We truly enjoyed this experience. Hearing about truffles and the industry was fascinating. It made us realise we knew little about truffles, even though we are enthusiastic consumers. We are now more discerning and critical when been served truffle-based dishes in restaurants. If you find yourself in the South of France, you should make time to visit Les Pastras

Loved the village and was happy we decided to visit the chateau. It's worth an hour or so visit if you have time. There's not a huge amount of artifacts to see inside, but still interesting for those who like history.

Sun-E-Bike

Sun-e-Bike offers a new way to discover the Luberon, the Alpilles, the Haut-Vaucluse and the Provencal Drôme by renting, per day, half day or stay, its 200 electric bikes spread over the villages of Bonnieux, St-Remy de Provence, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Vaison la Romaine. The carefully chosen itineraries facilitate the discovery of many sights and attractions punctuating this territory through trails and bike paths rather than main roads. Sun-E-Bike, cycling freely !

We rented bikes from Sun-e-Bikes in both Saint Remy and Bonnieux (4 days total). Maxim, one of the managers, helped us at both locations. He was great. We wanted to make some adjustments to one of their routes and he was super helpful.
The bikes were easy to use and we never ran out of battery on our full day excursions, even though we did lots of hills. Renting was super easy and we are so glad we did. There is a basket on the front of the bike for a picnic lunch (or your extra layers as you peel them off throughout the day). We usually took bread and cheese with us and stopped at wineries for a bottle of wine to have with it for lunch. They sell bottled water in case you forget your water bottle. Biking was a great way to see Provence from a different perspective. The routes are mostly on quiet roads. I was more nervous driving on the narrow roads then I was biking them. (o: A great addition to our trip.

My four kids, ages 8-14, thoroughly enjoyed this site. We were there on a Wednesday, while the French schools were still in session and we had the place to ourselves.
It was a little tricky to find, but once we did, my kids had a great time following the map through the maze and finding what they needed to. Added bonus: a tower in the middle of the maze that they got to climb up.
Afterwards, they loved the zip lines and the trampolines. My son was given a marigold plant to take with him and he took great delight in leaving it in a planter on the street of our tiny village.
Some basic candy was the reward for finishing the quest. We also purchased some water at a reasonable price and sat at the picnic tables. But yes, the bathrooms are gross, so avoid if possible. More like outhouses with sawdust to throw on top.
This is the perfect place to stop to reward kids who have been patiently following you through all the historical sites and museums in Provence. Recommend especially for ages 5-10.

Beautifully sited on the southern Luberon, this charming, historic village spreads majestically down a slope dominated by its medieval castle, built in the 11th-century. Its facade is built into the solid rock, it maintains its fortress like demeanour, but the fine Louis XIII has the friendlier air of a country mansion.
Beneath its curtain wall lies the Place des Hotes from which leads to sets of narrow streets with pretty medieval and Renaissance houses. the village clock tower, topped by an iron-work bell cage, rises from the old ramparts.
Make sure you pre-book the tours and check which days its not open.

We were fortunate to go to Loumarin on the day of their weekly market. It was very crowded which enhanced the experience.

Olive Oil Mill Bastide du Laval

Located in the heart of the regional national park, the Bastide du Laval Olive Oil Mill provides visitors with a unique opportunity to discover the landscape and traditions of Provence. Set against the cliffs from which the stone for the construction of the original village of Cadenet was quarried, the mill brings a feeling of authenticity. Far more than a simple olive oil mill, Bastide du Laval is keen to develop a friendly and educational approach to the fascinating world of olive trees, olive oil and, of course, Provence. Olive tourism serves as an alternative to traditional tourism, offering indepth knowledge of the olive oil industry and capturing the true essence of the culture surrounding the domain of the olive tree. The olive oils produced at the mill as well as the wines from the domain itself are sold in the boutique, along with a selection of local products.

We went outside of harvest season so the mill was just spotless. Everything from the car park to the machinery is all new and swanky, so keep looking if you're after the rustic French mill experience. The owner was great though, chatting a lot about...MoreThank you so much ! See you.
