Futuroscope

With more than 50 million visitors since it opened, Futuroscope is one one of France’s most popular amusement parks and the only one of its kind in Europe. Futuroscope is the ideal place to relax in, with 60 hectares of tranquil green countryside and 25 original experiences you won't find anywhere else: films in giant format, thrill-filled attractions, 3D rides with 4D effects, games, live shows, open-air activities, and more. The spectacular theatres inside Futuroscope are gigantic sculptures and their futuristic lines blend in smoothly with the surrounding landscape. Discovery and thrills guaranteed for everyone, young and old!

We were lucky to visit the park a day where less than 5000 people were in. Which means ... no waiting time at attractions and of course this change completely the experience in an attraction park. But anyway, this park is a fantastic combination between technology, shows, discoveries and attractions ... Nicely done (perhaps now a bit obsolete versus the future, which was the original idea) but a great time to spend. Diversity in the attractions (from magic show, to 4 D experiences and a 3D movie). To be done !

Brantome Police Horses & Friends

Providing a loving and final home for retired British Police horses. Brantome Police Horses provides care and rehabilitation for many horses and ponies alongside donkeys, dogs, cats, sheep, goats and chickens. We are situated in the heart of the countryside, ten minutes north of Brantome, South West France. Our primary aim is to provide a safe and caring environment for retired British Police Horses, for the rest of their lives. We open to the public on certain afternoons - always a Wednesday afternoon. Other afternoons will be specified on the home page of our website. We enjoy having people to visit and it is used as part of the rehabilitation process for some of our animals. We provide a great tea and there is a lovely gift shop to browse. With your help, we can give these animals the best possible care, for the rest of their lives. "Saving just one horse will not change the world, but surely it will change the world for that one horse."

We had an excellent afternoon here during our recent stay in the Dordogne. La Grange is a beautiful setting in the countryside a few kilometres from Brantome (between Perigeux and Angouleme). The visit includes a short talk and presentation explaining the background to the facility, followed by the opportunity to meet a number of the retired police horses. It was fascinating to hear their stories and the bravery they had exhibited while working. After that the afternoon tea including home made scones and cakes with tea or coffee rounded the afternoon off superbly. My wife and our friend Jim are both Coeliacs and the gluten free scone and lemon drizzle cake were both judged to be top notch. This is a very relaxed afternoon with the opportunity to spend more time with the horses after tea as well as visiting the gift shop if you wish to support the work further.

We visited two years ago, and found it so nice - both the vineyard, the wine and the excellent and charming tour. Now, 2017 autumn, the second visit - this time with friends, and we all found it so nice again. This is a family run estate, not to big, not to "posh", but instead - with lot´s of charm and fun facts. AJ who is guiding in excellent English (you will understand why when there), is really doing a great job. With a twinkle in her eye!
We are now staying 5 months every year in Saint Emilion - and we have visited (in total over the years) around 160 vineyards. We know wine, a little.
If we divide them into 3 Groups - Family estate, Middle and Corporate owned and finally "The big dragons", this one is a: Family estate. In that Group we can highly recommend Chateau Cantenac. You will be guided by a Family Member (not some student from Bordeaux wine school, just Reading from the chateau´s notes), you will have a possibily to ask detailed questions about winemaking, you will see how an small estate is run, and you will have a guided wine tasting that is lovely - all in a very personal and warm, family setting.
And finally - wine from Saint Emilion is usually good wine! Not always but often a little overpriced. This - Chateau Cantenac - is not. This is a really Classic Saint Emilion wine, at a really, really good price. Value for Money. (and No, I´not paid to say this!)

what can I say that hasn't already been said. A very moving and very sad reminder of mankind's potential to his fellow human. My only criticism is the lack of information translated into other languages. I feel this could be improved, especially in the explanitory film. There are however some very interesting and informative short films of Youtube which give more details of this most horrific, cruel and tragic event

We visited yesterday and had a fantastic personalised private tour of the Château. The owner took us round herself and we got an excellent understanding of the wine making process and what it takes to produce an excellent Saint Emilion Grand Cru. This is a small winery so excellent if you want to ask lots of questions and learn more about the process. Highly recommended.
