Continental Greece (Greek: Στερεά Ελλάδα, Stereá Elláda; formerly Χέρσος Ἑλλάς, Chérsos Ellás), colloquially known as Roúmeli (Ρούμελη), is a traditional geographic region of Greece. In English the area is usually called Central Greece, but the equivalent Greek term (Κεντρική Ελλάδα, Kentrikí Elláda) is more rarely used.

We took the long tour to Delphi and it was certainly worth it. What a magical place! I've read from others about hiking to the stadium and I would agree that it's worth the hike for the views. We had to break off from our tour to give us enough time to do that and I'm so glad we did as it was good to see that part as well.
This is one place i'd recommend to anyone traveling to Greece for sure.

This is yet another site which I am amazed that you do not yet have a listing for!!!! It is a 10th c. Byzantine Monastery with the "remains" of "Holy Luke"., a great healer of the 10th c. which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and etc., etc. When you list it on your site, I will write a review of a visit here (which was astounding!!)
Absolutely beautiful monastery complex, definitely worth visiting if you are in the Delphi/Arachova area! The parking lot is tiny though, and fills up with tour busses. I would recommend getting there first thing in the morning if you can, the day we visited there were two busses there by 10:30, and that was going to make it less tranquil.

This ancient Greek temple is most famous for the oracle it contains, where pilgrims from all over the ancient world would come to have their fortunes told.
The archaeological site in Delphi known for the two sanctuaries , temple of apollo and Athena pronaia dating back to 4th century BC , I mean how old is that? I lost count ...
Naturally with many steps to climb the hike from the entrance will leave you breathless as you reach the top for the breathtaking view of the temple and the Mountains and the clouds above.
Of course the gods wouldn't have it any other way then to build their temples so high up just being here you can feel a sense of wonders of gods in their glory and the surrounding Mountains left me in true appreciation of the past and the history so real just hearing words like temple, oracle , gods and goddesses left me speechless and awestruck and just so thankful that we made this trip !

A museum containing some of the sculptures and artifacts excavated from the Oracle.
The museum building is physically attractive. Several of the larger exhibits (e.g., Kouroi of Delphi, Sphinx of Naxos, and Charioteer of Delphi) are quite famous, but the museum has many other treasures and is one of the most visited in Greece. There is a small museum shop and place to get coffee nearby.

The Monastery of Proussos was named after the Icon of Panagia Prousiotissa from Prousa in Minor Asia, according to a legend painted by Luke the Evangelist. It is 31 km north of Karpenisi. It was build in the 9th century (some say 12th century). According to a legend the monastery was founded during the period of the Byzantine Emperor Theophilos (829-842) who was an iconoclast ( against the use of icons). To protect the icon it was decided by supporters of the use of icons to move it to a safe place. The two persons responsible to find a place for the icon who came in Proussos decided to stay here and to build a monastery, and they were the first monks who changed their names to Dionysios and Timotheos. According to legends they decided the place due to miracles that happened due to the icon and because they could not move the icon to another place.Part of the monastery was destroyed 1587 by a fire. During the Greek war of independence it was a refuge place of various heroes such as Giorgos Karaiskakis, Markos Botsaris or Lambros Katsonis. A large part of the monastery was destroyed , including many books and documents, by fire set by German troops in the second world war.
We are travel from Volos to Prousso monastery with VolosVipTaxi.gr the ride is beautiful crossing the Mainland of Central Greece. Traditional village and amazing landscape. We arrive after 2.1/2 hours in the most beautiful and amazing monastery Prousou. The buildings are build on the end off the cliff. The church is build in the rock of the mountain and that make the place unique. I highly recommend to visit Prousou & Karpenisi the small city with the ski center.

The newly-rebuilt museum is a real gem, and the star attraction of this rather dreary modern town with a long and fascinating history. Little remains of the Mycenaean palace but the museum displays jewellery and other exquisite objects revealing the sophistication of the bronze-age rulers. Each successive period is represented by interesting and well-displayed pieces, well explained in informative labels.

The place where the bridge is built, is the narrowest point of the channel, and the water current can reach the speed of 15km (9 miles) per hour! It is really interesting to watch the reversion of flow direction that happens about every 6 hours. The exact time of reversion is determined by the position of the moon.
What's interesting about an old fashioned bridge you might ask? Well there are two things to be honest. Maybe three. Yes, three. The third one is - it has an art gallery underneath it. Two - the water current changes underneath it every few hours during the day - the current pulls into one direction at a high speed, and then into the other direction. Interesting - right? One - it opens each night, and people both local and not gather to look at the boats using the opportunity to go through. All sorts of boats, small, big, medium. Interesting place. The time in which the bridge will be open is updated daily and displayed at both ends of the bridge. It's less convenient when you forget about it and head for a night out in the city, and then either on the way in or out the bridge is open, and you're forced to watch the boat "parade" ;)

The Archaeological Museum of Eretria is very easy to find, along the road running past Eretria, a lot of parking space. Very good for getting acquainted with local history. Strangely, captions in Greek and French only, no English. EU language policy after Brexit?
