1938 Josephine Baker, who achieved fame and fortune as a singer and entertainer in France, discovered the Chateau and made it her home for 30 years. Josephine was born in St.Louis Missouri in poverty but used her talents to entertain some of France's elite in the Follies Bergère, among other venues. While living in Chateau des Milandes she and her husband adopted twelve children from different countries around the world. These children, The Rainbow Tribe, grew up in Chateau des Milandes. Josephine wanted to demonstrate that integration was more important than segregation, to which she was subjected in her early life.
The life and times of the Chateau along with the splendid Gardens are well documented taking an individual audio tour, available in several different languages. Displays of Josephine's courageous work during the Second World War are included.
The Birds of Prey demonstration is excellent and includes audience participation.
Special thanks to M. et Mme Labarre for their passion in restoring this great Castle.
